Give it a short cooldown after you fire it.

Make it 1-shot every enemy and boss in the game, and have infinite ammo. And if you use it even once, you can't fight the final boss and Wily escapes in a bad end.

If you know the reset trick, it literally has infinite ammo. Thats like saying to nerf the elec shot without removing the pause trick.

Why would you nerf it? You already can't fire it while moving, which makes it effectively useless when actually trying to play the game well. Nerfing it would just make the game harder for retarded casuals.

It loses its ability to travel through walls/objects, getting embedded into the wall/target instead. You're also only allowed to have only one blade on screen at a time.

"Metal Blades can no longer be thrown straight up or straight down and are thrown at a less steeper angle when aimed diagonally. The blades deal much less damage and has a maximum of 2 uses per bar of weapon energy."
You could take all that without the weapon energy increase. It also rebalances the other weapons.
