What's the longest amount of time you've spent playing a game in one day?
>>
Probably 10-15 hours with Fallout 2. Well over 24 with Lineage II.
>>
I think like 20 hours with some food and drink breaks every now and again when Monster Hunter 3U released in 2013

24 hours of some old MMORPG that is probably dead now. 24 hour double XP events and a great deal of spare time is a terrible combo.

Played NES Metal Gear 8 hours straight trying to beat it as a kid without much info. Got little over half-way through before I had to call it quits.

Pulled a 12-hour all nighter with a friend playing the SNES port of NBA Jam TE. I still have the cart with my 36-0 record and the all-star team replacing rookies. To the full extent of the Jam motherfucker.
>>
Three times I played a games for more than 15 hours straight.

1. A friend of mine challenged me to beat all of the classic Mega Man games in one day, this was before 10 was released.

2. Same friend challenged me to beat each of the mainline Metal Gear games in one day.

3. Was challenged again to play through the entirety of Shadow of the Colossus in one sitting. This was my first, and only time I've played the game.
>>
Probably around 12 hours in Mario 64
>>
>>5051074
Warcraft 3 OC. About 20 hours in one go while it was +30C outside, then I was staggered by fatigue at 5 AM.

He's apparently jumping around to a bunch of spots at TGS. His known schedule is in the OP news.
>>

Toujima is cute. CUTE!
>>
>>5051421

I'd want them for Resident Evil. Wish Arino would play more of those games. That era had a lot of Spooky Mansion exploration games.

Mansion of Lost Souls was one, BUT there's literally a mirror that just gives you solutions. It's totally easy mode. They should have forbade Arino from using it.
>>
>>5051074
When I was a kid I went pretty much a full day playing Everquest. Ate at the computer, only took breaks for the bathroom. I drew the line at literal poopsocking
>>
I found a CD full of emulated games and I had a wish to play each game until i beat them.
Biggest problems are, I could become tired too soon or stumble upon some really difficult game.
>>
>>5051074
12 hours Baldur's Gate 2.
>>
18 or so hours. I would actually lose a little bit of weight doing that esepcially if I still needed to finish the game the very next day. X-Com is the worst offender because it usually required more than just one or two days to finish, this series might be the end of me one day. No rest for the wicked
>>
>>5051074
I once played final fantasy 15 for 109 hours or so

I want to say I distorted space and time and the nature of reality in the process but I think I just blew a mind or two
>>
>>5055790
on a more retro note, I once played vanguard bandits for 52 hours straight while chugging down 2 cases of cola

we're allowing potty breaks of course

No new translation since Zelda 2 part one and that was some time ago. Can't actually discuss anything beyond generic comments about the show or cast without offending people with spoilers, so there is nothing to post about.
>>
>>5058124
The show is on a break at the moment too, so there's not that much else to discuss either.

I can't remember them ever spreading out parts of a sub this far apart. I would think that they'd be done or almost done translating everything when they start releasing anything. I could've sworn that they had talked about subbing it a while ago, so I went to look on old pages of their forum. It was literally over a year and a half ago that the Zelda 2 translator hinted that he was working on it. I seriously hope he was just about done with all of it when they released the first part.
>>
>>5069931
I don't care as much as you because I have a lot of episodes left to watch until I come to the LoZII episode, but it's always great when a new subbed episode comes out soon, so here's to that.

That's because you watch random episodes, instead of watching them in order. Not to mention certain episodes spoil certain previous episodes, so that's another bad thing about not watching in order.

>What's the longest amount of time you've spent playing a game in one day?

I've played games for over 24 hours without stopping for food or drink before. Sometimes I just get really into a game and time melts away. That's why I have to be very careful about metering my time with games when I have other looming responsibilities or plans.

He's doing this as a fan, being nice to other fans.

Someone asked him if he might consider subbing a specific episode if they donated a few bucks. And he just said he would consider their request after Tsubasa and Contra, which he already planned next.

