Just watchin’ TV.

That movie was 1991, the peak era of LCD gaming before the game boy totally killed them, so that is pretty accurate. As the game boy initially gained popularity the market flooded with other cheaper handhelds to trick parents into buying the wrong thing for Christmas.

In radio shack in 1991 there was a display island in the store (where smart phones and tablets are now) covered completely in playable demo handheld tiger and other games. There would be about 20 games up and running at any given time. Kids would be in there playing them until the staff kicked us out, but they usually gave us about half an hour in their little LCD arcade.

this one gets a pass i think. in the movie (Enemy of the State),if memory services it's actually a gift he buys for his son or his son had it and it's broken or something so it doesnt work, i dont think they ever show it playing a game or making sounds or anything. the "zavitz" hucard is some files with dirt on the NSA or homeland security or whatever that will take them down that the character named zavitz (jason lee) hides in will smith's turbo express. then gene hackman gets his hands on it at some point when he and will smith meet up.

the part that doesnt make sense is that will smith's son has a turbo express at all. it was discontinued in 1994 and was 7 years old in 1998 when this movie came out. gameboy or gameboy color would have made more sense.

zavitz' character slips it into Will Smith's bag at the lingerie store to hide it from the NSA dudes

I liked the movie where Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle played SotC in real life for the scene because Adam Sandler apparently likes SotC.
Movie was called Reign Over Me from what I remember.

when I was a kid in about 1992 I saw a massive crate full of lcd games in a supermarket for about $4 each, they were a mega fad

In police academy 7 they show someone addicted to a gameboy (making fun of the tetris popularity) and then show a mockup looking like a pc game
>>
>>5094383
oh shit i just got flooded with memories of playing this as a kid. looking back it was pretty bad but i enjoyed it while my older bro would hog the nes
