Thoughts on this game?
>>
i pirated the gog version like 12 years ago on a whim, played for an hour, thought
>this game is actually pretty cool, gonna have to play it properly when i have time
then never came back to it
one day...
>>

it's kind of overated but I guess that's a reflection of the genre not having many serious adult games that aren't excessively whimsical.
>>
>>12589443
I loved it

The creepy circus was amazing, wish more games have stuff like that
>>

It's great! Some cheesy moments and voice acting but an otherwise really compelling story. It's definitely on the easy side of things, which is good or bad depending on how you feel about adventure game puzzles. I beat it only needing a guide once, there's no egregious moon logic or game over states. I also think if you're expecting it to be a real scary horror game you might be disappointed since it loses a lot of its horror vibes in the later chapters.

late to that game, played it a few years ago,
very memorable and comfy,
excellent voice acting, good music.

go play it now.

It's alright. Puzzles were ok but not great. A lot of them of the survival horror variety where they're moderately logical to solve but their existence don't make much sense, but it's justified by the MC likely imagining or hallucinating everything.

The only place I was stuck on for a while was the second chapter, and that mostly because of pixel hunting. And I could have done without the action sequences and the maze.

Btw what was up with the names of the drug, disease and company all having four capital letters (HOPE, DNAV and MERCy)? I was half expecting them to be part of some puzzle later in the game, or if they were I missed it.

Probably my favorite adventure game, I love the whole vibe of it. Now I wanna play it again, so thanks for that.
>>
Which part of the game did you enjoy the most? I think mine was the circus, particularly because of what it revealed about Max and his sister’s past. I’d even say that visiting Max’s old house was just as interesting, if not more so, than the circus. Second place is a close call between the village inhabited by children and the insect planet. Overall, the village is better, but I really liked the body horror in the second half of the insect planet segment. The Aztec village segment is arguably the least interesting. I wonder if anyone would actually consider that to be their favorite.

Now that you mention it, I've always thought that most popular point-and-click adventure games tend to be comedies.
>>
How does it compare to Harvester?
>>
>>12589443
Its an amazing first experience but once you play it you probably never play it again until decades later

I've always wondered how a sequel would work
>>
>>12589636
Simple, Sanitarium is good while Harvester isn't
>>
>>12589443
Completed it about 5 years ago
I love it, though I have to admit it gets weaker as the game progresses
Still worth playing though
>>
>>12589443
the first levels are good and cohesive but the aztec part and the alien world didn't fit imo
>>
>>12589443
Love the atmosphere of the first few parts, but it gradually loses it throughout. I've gotten as far as the amusement park section, then I tired of it.

>The Aztec village segment is arguably the least interesting. I wonder if anyone would actually consider that to be their favorite.
As someone who plays adventure games mainly for the puzzles, I liked the Aztec segment. Except for the maze, the maze can go fuck itself.

On the subject of adventure games set in lunatic asylums, I preferred Blackstone to Sanitarium. Though both are good and they're very different games.
>>
>>12589446
Same. I beat or almost beat the first level with the difformed kids, and stopped playing.
>>

>I preferred Blackstone to Sanitarium
Did you? I found Blackstone too short and lacking. Still made me order the whole collection of books. Didn't enjoy them.
>>
>>12590003
Blackstone had more fun puzzles. I remember Blackstone and Sanitarium as about the same length, but I guess that could be because Sanitarium's puzzles were easier I spent less time playing it. Blackstone's ending sucked though. But I'd rather have that than the puzzles devolving into clicking things in the right order.

the ending song>>>village>both of the asylum sections >bugclops>olmec>house>circus>the weird mortuary section>the shitty ending where they tie it all together>the level in the sky lab>whatever level i forgot about

The Game shouldnt have shifted so much in atmosphere, imo that is the main flaw
>>
>>12591010
>The Game shouldnt have shifted so much in atmosphere
I remember reading an interview where the devs said the game started as several game ideas that got combined into one game. That might explain why it can feel a little (too) schizophrenic in its tone shifts.
>>
>>12591050
I like it because it feels in universe. The olmec and bugclops being just universes made up based on objects is fun yet you feel that theres a greater dimension being built by that fantasy with levels which you see at the end.
>>
>>12591050
>>12591070
True, but they should have made it feel the same, they feel just a little too bright (for the lack of a better word)
>>
>>12589443
Shit its only rated T???

Removing my download this moment. Not gonna waste my time on kid slop.