Some favorites that I know for sure aren't subbed are GCCX On The Pacific, Densha De Go! 64, and Quiz Tonosama no Yabou.
>>

>>
>>5071603
Hardsubs will be up in a week or two. I just uploaded my subs of the final episode and I'm about to go through all episodes of Season 2 again to fix times and stuff.

>>5071384
Wow, people who ask for donations must be really confident in their translation skills. I've been translating as a hobby for a decade now and I still wouldn't dare.
>>
>>5071584
>>5071642
Once someone subs an episode, even very very poorly, it's extremely unlikely it'll get subbed again. So a bad sub basically kills the chance of a good sub coming out, meaning there is no waiting for high quality subs for that episode anymore.
If he'd just put out a softsub though it'd be fine, as with the timing and basic translation there it'd be trivial for someone competent to come along and finish it up. But a bad hardsub is worse than no sub at all, if you want a proper translation.
>>
>>5071674
Yes, yes, blah blah blah
You make this argument every time. People are sick of waiting. You're not wrong, I agree with your sentiment, but it shows how poorly SA-GCCX have done at keeping up with demand -- people are totally willing to watch poor subs and they'll enjoy them gratefully because they just want to watch new episodes of the show they enjoy every once in a while.
I like your idea about softsubs. Maybe message the guy and ask politely that he release them as softsubs?
>>

It's not that far-fetched to think that more than one person disagrees with you, is it?
>>

What you're saying seems reasonable enough, but didn't all the TV-Nihon eps get retranslated?

Either way, good idea about the soft subs.
>>
>>5071521
>SA can go to hell. i welcome anyone whos actually going to get subs done.

>What you're saying seems reasonable enough, but didn't all the TV-Nihon eps get retranslated?
The only episode that got retranslated was the Ghosts'n Goblins one and the Northernmost Arcade special. A bunch of TVN-subbed challenges also ended up on the American DVD release with subs, but that was just a lucky break.
>>
>>5072469
Kinda curious on how all these versions compare, beyond TVNs weeabooisms.
>>
>>5071646
>Wow, people who ask for donations must be really confident in their translation skills.
It's usually the opposite. Fansubbers usually don't ask for donations, but scanlators do, and it's usually the shitty groups that beg the most. These are the ones that consist of 15 year old ESLs and "I got a C in Japanese 101, I can totally translate this manga" translators.
>>
>>5071646
I'm sure quality is more important than quality to most. If you were able to shit out a sub every other week you'd likely get a sizable amount of donations. The ones who're easily able to 'meet quotas' are usually those with no standards so there you go.
>>
>>5072484
>quality is more important than quality
quantity is more important I mean. Can i get some donations for my posts now that there are coming out at a higher peace??
>>
>>5072472
TVN's weeabooness is overblown as a complaint. The big issue is that their translations are just plain wrong a LOT of the time.

People don't resub shows from scratch because they don't like that some random terms went untranslated. If that was the case, you'd see resubs of goddamn everything. People resub TVN-subbed shows because TVN's translators are really fucking awful at Japanese.

Also fuck tumblr
>>
>>5072489
Also, here's a comparison between TVN and SA's GnG release, the interview segment.

Notice how TVN get fucking everything wrong. Now remember that this is the only episode from this season that got its interview portion resubbed by someone else.
>>
>>5072497
Wow, real Engrish. Thanks for the comparisons pham
>>
>>5072506
It's not even that. A bike throttle is called an "accelerator" in Japanese, which is commonly shortened to just "accel". "Axel" is just pure retarded.
>>
>>5071674
In fact, I'm pretty positive SA have said they prefer subbing unsubbed material instead of resubbing stuff others have subbed badly. That's why they haven't done more than one S2 episode.

Also, everyone knows that these people that are "just happy to get subs" would be screaming bloody murder if SA went 5 months between releases and then released an episode that had already been subbed by someone else.
>>
>>5072484
I guess most people just don't give a fuck about translation quality.
I used to translate manga and it'd take me about three to four days to translate the latest chapter, but most people would still read the mangapanda translations that were literally google translate tier just because they came out a day earlier.
>>
>>5072585
Manga translations are a different beast altogether. Even if you know Japanese decently, you can't tell how good a translation is because the translator removed all the Japanese from the release. If you want to check, you need to locate a raw and sit there crossreferencing the two like an asshole.

