Can you choose to like a game? Often times, our idea of a game far exceeds the experience of actually playing it. For example, ever since I was a kid, Mega Man was very cool to me. I'd watch videos, read game guides, and draw the bosses in my notebook. But when I'd load the game up in an emulator, I stopped having fun around 5-10 minutes later. I really want to like Mega Man, but I must admit I dislike playing Mega Man...
Ask yourself why you aren't having fun and if the reason isn't something you can overcome then find other games you do like. You say you were enthusiastic about stuff in the game, what stops you from enjoying it while playing?
>>12219730Well maybe you like Mega Man as a concept and not as the actual game? I like Rock N Roll racing because I think it's cool it's got cars guns and explosions but I also grew up with rc cars so the isometric perspective doesn't bother me and I enjoy racing games. I dunno maybe you just didn't grow up with many platformers? You like the setting and characters but get cold feet when playing the game for real so it's gotta be a gameplay issue for you.
>>12219730"Liking" things just for reasons of identity is very common; it's called performativity. Not to mention common around /vr/ lmaoAnyway what people usually don't get about it is that there's no dishonesty involved necessarily as we as a species are rigged to deceive ourselves first and foremost, and also that the "performance" is also not necessarily for the benefit of anybody other than the performer himself. In short, you may enjoy liking things without necessarily enjoying the things themselves.
>>12219730It's possible to enjoy things such as artworks, concepts, music etc. from a game, but not the gameplay itself. However, just because it is technically a reasonable possibility, it doesn't mean you aren't a massive fucking faggot poser.
>>12219730Most games don't deliver on the fantasy that they're selling. The worst offender for this IMO is Pokemon.
>>12219730Maybe you would enjoy the Mega Man X games more, or Battle Network.
>>12219730This is the whole idea behind modding games and making romhacks.
>>12219730I was like this as a teen as I grew out of playing video games and got more into the social culture. People are like this with a lot of stuff, it's not a knock against you
>>12219730Can you choose not to post here?
