It expects absolute precision from you but has slippery physics and requires momentum for jumps while simultaneously throwing enemies and obstacles at you that you must know beforehand or you won't have enough time to react, especially since it takes a while to decelerateNot to mention the game only gives you 5 lives on game over or even loading game, and you can only save every few levels, checkpoints are sparse and often require being in a specific position or you miss the checkpoint, loading from checkpoint only starts you as mini Mario, and you don't even get big Mario after getting hit with a power-up like in SMB3, you go immediately to useless mini Mario. It's not like it's so impossibly hard that you could never beat it if you really try, but something about it induces stress and frustration unlike any other game I can think of.
>>12588879Same, I just started it recently and literally spent 3 hours last night on Lemmy's Castle, and it would have been way longer if I didn't figure out you could resave at previous Ghost HousesI think part of it is that holding down run constantly with one part of your while using another part of your thumb to do accurate analog jump timings is incredibly awkward. Also between acceleration and deceleration and two different walk/run speeds, it just makes it really hard to do precise jumps unless you just know the entire physics like second nature after many dozens if not hundreds of hours of play
>>12588879My issue isn't with the physics, it's with how if you just play the game straight through without autistically secret hunting you only get to experience like 30% of it.
The only level I remember being particularly difficult in SMW was Tubular, everything else I was able to beat without too much stress, even as an elementary school kid.Honestly, Mario games from the Wii onward tend to have higher difficulty ceilings than SMB, SMB2USA, SMB3, SMW, SML, SML2, and SM64 (I never 100%ed Sunshine), like some of the extra levels in Wonder, especially the final one, were MANY times harder than anything in those games. While the doing simple clears is probably about the same difficulty, or maybe even a little easier, than retro Mario games, the bonus content tends to be much harder.

>>12588879We were beating this game as 10 year olds
>>12588879>Using saves>Using powerups/yoshiYou didn't beat the game.
>>12588996In-game saves or save states?Obviously to the latter, nothing wrong with the former though
>>12588879I'm glad to see others finally calling out the terrible physics in this game. SNES seemed to have a lot of trouble with physics, must be that dog slow CPU.
>>12588879This thread was posted on /v/ and is intentional bait.
>>12589074This game has the best physics of any Mega Man and it's a SNES game, what is your rebuttal?
>>12588935Nonsense, they have better controls, unlimited lives, save after every level, and you can get hit multiple times unlike SMW where even a powerup sends you straight to mini Mario after a hit
>>12588879I beat this game without losing a life when I was 10.
>>12589214Maybe using blue yoshi and warp zones after 1000 hours, autismo
>>12588879>but has slippery physicsNo it doesn't. This is the best and easiest controlling game in the series. You just really suck.
>>12588996>he didnt unlock soda lakeLOL
Reposting from an old thread because it's relevant:I finally made my gf, a gen Z who grew up on ps1 and ps2, play Super Mario World, I chose World because I deem it the easier of the retro Mario games to get into.Well, she was completely crushed by it and got super frustrated. She was able to barely make it through Yoshi's Island 2 but starting from YI3 she wasn't able to beat ANY level, I also keep reminding her to use the run button to jump longer but I don't know, she can't grasp it.I keep beating levels (we were playing 2 player mode) and by the time she tried Donut Plains 3 she gave up.I then gave her my 3ds and she played New SMB2 and had a much easier time with it, started beating levels and got to the first castle all on her own. She's also not bad at video games but admittedly her expertise is puzzle games like Puyo Puyo, Dr Mario and Tetris. She also plays some survival horror games and FPSs, but I guess 2D action/platformer just isn't on her system.Still, it made me realize how SMW is only "easy" for those of us who played lots of Mario and platformers in general. The New series really was made with less skilled/experienced players in mind
>>12589275Uhh, OK. Go to Donut Secret 2 and tell me this game isn't slippery, go on, I'm waiting.
>>12589393Mario is just hard as fuck due to slippery physics. I had no issue with DKC or 100%ing the Crash trilogy
>>12589393I feel like people who didn't grow up on old games have trouble with them. It's a skill best acquired during childhood, like language.
>>12589202>even a powerup sends you straight to mini Mario after a hitHave you actually played the game? While yes, you get sent back to regular Mario, most of the time you will have a reserve powerup, which means that a lot of the time, you will be able to immediately power back up to at least Super, if not Cape or Fire.
>>12589536not so fast...Firstly, you have to have the powerup in reserve.Secondly, it oftentimes gets stuck inside terrain as it instantly falls down without your input when you get hit.Thirdly, a lot of times frantically rushing to that dropping powerup causes you to be even worse off as you get damage and now you have to go back to checkpoint instead of just being mini Mario.
>>12589458Not really true, I didn't play almost a single 2D game (aside from like Pokemon and the occasional handheld game, although I do think I beat SMB1 Deluxe on GBC) until Sonic's Ultimate Genesis collection on PS3 when I was a teenager, and I still picked them up very quickly, and have beat tons of old-school platformers, action games, shmups, etc. I was also terrible at videogames as a kid, but now I regularly go for 1CCs and beat games on max difficulty. Mario was and still is hard as fuck though, he's just so hard to control.
i dont think i beat this as a kid but i think i got really far
>>12589420Skill issue.
>>12589271Nope. The game is just easy. Probably didn't have more than 40 hours in it before I was able to no-miss the game. Never did a 96 goals without dying, but I could probably do it with relative ease these days. I could have done a 96 goal without a game over when I was 10, because even then I knew how to farm 1ups, not even counting how many you accrue easily through normal gameplay.
>>12588879I used to play it as a kid everyday and beat it all the time lmaoYou people are a joke
>>12589770Post clears shitter
>>12588879Retard.
>>12588879This is a game designed for children
>>12589790You can literally just go in and out of the same level over and over farming infinite 1ups.
>>12588879Problems, zoomer?
>>12589393>Still, it made me realize how SMW is only "easy" for those of us who played lots of Mario and platformers in general.I remember when the SNES and SMW came out.It took me a good week of play before I fully got out of the habit of trying to press A to jump, and doing the smaller spin.
>>12591865Yeah this is the strangest schizo campaign so far... I've literally never heard anyone say that SMW was too hard to play or to figure out.