This means it's pretty easy for any retard to just "translate" without really knowing the language and be fairly secure that he won't get called out. Can't do that with TV shows and movies, since the audio is right there.
>>
>>5072592
Same thing with games that have just text boxes and no voice acting, its easy to get away with mistakes or being more liberal that way
>>
>>5072597
In those cases there's usually an existing fanbase that has played the game in Japanese, though.
>>
>>5072606
If you played the game in Japanese, why would you bother to read a translated version?
Cross checking games is far more complicated than comparing manga side by side.
>>

I fully agree TV-N were absolutely fuck awful but honestly their recent stuff isn't terrible. I'd like to see them give GCCX another shot now. For some Tokusatsu stuff these days they are still the only option and as someone who was watching it back in the day when they were the only option, I can safely say their translations are like a different beast altogether now.
>>
After a lot of years of waiting for certain things to be translated (be it either series, manga or games), I've decided to learn japanese myself. I want to at least have a basic knowledge. I'm currently almost done with learning hiragana.

What's the deal with AD Watanabe? I'm on the first episode of Season 11, I haven't seen her at all (other than in some tamage segments), but the pastebin says she got introduced in Season 10. How come, when Nakayama was the AD for season 10 too?
>>
>>5072863
>>thread about TV show
Pretty sure those belong in /tv/
>>
>>5073129
There's often some AD overlap, and Watanabe was usually behind the scenes actually assisting with the directing. She wasn't really there to help much with the games. She comes back in a later season as a full director.
>>
>>5073201
Can you explain the concept of a GCCX director to me? I know some ADs became APs (is that the same as a director?). Do directors pick which game Arino will play in a season? What other functions do they have? How do ADs assist with things outside of game challenges?
>>
>>5073267
AD: Assistant Director
AP: Assistant Producer
>>
>>5073267
Different ADs have different jobs on the show. The ADs who help during the game challenges can have some grueling obligations. They test out games beforehand pretty thoroughly to help decide what should be on the show and to find the trouble spots. They take notes during Arino's challenges and do a lot of the episode editing afterward. If Arino can't beat a game, an AD almost always finishes it to show the ending. It's like a training camp to see if the ADs have what it takes to work in TV.

Directors do pretty much what you would expect. They would help with planning, filming, editing, etc.

35-40 hours
The first time I played FF VI was two years ago the day before thanksgiving. I started playing around 1AM . Feels like fucking yesterday, where is time going.
Any way, I played it from start to finish, no guide, only took breaks to piss or get food to smuggle into my cave. Took about 40 hours or so, was hopped up on energy drinks. Emulator also crashed and I lost about 5 hours of progress. I even grabbed thanksgiving dinner and ate it while playing FF in my room

I can barely finish anything or start anything due to anhedonia. I'd been trying to play FFVI for years but it bored me, This time it finally clicked and I just enjoyed everything about it so much and was having such a great time, being genuinely happy that I didn't want it to end. After about 20 hours, I knew if I went to sleep, I would feel like depressed shit like usual when I woke up and not be able to ever finish it so I just said "fuck it" and took it on as a challenge to finish it in one sitting on my first playthrough

Felt so great that even after I finished it, it took me a couple hours to get to sleep

I feel the cinematic platformers and hard action games always make for good episodes. Prince of Persia, Out of this World, Flashback, Nosferatu, Serpentrion, all worth a watch. Ninja Gaiden 1 or 2, Punch-Out!!!, Adventure Island, Castlevania 3, Super Spy Hunter, Battletoads, and Mystery of Atlantis are all good episodes.

