I actually quite enjoyed this version of the game, bought an english repro cart and played both games back to back and had a good time. Some of the music isn't up there but that wasn't a big deal, pretty good port and unfairly hated on in my opinion.

I enjoyed them as well.I am aware the sound is not as good as the originals but honestly I also am able to enjoy these "lo-fi" renditions. The songs are still the same and even though the sound quality is weaker, there's still a uniqueness to them, it's oddly nice for a change. Or at the very least, it's not a deal breaker to me.I don't think they added anything new to 2, but the original Mother has a run button (that doesn't glitch the NPCs speed as the NES proto), and the EVE chip is a much better solution to the infamous difficult in Mt. Itoi than the easy ring from the fanhack.
