>save states go against the "rules" of retro gaming>but passwords to skip to any level you want is perfectly acceptable and "pure">comfy magazine guides that just tell you exactly where to go somehow represents acceptable gaming because Nintendo Power was cozy>but school yard kids giving you the same tips constitute cheating and you didn't technically beat the game.>power ups that make your weapon ultra powerful somehow represent the pure way to play instead of keeping the default weapons which is technically the canonical way to win.If the Japanese could have added save states back then, they would have, do you doubt that they ever would? There was no such thing as purity back then and save states are acceptable with no loss of morality, and no loss of clout.
>>12588206The rules of retro gaming are doing whatever the fuck I want. I dont care if you dont think I beat the game.

as usual OP is a fag who thinks his opinion is so important it warrants its own thread when there is already a thread on the subject >>12586747
>>12588228No.
>>12588206Passwords are earnt by reaching that far, thus is not cheating.A guide/magazine was intended for when you beat the game, thus not cheating.School yard tips are just word of mouth, thus not cheating.Power ups are an intended game mechanic, thus not cheating.Anything else, bot-kun?
>>12588246he is such a bad shitposter he needs to copy someone else shit thread
My example is DKC2.They give you one free save per world. They easily could've let you save anywhere. You have 2-4 levels then a boss fight. You lose your last life at the boss? You play those 2-4 levels again. If you savestate this game it becomes trivially easy, but the save mechanism is a core part of the game. You genuinely didn't beat it with savestates or infinite lives.
>>12588206If you play for your own enjoyment instead of clout, you're free to spam savestates and rewind. You do play for your own enjoyment, right, anon...?
>>12588314I'm the guy above you. I play for my own enjoyment but what's the enjoyment in cheating yourself out of the core challenge of games?Savestaters, IMO, are the ones who don't do it for their enjoyment. They just want to be able to tell people that they cleared a game.
>>12588228lol, no.
>>12588340And who the fuck are you and why does it matter if you think someone didn't beat the game?
>>12588352NTA, but you should want to beat it for yourself. You play games to overcome the challenges in them, that's what the games are. The challenges you encounter ARE the game. If you use savestates I have to assume you don't actually like games and just want to say you beat the game, too.
We didn't need another cope thread for save scumming homosexuals, though I must admit I'm enjoying all the seethe.
>>12588206You didn't beat the game if you skip ahead with passwords either, the point of a password is to save your place when you're done or to practice certain sections of a game with low stakes so you can beat it more easily when you do a full run. You can't seriously be equating what's effectively player unlocked level select to am external tool that resets the game to a point of your choosing. Strategy guides also don't let you just erase any fuck up with the press of a button, you still have to be good enough at the game to execute the fucking strategy. How is this even a debate, you are a fucking loser if you rely on save states.
I just went back to the 1st level, farmed banana coins, so whenever i entered a new world all I would have to do was make it to either Wrinkly Kong or Funky's Flights, then I could fly back and save in word 1 for free. It was kinda fun being forced to optimize the 1st level for lives and stuff. Super Mario World's Top Secret Area also comes to mind

>>12588438we don't give a single shit about your philosophy anon. buy a blog i ain't reading all that + you gay hahahaha
>>12588228If you truly didn't care you wouldn't had posted that. But also wanna act tough in front of me, kid? I'll knock your blocks out if you yap about using save states in my presence. Good luck reloading your state in real life punk....
>>12588206> You used save states you cheated!!>Watches a pro playing it with 1cc>To beat the game you just cheese it using some stupid method
>>12588461No, if you didn't beat it first time round with pure skill and reactions, you didn't beat the game. Simple
I used to think it didn't matter and people can play with their electronic toys however they please, but I find myself mentally adding asterisks whenever certain games come up that I "beat" by being a psychotic retard with save states years ago.
>>12591278Braindead mindset given the design of these older games.