>look up raws
>they're harder to find than subbed versions
>all sub groups hide their hq sources like it's a stash of military secrets
>end up having to wait for subs anyway to get decent video quality
>>
>>5082462
I don't know the specific episode you're referring to, but usually that's because the subbers use the official translations when it comes to game elements.
So it's often wildly different from a direct translation because of how localization works.
>>
>>5082847
What episode are you looking for?
http://gccxraws.blogspot.com/
>>
>>5082850
That's a handy list, though it was more of a general complaint.
We don't have anything that provides HQ raws after broadcast in Japan, kind of like nyaa does for anime.
So unless you use a proxy and just catch the program live (with all the quality drops and stuttering typical of proxied online tv), there's no way of just catching a show as it's out.
>>
>>5082854
Nyaa is just a torrent tracker and you can't really call groups like Ohys or Leopard high quality, not to mention they are just a middle man in the raw providing business.
Right now you get raws within a day, I don't really think that's worth complaining about. It's certainly magnitudes faster than waiting for subs.
>>
>>5082861
>Right now you get raws within a day
Yes, for anime.
I'm complaining about TV shows and stuff that's not just ripped instantly off crunchyroll.
>>
>>5082870
I'm talking about this show. If you had lurked for a month you could have seen raws for the Kage no Densetsu episode posted here four weeks ago.
Crunchyroll isn't instant either. Depending on the series you have several days delay compared to the Japanese broadcast due to channel shenanigans.
>>
>>5082462
>>5082465
If the boss is called something else in the English manual, they usually use that name in the subs instead of the Japanese name, even though most of their viewers aren't going to be familiar with that manual name.
>>
>>5082847
Sounds like you're just a retard, I can find raws for any show I want no problem. Sure, the quality is generally SD tier for niche shows, but it's not like you need to see the individual pores on the face of a variety show presenter.
>>
>>5083098
Besides GCCX has really bad quality game footage for some reason.
>>
>>5082885
>>5082848

Which is gay shit. They're not localizing the game, they're translating the show. The narrator clearly calls the enemy "Zombie drunkard". that's a cool bad ass name. I don't care if the gay stupid English version calls him "Zombie vampire".

Another grievance: they show a Famicom, PC-Engine, or Mega Drive. Arino or Narrator clearly calls them that. The subs say "NES, Turbo-grafix, and Mega Drive".

More gay shit. We're talking about Japan. None of those consoles existed. If you're watching GCCX, I dont' think you're gonna be confused by the concept of a Famicom.

Yeah that shit pisses me off, it takes you right out of the moment. You hear the narrator say a noun that you're familiar with and then the subtitles rename it completely. So you have to take extra time matching up wtf the subtitles are talking about,
Popular nouns like "famicom" or game titles should just be left the fuck alone.

I've also been looking for raws of the early show for a very long time and I've only been laughed at or ignored last time I did so, around 2014. My intention was just to sub them back into my own language. Boy were GCCX threads on /vr/ the crappiest tripfag-ridden hole back then, I remember people also asking 480p versions of the newest for toasters, and some tripfags just kept telling them to fuck off.
>>

It's all about accessibility. As a euro gamer, I'm always annoyed that they translated the Megadrive to Genesis. But that's the logic they're going with. You may know what Takahashi meijin no bouken jima is but I'm sure Adventure island is a more common name for the game.

Plus it always, always annoys me even more when a "translation" leaves japanese words and terms untranslated because "everyone knows them" or "you can't translate senpai". That's TV-Nihon level shit.

Yeah, but I fear that the show has to avoid violence right? All the games they've played are sorta G to T rated. You'll get games like Clock Tower or Nosferatu that have some pixilated gore, but nothing substantial. I noticed Biohazard was a DVD exclusive. Doom might be unironically too violent for tv.

Though they air at like what midnight? I know they have gorey anime at that time. So I don't know. I think the show aims to be "family friendly".
>>
>>5089061

I think they chose JP released games because of ease of licsensincg.

Arino can sorta read English a tiny bit, but doesn't know what it means. He can read English signs in most games.

I don't use them when I'm playing video games or anything but they are great for keeping cool and also headaches.

