One of the devs who actually loves Turok wanted to do another update with some more small fixes and QoL stuff over 100 new scripting and nodding additions and Nightdive said "were done with Turok. No more updates" and so he worked on it entirely on his own, unpaid in his free time and then he went to those Jews at ND and came up with a bait reason to have an update "oh hey don't you want to put the Atari logo in the game boot up cus ND is owned and published by Atari now? Oh also do you own the trademark and rights to have the Acclaim logo? You'll need to do an update to do both those things". Which they agreed both of those things should be done. Hello /vr/, I got a problem with a Wolf3D mod I have been trying to figure out. I am trying to extract the color palette from a mod but I have no idea how to do that. This is the mod I am talking about https://www.moddb.com/downloads/wolfenstein-3d-30th-anniversary-edition
The guy who made it seemed to have messed with the palette so when ever you try to extract any of the mods textures or sprites, they come out looking like pic related.
I did find someone online saying they managed to extract the palette with a Hex editor on the mods exe, but I honestly do not know where I would begin.

Download the Windows 64 version. Unzip it wherever you want. Copy and paste your command prompt (cmd) thing into whatever directory you unzipped ericwtools. Copy and paste whichever .bsp (a Quake map file, I don't mean to insult you if you know that) that you want to take a look at. Run cmd, and run this:

bsputil --decompile mapname.bsp

And bsputil will spit out a .map file you can open in Trenchbroom. Since you won't have the exact same texture wads, to make the map look legible, you take the tool TexMex

Drag and drop the bsp file that you are interested in, then TexMex displays all the textures used. File>Save As>mapname.wad

So what you should have now are a decompiled .map file of the bsp you're interested in, and a wad file of all the textures of the bsp you're interested in. Add the wad in TB like you would any other texture wad, and voila. You now have the keys to your favorite maps, or at the very least, a map you're interested in. Pic related is Tronyn's map from mapjam6, decompiled and ready for dissection in case I wanted to see how something was done.

Ironwail has a short, useful but not very reliable way of checking things in a pinch. r_showfields 1 shows the bounding boxes and key values of entities, triggers, etc. Problem is some entities cut off their key values because it's a long list, and you can't print these key values to the console so you need to rely on screenshots. As I said, it's useful in a pinch if you want to try and see how something works.

Ok quick review based on the first level.
> Graphics
Looks great, both technically and aesthetically. Love the outdoor vs indoor monsters and their projectiles
> Music
I get that they went for the modern shooter thing but honestly pretty generic and feels too short, its very clear when it ends and when it begins which is not true for classic doom music.
> Plot
It's really cool that they went through all the effort to make cutscenes, dialogues etc.
> Gameplay
The first level is already great. "Tutorial" hints are done very well and there's basically no boring bullshit to get through before action starts and when playing on hard it can totally fuck you up.
Weapons are modern which I'm not a fan of and again I get that that's kinda the point but I really love their take on super shotgun and I wish they made some kind of new versions of classic doom weapons instead of going for basic bitch uzi and spas.

It features auto saves which honestly is fucking great. Playing entire levels with no saving is too autistic for me but also I tend to overuse quick saves so this is EXACTLY what I need. I wish auto saves were present in all the other doom games tbqh.

So far I'm excited to play more and totally recommend it.

Freedoom's whole point is to be a drop-in replacement, It's even demo compatible as far as I can tell, so they would be functionally identical.
BTSX includes all the Doom 2 sprites out of necessity, because it drastically changes the palette.
Mods can treat id/FD differently, though. Hideous Destructor does.

Idk if anyone can help me, but I'm currently playing System Shock 2 and got to The Brain of the Many and I think my game soft locked? I kill the nodes each time and in one of my daves I even cleared out all the enemies save for the infinite spawning rumblers. Played through the first map of Flesh Connection, titled Adventures of Captain Shitass.
Some fairly impressive mapping, the style isn't quite full on "modern baroque" e.g. evi but it's definitely detailed.
Had to retry the last fight a few times, it's got some chaingunners, knights, and arachnotrons. Monster count is 140 but like 30 of those are lost souls in a teleporter trap secret.

This may be a stretch but I decided to include this tag just because the wad is clearly going for the winter theme and the modern shooter feel. It's not gimmicky in a sense that it has some crazy gameplay feature you're supposed to use or thousands of enemies per map or anything like that.

The only things you might enjoy are the in-game mods and levels menus. And even then, there's the Simple Quake Launcher, you can make shortcuts yourself, etc. For me I really enjoy having all the Quake mods and maps in Quake's font. Otherwise? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The one thing you would need Ironwail for, I think, is that Mjolnir was specifically targeting Ironwail. However, Mjolnir will never be finished. It's two episodes, one good and one massively epic, and they're worth a playthrough, but if that doesn't whet your appetite then don't worry about it.

Yeah, ok, that's like a modern gamepad. If you find that thing comfortable to interact with and you can use it like you can other modern gamepads, it should be quite playable for games like Doom, Wolf, Quake, Duke, etc.

The lack of mouse input would be hindering for higher level play, just because that quick and smooth precision really does help a lot, but not having that isn't crippling for the base game. I don't know if that thing has gyro input, but if it does, some people say that's basically as good as mouse input, so if it does consider trying that out.

Generally, just simply try out mapsets and games on maybe medium settings and feel them out, raise or lower the difficulty as you find necessary.

I think TNT mostly does difficulty through resource starvation, I remember map14 being particularly annoying to max because one has to play carefully for much of it and any kind of concentration loss or attempt to push ahead led to death, not to mention knowing exactly what to do with the environment hazards (crushers, high damage floors). Also 20, 21, and 27, the incredibly long maps where you can still die easily right at the end if you are not careful/patient/lucky (especially the last part of 27 if you want 100% kills).

Depends on what you'd wanna do. It's prolly a million times easier to make maps for one of the PSX Doom TCs for JizzyDoom than it would be to try to pack that shit into an actual PSX/emulator, particularly given some of the hard limits, like the hard memory bottleneck limiting texture and monster variety.
