They could make a modern version of this and it would be a huge hit.

Shit like this must look like a phonograph to generation alpha or even some of gen z. We are so far removed from this as a culture at this point.
I remember the spy hunter revival in 2001 where they tried to make spy hunter epic and dark and it just didn’t work. It lives and dies by its over-the-top 80s action movie aesthetic. Will always love the art and aesthetics for the original spy hunter.
I think the only way spy hunter comes back is as a budget rogue like game.

Keep the vehicular combat, keep the 80s action aesthetic but make it a little more futuristic with more dynamic gameplay like more weapons and more cars.

The 2001 spyhunter is a great game

The sit down cab for that was awsome. The loud music for it had everyone standinng around watching the play one of those games that without the controls is just not the same

It would be you competing with other cars for loot boxes.

They are the people who make video games and they don't think it would be a hit otherwise they would actually make it.

Has them ever made a video game?

But surely a child on the 4chin knows better than they do.

Arcade cabinets are still being used in places like Dave and Busters. So cabinets aren't the issue.

Kids are pretty adaptable. They will play whatever game is in front of them as long as it's fun. You just gotta keep them away from distractions like their phone.

I took my young nephew to a retro arcade and we had a great time playing X-Men arcade from the 90s. The only thing I had to do was tell him that taking out of his phone wasn't allowed. No pictures either. Just focus on playing and having fun with the arcades.

It’s an okay to mediocre game that was banking on spy hunter nostalgia. It’s been 24 years though, I can’t really speak about its quality at this point. It’s certainly better than the far worse revival they made 5 years later as a tie in game to a movie that (thankfully) got cancelled.

I suppose, aside from the little throwback pac-man machines, nothing has that “look” in Dave and busters. Last time I went to D&B they had a ludicrously oversized Flappy Bird machine and Guitar Hero 3. It was grim. I suppose spy hunter 83 cab is still similar enough to something like those fast and the furious racing cabs.

kids still grow up playing with very basic shit that's not too far removed from early electronic games

The reason these cabinets went out of style was because "joystick and button" games could now be played at home. You could buy a cheap arcade stick and connect to your console or PC. So there really wasn't a point anymore to 1980s style cabinets. Outside of fighting games and maybe a few Beat Em ups, the rest of them died out in the 90s. Arcade machines evolved into large custom deluxe cabinets with custom constols that couldn't be replicated at home.
