It's a pretty based game if you ask meSome mechanics are even blatantly superior to mainline FF games like enemies changing sprites with damage, using weapons to solve puzzles and super mario world style world map instead of regular rpg world maps. The music is great as well.

The sheer amount of enemies they throw at even as early as the earth crystal temple is mind numbing. I did a playthrough of it last year as part of a big FF marathon and I was exhausted by the end of it.

>>12587695It's basically a "Beginner's RPG" (and was marketed that way) with simplified mechanics and some Zelda style puzzles too. It's not bad but there's not much in way of the plot or characters (this is a letdown coming off FFIV) and it can get very repetitive. It has some great non-standard FF music though.
