The thing is, most Redneck Rampage maps feel like an amateur's work. That wouldn't necessarily be a problem for a free game, but when you consider how profoundly and comprehensively Duke Nukem 3D showcased the technical aspects of the engine, and how it substantially pushed 3D gaming forward as an artform, it just leaves RR looking very small and subpar. Not every level of RR is a drastic dud, some are decent. But it lacks consistent quality or a real sense of mastery. Redneck Rampage does not belong in the holy trinity, but it is worth experiencing, so you can see its shortcomings and strengths.

disappointing inventory (basically only jump boots and portable medkit)good level design, witty secrets, varied weapons (dynamite actually requires skill and experience, my fav is the aerosol can)not really difficult but creeping around corners is meh and quite tedious, many enemies are bullet sponges while the cultists...I play with Raze using the upscale pack, the hq sound pack and the voxel pack, looks nice. although the dynamite behaviour isn't faithful to the original gameiirc one of the ports (Fresh supply?) has customisation options to make the hitscanners more fair>>12230396pitchfork start
