like most LJN games this has a rather notorious reputation, although instead of Atlus they recruited Westone (the Wonder Boy guys) to develop it. also remember that it's based on the horrible Jaws movie sequel from 1987, not the original film.
>>12589060It's technically not a bad game, just very tedious and extremely repetitive.
>>12589065Small ROM, they couldn't do much with it. Westone tried but 64k isn't a lot of space.
>>12589060It's basically three very short minigames, once you know what to do there's about 10-15 minutes total gameplay in here.
>>12589080>>12589060Jaws was a pretty early NES release from '87, remember that expectations for NES games were not that high then. The really polished stuff hadn't come along yet and people were still used to Colecovision-tier games. So for its time it was acceptable.
>>12589060Spielberg also had nothing to do with the '87 movie.
Jaws the Revenge isn't that bad for a mindless sharksploitation flick. It's a lot better than Jaws 3, and the director did two of my favorite 70s kinos: White Lightning and The Taking of Pelham
>>12589170not at all. it was normal 80s practice to make 25 sequels to horror/camp movies most of which sucked ass.
>>12589080>Small ROM, they couldn't do much with it. Westone tried but 64k isn't a lot of space.CNROM was fine for an '87 release.
>>12589060LJN were the first American publisher to put out NES games. Like Akklaim they seem to have been buddies with NOA.
>>12589080How many LJN games can you attribute their anal quality to Jewing the devs on ROM size + dev time? We know that Tramiel took exactly that approach with Jaguar devs and… well, we all know how that project went.…Wait a minute. Oh no, it can’t be. Let me check the Early Life>…DAMN IT, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. It all makes perfect sense now.>Every. Single. Time.
>>12589268>How many LJN games can you attribute their anal quality to Jewing the devs on ROM size + dev time?LJN put out 25 NES games. The earlier ones were all CNROM/UNROM which limited what the developers could do. Later games were mostly MMC1 but they bought Acclaim's clone version since it cost less than a real Nintendo one. Yes they were huge penny pinchers.
>>12589287as anon said, Jaws being CNROM was ok because of how early it came out. by 89 they were just being cheap for the sake of it.
This game is proof that people will like anything as long as it has grinding and seeing a number slowly go up. You'll probably like Dragon Quest a lot more though.
>>12589296they refused to use actual mappers until Acclaim's clone version became available
>>12589060Should have let you play as the Shark. Just go around eating people and small fishavoid the Shark Hunters
>>12589060Doesn't seem to have been a big seller, even with it being early and the selection of NES games being small at that point.