>cue some mouthbreather saying "just lern moonrunes"
>yet these people who supposedly know japanese never discuss the unsubbed episodes in these threads
>>
>>5100476
Last time we tried discussing unsubbed episodes we got bitched at for spoilers. Then when we started using spoiler tags people whined about it being clutter. Now no-one is talking any more and the whiners are still whining about it.
>>
>>5100476
Because there is no unsubbed episode to discuss. I'm still waiting for raws for 266.
>>
>>5100476
You really SHOULD learn Japanese though. If all you EOP's spoke the language we'd be able to discuss the episodes here without spoiling anything.
>>
>>5100487
>>5100497
I'm with you folks actually. People crying about spoilers on /vr/ need to fuck the hell off.
>>
>>5100487
>Then when we started using spoiler tags people whined about it being clutter.
It was like one dude whining, and it was only because someone live posted a couple episodes with like 30 spoiler tag posts in a row instead of saving it up for maybe half a dozen posts. On a slower board like this, someone sees there's 30 new posts in an hour and they could think there must be a new sub, then they get disappointed when all the posts are one guy telling us what happened in a new unsubbed episode.
>>
>>5100719
>someone sees there's 30 new posts in an hour and they could think there must be a new sub,
The only such discussion you get for new subs is about translation quality. Nobody watching them seems to care about the content despite all the constant whining.
>>
>>5100476
It was reasonable to think the next part of the Zelda 2 sub was about to come out when this thread was made. It just hasn't happened yet. There are new Yoiko subs, but those aren't really /vr/.
>>
>>5100732
Yep. That sums up this thread.
>>
>>5087816
Adventure/mystery/horror games are always good.
>>
>>5100719
He was whining about the guy "boasting about watching the episode", from what I remember. It was also probably one of those shitters that regularly come in to post about how this is the worst thread on /vr/ or whatever.
>>
Does anyone know where I can find the full versions of the DVD episodes that aren't the shitty kotaku ones.
I know not all of them got translated before the DVD but some definitely were and got taken down when the DVD got announced. Does anyone know where I can find those? It'd be great to watch the proper episodes for those since it includes stuff like S.O.S which is one of my favourite episodes but I now can't find a non-kotaku version of.
>>
>>5102123
You could buy the DVDs and support GCCX in the West, anon.
>>
>>5102207
It wasn't released in my country or I would've done that when it came out.
>>
>>5102216
Fair enough, can't argue with that my friend. I should probably rip mine sometime.
>>
>>5102323
The DVD releases are out there, right? He's looking for the original versions of the episodes, I thought.
>>
>>5102485
Oh maybe, I may have misunderstood.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>5103903
Just think, if you just spent half the time you do complaining about translations on learning Japanese, you'd be watching the show by now.

I wonder if whoever subs RE is going to translate the Japanese subtitles? Half the fun of that episode was the difference between the dub script and the on-screen text.
>>
>>5103983
ok
>>
>>5103983
And instead of complaining about stuff they don't like in videogames, they should just learn ASM and reverse engineer the games to modify them. I mean, learning ASM isn't that hard. Given a few years they could be pro at it.
>>
>>5104190
That sounds like a great idea. Do you have some learning guide available?
I know a bit of IA32 assembly but I don't think that's useful for many retro games.
>>
>>5104197
You can literally google "(insert ASM target here) ASM tutorial) and get info on Z80, 6502, 68000, or just about any other major cpu used in a console. I was trying to point out how dumb it was to expect people to spend years learning something over something so trivial and unimportant, but hey, go right on ahead.
>>
>>5104271
I'm also learning Japanese and it was one of the best decisions in my life.
If you think it's unimportant you might want to reconsider your stay.
>>
>>5104308
Alright, but if you really can't understand why people don't want to invest years of work just to be able to view a TV show, then you are kinda a faggot.
>>
>>5104324
It's not just about viewing a TV show but also playing games etc. You can't tell me you only watch the show and have no interest in the featured games.
If you only have a limited interest you simply shouldn't be here. You are just wasting the time you consider too precious to learn something useful.
>>
>>5103983
Yes I'm going to decide to learn japanese right now and be able to enjoy all episodes of GCCX a week later, thanks anon!
>>
>>5052456
Sounds like your friend was shagging your sister and just trying to keep you occupied

>>5104582
I know, I'm just exaggerating my reaction for comedic purposes.
Sometimes you have to wonder if he's doing it on purpose though.

