Not a bad game by any means, combat is fun, I like the weapons you can grab from the environment, it's got cool design, but overall it doesn't feel like there's all that much going on. I don't know if I like warping between the two worlds: sometimes I think it's cool, other times it's bothersome.

I'm getting burnt out on the puzzles, specifically the cathedral puzzles with the blocks...so lame. They're not particularly challenging, but the controls are a little clunky and it's just tedious sliding them into place...especially when they're back to back. How does Soul Reaver II compare in your opinion?

It's block puzzles great grandfather. But aside from this it's a better oot

i think you either dig the setting/story/characters or you don't. I still think the seamless warping between the physical and spectral world is the coolest thing ever done, especially for something as underpowered as a ps1.

as for your SR2 question it's much more linear and straight forward and dumbed down, for better or worse (worse as far as I am concerned). And defiance is even more streamlined and dumbed down.

are you me? I'm playing it for the first time these days too, just beated the cathedral and dropping the game has been on my mind more than once. It's boring and confusing. One of the best stories in videogames, according to fans? yeah right, a new brief scene with the characters after a dungeon and hours of block puzzles doesn't seem worth it

It’s pretty good. But a little overhyped. Not better than OOT like another poster said. It’s mostly combat based with light platforming and block puzzles. The combat and story is the best part. I played on PS1 first and then Dreamcast on a replay and was impressed how much better the DC version looked and ran.

It's a cool game but the block puzzles are insomnia-curing. What the fuck were they thinking. All of the development time they could've spent improving the game, they spent adding a million block puzzles.
>>
Could’ve been perfect with better puzzles, pacing, and camera. Raziel is an interesting and cool character. The story is awesome. Great ambience.

You're exaggerating how many block puzzles there are. Then again, I'm 34, so maybe it's not that big of a deal for me...I guess it's fair since I absolutely hate the braindead modern puzzle design, which is just "turn on your batman vision mode and let us tell you what to do and where to find literally everything".
>>
The block puzzles are the only thing I don't like about the game but not because they're tedious or boring or anything, but because they don't really fit the vibe for me. They make an otherwise very interesting world seem a bit too game-y if that makes sense. I like it when the puzzles make sense within the gothic postapocalyptic medieval world.

They're not exaggerating. There really is too much playtime dedicated to these puzzles.
