Why was early Gauntlet so fucking brutal?
>>12167972Gamers were more skilled back then.
To make more money
>>12167972Quarter-munching design.>inb4 that wasn't a thing Gauntlet gradually drains your life. Even if you don't get hit, you're gonna die and have to put in another quarter.
>>12167998It's possible to rack up enough health in Gauntlet to play indefinitely if you know what you're doing, it involves exploiting a memory limit in a register that handles food spawn. Apparently if your score is high enough it will reset food spawn to the most abundant setting. Back in the 80s highly skilled players would amass an enormous amount of health, leave the game running after an arcade closed at night, and then come back the next day and resume their game.
>>12167972Tfw I wanted to play Gauntlet 2 multiplayer, but none of my friends liked it and/or sucked at it. Fucking plebs.
>>12167998>Quarter-munching design.>I think players back then were retarded >even though modern players spent more on gachaOkay zoomer
>>12167972it just kind of sucked. now, dark legacy, that was a good game (sip)
>>12168075You actually need to git gud enough at Gauntlet to build health instead of draining yourself dry if you ever want to beat the NES version. You can't quarter in, so it's the only way to get enough health to survive all 100 levels.
>>12168195The original Gauntlet is awesome. Go back to /v/ and when you get there hang a left and keep going until you get to Reddit.
>>12167998They literally said it was a way to get more quarters out of players
>>12168173>I think players back then were retardedwho are you quoting
>>12168173Players were just as retarded then as they are now. There are just a lot more players now.
>>12168173At leach gacha players are buying new characters 8nstra of paying to play the fucking game