I mean, one thing is being bad at vidya, it's another thing to deliberately use the only attack out of two that does almost nothing.

But most of the games featured were either released in the US in english, have english translation patches, or don't have enough japanese in them to require knowledge of japanese in order to play. The ones that aren't, well, I don't feel I'm missing anything by not playing quiz games. They shouldn't even qualify as games. I have no great desire to play horse racing sims either, so no great loss there. Can you name some other featured games that aren't quiz games or horse racing sims that require knowledge of japanese and don't have a translation patch?
>>
>>5104668
Just looking at the recent episodes:
Captain Tsubasa, Pocket Zaurus, Tenchi wo Kurau, Dragon Quest. That's not even considering that translations are a poor replacement.
But you can't even appreciate quiz games.
>>
>>5104679
Well if we're talking about Quiz games, it doesn't just stop at the language does it? You need to be intimately familiar with Japanese media and culture at the time the game was made along with Japanese history.

And obviously, as someone who doesn't just have a "limited interest" you do that as well, right? Before playing Yuyu no Quiz de Go! Go! you make sure you're already familiar with Yuyu, what was popular in the Japanese media during and before 1992, news events, celebrities, etc?

Because that's what you'd need to properly appreciate that game, with any quiz game.
>>
>>5051085
>well over 24
>in one day
god you're dumb.
>>
>>5104690
I didn't like Yuyu that much. My Angel or Nanairo Dreams are more to my taste. And I've gotten pretty close to unifying the nation in Tonosama no Yabo.
I learn a lot from quiz games. When I get something wrong I look it up to not just memorize the answer but to understand the background.
>>
>>5104679
>But you can't even appreciate quiz games

Can you?
>>
>>5104679
Captain Tsubasa and it's sequels DO have translation patches, so does Pocket Zaurus, the other two you mentioned WERE released in the US. Tenchi wo Kurau got released as Dynasty Wars, and Dragon Quest was released as Dragon Warrior.

Actually try to name ONE. Or try explaining how a quiz has GAMEPLAY.
>>
>>5104704
More from the early episodes. I'm too lazy to check if there's some retarded MSX version with gibberish translation floating around or not.
Angelique Trois
ROOMMANIA#203
Kawa no Nushi Tsuri 2
Tokimeki Memorial
Famicom Jump: Hero Retsuden

>and Dragon Quest was released as Dragon Warrior.
You know just as well that it's not the same game.

>Or try explaining how a quiz has GAMEPLAY.
What is there to explain?

"No no, (I'm joking) it doesn't mean the same thing"

The part in the game he's stuck on is where he is fighting a "Trump" card that is killing his character.

Is this even bait?

Come to think of it, it'd be odd for someone not familiar with the show to know that one part from that one episode. I must be too tired, I didn't get the joke. I see it now though.

The final song and video are out. The OP has a block up in their 15th anniversary news with the lyrics and distribution. It says Messe Messe Club will be the name of Abe's dance unit.

heh- here's one that's hard to beat.

I spent 27 hours one day playing Fire Emblem Fates.

How 27? I was sick on a ship that rolled 3 time zones at the same time instead of one hour at a time. So my full day was 27 hours, I was too sick to get up so I played Fire Emblem.

How does a comfy, fun show about reliving your childhood attract the most elitist, autistic fans?
>>
>>5106519
does it?
>>
>>5106521
Absolutely and I'm not just talking about the threads here, I've noticed it everywhere I see people talking about the show. People are always flaunting their superiority, trying to gatekeep the show, putting others down for not enjoying it the same way they do, etc.

I actually think this is probably the best place to discuss the show, even if the threads have been slow lately. The other places I've seen people talk about it are full of terrible people.
>>
>>5106525
that's too bad

I just found the show recently. and I've been enjoying the shit out of it so far.

Idk where else people would talk about it, but too bad some people may be dicks
>>
>>5106540
I guess because it's such a niche show in the west and the places you can discuss it are so far and few between it attracts a certain type of people, it happens I guess.

I've been into the show for about a year now I'd say? And this is the only place I'd ever come to talk about it anymore.
