I love the colour schemes in both Shenmue 1 and 2 feel quite distinct and have a really welcoming and calming vibe. Uses lots of browns and blues, without looking too drab.

Shenmue 2 by comparison, more reds and browns than blues and grey in general.
>>
I wanted to at least finish the first game at some point but I just don't have to attention span.

It's not for everyone. I love just walking around the town and talking to people, or trying out different dialogue options etc but I can see why some people don't like it.
It's almost meditative in some ways when you have down time and go to train or play games.

Yakuza mogs this slop

Your piece of shit chinkmafia simulators wouldn't exist were it not for Shenmue. Wash your whore mouth before trying to diss these games.

Shenmue 3>Bloodstained
>>
Me? Well...
>>

it's a ludiciously short game if you know where you're going
of course, not knowing where to go and having to ask people about it is kinda the point of the game
>>

Both were terrible. I want my $2000 back from the Shenmue 3 kickstarter. Never been more disappointed in my life.

shenmue 1 is the comfiest game of all time, if only shenmue 2 wasnt such a slog in kowloon. the ending is incredible tho.

>>12164730
I much prefer 1, but 2 nails the grimy chinese aesthetic.
>>
>>12164671
I love the world building and the aesthetics of this game. It's so perfect.
>>

i love the daily semi-sim life in that little district while playing detective.
>>
>Shenhua in Shenmue 2:oh yeah i live in an isolated village in rural china ,we know nothing about the outside world
>Shenmue 3: fucking arcade in 1986 rural China

Shenmue killed the Dreamcast.
>>
>>12167618
Shenmue was the only reason to buy a Dreamcast. Then we waited forever for 3 and Sega said fuck it and made Yakuza which is still great but does lack the soul

Shenmue 3 villages felt like theme parks pretending to be villages. It was really weird.

Shenmue 2 is my favorite game of all time BECAUSE of Kowloon. Such a dense, detail-rich and beautiful location and its where all the best moments in the story happen. Being able to go inside thousands of apartment rooms is such an insane tech flex too, haven't seen anything like that since and they did it in 2001. I like the Hong Kong bit a lot as well but Kowloon really makes the game for me.

Actually Piracy killed the Dreamcast. Shenmue actually sold well enough for a sequel. However the sequel flopped on the Xbox.

they should've published a DK Eyewitness book on the Shenmue series. I feel like a lot of its fans grew up on those books.

there is nothing in those dreary rooms. its a complete cacophonous snore. kowloon should've been a lot shorter with much less QTEs. That fight to the rooftop was a mess as well. It was still a cool place to explore, but it was like slogging through puke. i guess thats why the final act is so memorable.

Having a thousand empty squares you have no reason to ever visit and which feature absolutely nothing of note with RNG tables and chairs taken out of a pool isn't as huge a deal as you make it out to be
