Who here remembers this site? It was a goldmine for mods.
>>
vaguely. logo looks familiar but i dont think i used the site.
>break.com
that was a daily visit for me in the mid 2000s though
>>
yep i used it all the time.

I'm fairly sure moddb was also around so I used that for mods.
However in the pre-steam era I used FileFront for game updates and and I had every reason to do so - these were the wild years when you could download a balance/bugfix patch for like CoD 1 because MP servers demanded it and it would come with free multiplayer maps and shit.

all these sites like rapidshare etc have melded together in my brain. im assuming this was the user experience

Yeah it was terrible
>watch ad before link
>something breaks
>need to watch ad again
>capped at 1Mb/s unless you buy Gold Premium(tm)
>something breaks during download
>refuses to resume
Haha I just described the current state of free hosting so nothing changed really.

Sounds about right. I think FileFront had less restrictive filesize limits than others, but maybe I'm misremembering it.

Came here to say this, download sites were a fucking pain and aside from a load of shit becoming lost, I'm glad that shit got replaced with better sites and catbox.moe

This shit is why I got into torrenting in the mid 00s.
>>
I remember it now but it means nothing to me. That type of website was a dime a dozen and I just wanted to get the shit I needed and leave.

Filefront (and the sister site Gamefront.)
There was also Fileplanet which always seemed to be faster to me. Filefront still exists today however, but only as Gamefront.

Where are you still seeing this? Encountering sites like that is extremely rare for me, pretty much everything I want to download is hosted by gofile, pixeldrain, vikingfile etc and it's all fast with no ads or waiting.

The day GameFront shut down was a black day for Star Wars: Empire at War modding. Glad to see that the community has rebounded in the following decades and is still going.

Jedi Academy mods were so insane they only rivaled by Doom's.
