Can we have a thread about our childhood gems? Games that we've played to death, but are largely forgotten now. Either because they weren't all that known or all that good (but you can forgive a lot as a kid).
I will post some to get the discussion going.

dungeon crawler with simultaneous 2-player option and early experiments in conversation systems
More like a teenage gem, but I played Shadowbane pretty actively for about a year. It was my first exposure to an older style MMO, what with a very detailed character creator, lots of branching class options, drop inventory on death, and most of the world being a giant sandbox for guilds to build strongholds in and attack each other.
Midwinter. An open world game where you wage guerilla warfare against an invading army during a nuclear winter. It came with a novel-sized manual which I would sometimes bring with me on family holidays. Still need to go back and beat it.

I remember really liking this but I genuinely can't tap back into whatever headspace I was in when I did. Other shitty childhood games I can at least kind of understand what I saw in them but this one is a mystery to me.
>>12167770My childhood friend was obsessed with the putting level in Rugrats: Search for Reptar. We'd take turns trying to get the best score and exploring the level
>>12165340One of the first games I got was SimAnt for Windows. Not the best game from Maxis, but I enjoyed it.
>>12165340Mario Kart 64the camera is so bad when you're drifting and i could have sworn when i was a stupid little kid that it was all in 3d but it's 2d spirits for a lot of stuff including the racers. I think the snes game has aged better.
>>12167805Wow i had forgotten completely about this. I played this over at my cousin's house when i was like 7 or 8 years old. I remember generally being way more facinated with spyro and tekken though.
this seems to be the least discussed nes light gun game but its the one i played the most (although i only had duck hunt besides it)
>>12167805The putting level is the only thing I remember about that game. My friends little brother rented it once and all we mostly did was play minigolf.
>>12167827why did you post DS?
>>12168051blame google images. i didn't screencap when i played mario kart 64 earlier this year and just pulled off google.
>>12165340Street Surfer on the C64. A little janky, and once you figure it all out you can play indefinitely. Combine with a nice soundtrack that adjusts its tempo to match your speed, and it's a really comfy experience. When I'd have a bad day at school or whatever and need to relax and chill out, I'd load up Street Surfer and get into the zone for an hour or two and it'd all fade away into unimportance as I zoomed down that endless road. One time I kept my C64 on for what must have been a couple of days at least, exploiting the fact that you can park safely next to the recycle centers to keep my guy safe while I was away, so I could find out if the counter would roll over at 100k points. It didn't, but it was fun getting there.
