The problem is that Nintendo had shit distribution outside of NA and western Europe. PlayStation sold like hotcakes because Sony sold into untapped markets, like the Middle East. There are tons of Saudis, for example, who have fond memories of PlayStation and fuckin Pepsiman. Nintendo was completely absent from the Middle East until pretty. much the Wii U era, I believe.
