So was he Ganon or not?
>>
Agahnim is Ganon spelled backwards.

There are statues of him on the Pyramid of Power. Ganon would never let anyone other than himself have such an honor. We also see how Ganon can go from a spirit to creating a physical form from scratch right atop his tower after the second Agahnim fight. Agahnim was likely a physical form Ganon created in the same way. Furthermore, Agahnim said quickly kind of sounds like "A Ganon" to boot.

Agahnim should have had a greater spell variety. The guy had cool presentation and brought various calamities to Hyrule in ALttP's backstory, but his actual move set needed more.

No, he was Agahnim (= "a Ganon")
>>
>>12589489
Is this the only game he’s ever showed up in? Pretty surprised he’s never been brought back as far as I know.
>>
>>12589584
In person, yes, though there have been occasional lookalikes.
>>
>>12589582
Again him, not a ganon
>>
>>12589489
I think some text's call him "Ganon's shadow" but in execution he's more like star wars astral projection like in the dumb 8th movie or perhaps more like those ki-based dopplegangers from the early episodes of Dragon Ball Z. He's clearly not at full ganon power, but he's also some sort of weird aether where only his own magic can hurt him.
>>
>>12589581
lookin good
>>
>>12589501
Actually, Agahnim is an anagram for Mingebag
>>
>>12589489
I think he's supposed to be Ganon's light word form, but the writers didn't care to hard confirm it, so it was left subtle. Just sound out his name, it has all the same consonants as "Ganon."
>>
>>12589660
Really? In what games? Pretty curious if I saw it and didn’t realize or not unless it’s not retro because I haven’t played any of the modern games
>>
>>12589581
I wonder how spareribs of this dude taste.
>>
>>12590019
Tastes about as good as smoked Dodongo
>>
Often times Zelda has the most basic bitch world building but this is actually a pretty cool character

What are those arab shoes he's wearing? They had them in Aladdin too

Never played twilight princess either and that doesn’t even remotely look like Agahnim except maybe a little bit of the color scheme for the outfit. Maybe if I ever get around to playing it I’ll see something similar but I checked out of the Zelda series w the Windwaker bait and switch after the spaceworld 2000 video.

It makes no sense in the story if he was actually Ganon because Ganon is trying to escape his Dark-World prison, so I'm goibg to have to side with the manga on this and say "alter-ego" was Ganon being very arrogant about a dude he influenced.

Is “alterego” even an accurate translation of what he says in Japanese?
>>
>>12591068
Not quite, but close enough.
>>

Isn't it the same word from the Shadow Clone technique from Naruto ?
>>

From the evidence, it’s an easier argument to make that he’s Ganon’s projection from the other side. Personally, though, I prefer to think of him as a completely separate wizard.

Maybe one who was initially intrigued by stories of the Golden Land, then fascinated, then obsessed. In his intense digging and reading, he stumbles upon a way to glimpse the other side, and Ganon sees him. Maybe he offers the wizard power to help him return, maybe he corrupts and possesses him to a degree. I like how it’s all a possibility.

IMO, Ganon being able to casually hard-light project from the other side makes his imprisonment there feel much less meaningful. But hey, whatever you prefer.

I think a lot of RPGS from that era (and other games, like Super Metroid) deliberately left a lot of stuff vague, just so you can enjoy filling in the gaps yourself.
>>
>>12589489
Hold up, isn't that the Sheikah symbol on his chest?
>>12591126
I like your interpretation
>>
>>12591080
Isn't that "fun" kanji also the one for "minutes" of a clock? As in, the divisions of an hour?
Remember, the only reason we call seconds "seconds" is because they're the "second" division of an hour (divided into minutes first, then divide those minutes second)

Ganon's soul creates a physical form for itself in the very scene you attached as an image. Agahnim's physical form is probably just Ganon creating a body for himself from scratch.
>>
>>12591139
that puts an interesting concept in my head that i struggle to put into words
>>
>>12591302
Or he possessed the wizard priest guy.
>>
>>12591312
He wouldn't need to possess anyone if he could have his soul create a body from scratch, which he can do.
>>
>>12591313
If he can create a body in the Light World at any time, why's the plot about unshackling himself from the Dark World? It at least makes a bit more sense if Agahnim was an existing person.
>>
>>12591314
So he can use his fullest power of the Triforce outside of the Dark World. Agahnim is essentially a heavily watered-down copy.

Personally, I don't think Agahnim is even a physical body, but just an astral projection that Ganon managed to slip through the seal. It's why he can't actually be hit with attacks.
>>
>>12591314
Part of Ganon's soul is staying with Ganon's actual body in the Dark World. Ganon isn't at full power with his soul split method, and Ganon can't get his armies conveniently out of the Dark World either.
>>
>>12591310
I don't think it's that hard to grasp, it's facets of a whole part. A fraction that functions an avatar.

It's distinct from Phantom Ganon (in OoT and Wind Waker) where they're spirits created in Ganondorf's image, but aren't an avatar from which he remotely interacts with the player.
The Phantom Ganons that appear in Tears of the Kingdom were more ambiguous if they're just dopplegangers or possibly avatars, but Age of Imprisonment apparently makes it clear that Ganondorf manufactures them using monster parts.
>>
>>12591320
but being a "facet of a whole part" is the interesting part to me, and makes me wonder if agahnim is even conscious that his lust for sorcery wisdom probably lead him down a path that would serve ganon, the embodiment of evil, very well, whether agahnim knew or not his lust for knowledge would corrupt him.
to me it sort of solidifies the idea that ganon is just a constant, an embodiment of evil that inevitably arises from the worst traits of humanity that grows over the course of time.
>>
>>12591327
Funnily enough, what you're describing is actually pretty much Castlevania's lore with regards to Dracula, Chaos, and lust for power and/or darkness.

If Agahnim was a facet of Ganon from the beginning, then he was never "serving" him but was merely an avatar.

On the other hand, there's Zant that was a power hungry fool that willingly submit to Ganondorf. He was sort of a puppet, but became the link that Ganondorf needed to escape the twilight realm.

Speaking of puppets, that's something Ganondorf tends to do frequently. Twilight Princess had Puppet Zelda, and Wind Waker had Puppet Ganon.
