The game has been out for a while so the dust has officially settled. So what did we think of it? Let's have a thread.
>>
>>3591978
Story has pacing issues
Excessive grinding
Annoying audio cues
Overly simplistic side quests
Battles get repetitive
>>
Still inferior to Digital Devil Saga.
>>
>>3592018
why can't atlas make a game better than their ps2 era work?
>>
>>3591991
>Annoying audio cues
Compared to what exactly? SMTVV is pretty quiet compared to other JRPGs with excessive dialog.
>>
>>3591991
So, same problems as the original?

Is it worth considering if I thought the original was mid at best?
>>
>>3592030
Everything he listed is actually fixed in Vengeance. Even the grinding because the level scaling is gone, if anything the game is too easy now. You need to play on hard or the game is a complete cake walk.
>>
>>3591991
>Story has pacing issues
Eh, they really cleaned it up in Vengeance
>Excessive grinding
What
>Annoying audio cues
Personal taste I get
>Overly simplistic side quests
Welcome to JRPGs, the side quests in IV were obnoxious so V's simplicity is a breath of fresh air
>Battles get repetitive
That's every game, including God Hand eventually.
>>
I got to the fairy village and dropped it because I got pissed off with the side questing. My favorite part in the game so far has been the whole segment inside of the school. There were some great scenes and vibes in there. I’m over collecting new demons when I get to a new area and fusing new ones. There are way too many. I don’t use any of their unique features or abilities because it’s a pain in the ass to get your party ready, only for it to change shortly afterwards. As for the main story I’m not invested at all. The open world is getting tedious and annoying. I don’t want to finish the game. What a shame
>>
>>3592076
>My favorite part in the game so far has been the whole segment inside of the school
You're subhuman
>>
>>3592081
>responding seriously to someone complaining SMT has too many demons in it
>>
>>3591978
I still haven't touched it much, but picked it up on sale. I absolutely loved the original on Switch. One of the best JRPGs I've played since the 80s. The original story was sparse and blond boy kinda went comically evil randomly at the end. That was my only complaint. The side quests are simple, but they work for the world and setting we play in. The real star is the gameplay and I loved every bit of it. I did everything. Never got bored.
>>
I like it more than Persona 5 but the thing I hate is that there's no fucking replayability and by the time you finish your first route, you essentially hit 95% of the content. Unlike SMT IV where there's some variance with how you do shit, V is the exact same shit in the routes (literally all of them even in CoC and CoV) and there's no progression once you finish the game.

It needs some sort of endgame mode with a post exclusive demon grind.
>>
>>3592128
I would say the 3rd area being completely different between both routes adds more than 5% replayability. There is also the virtual battler.
>>
>>3592136
virtual battler is barely anything tbqh. and nah the 3rd area while being cool isn't really much. mind you you still get those shit dungeons lol. there's just really nothing that really warrants another gameplay ESPECIALLY with how CoV just rewards you with the post game bonuses anyways.
>>
>>3592143
I disagree but if you really think that new map, dungeon, and super bosses are not worth around play through that's your opinion I guess.
>>
>>3592027
Atlus had some unrestrained freedom and creativity back then that basically led them seppukuing themselves into near bankruptcy, leaning hard into milking Persona 4, and eventually getting bought out by Sega who tard wrangles them to near suffocation.
Combine this with a lot of the old guard that's been with them since the beginning leaving, a lot of younger staff joining the team around IV's production, and older talent being more focused on Persona and here we are
>>
>>3592294
If they weren't bought out by Sega they never would have survived.
>>
>defeat ishtar at max press turns because you're too lazy to run around looking for those contraptions
>still can't use dreadful gleam
>can't use seething mansemat
>can't fuse robo- tao or yoko or lucifer
>can't change back to ninjabeano look
>lucifer and satan are kinda mid as the kids say
I liked it but I also like to complain.
>>
>>3592136
Shinjuku was a disappointment.
>>
>>3591978
Qadistu are garbage villains. Yoko is retarded. The story is still garbage, it has the same problem the original route has of having an aimless plot until towards the end and some characters like Dazai have worse characterization because it hinges on you having played the original for some retarded reason. Masakado is a terrible superboss. Shinjuku has good music but is otherwise unremarkable. Naho should be able to change his innate skill with essences.
>>
>>3592645
Yoko existed to make Tao look better. She did her job.
>>
>>3592128
I can see this complaint. I did everything in one playthrough without even trying to be a completionist. Only thing I missed was Shiva because I didn't realize that was how you unlocked the true final boss. If I replay, it will just be doing the same content all over again. I'm fine with that, but a lot of people wouldn't be.
>>
>>3591978
It's the best turn based RPG of all time.
>>
>>3592128
First of all, it has more exclusive content between routes than IV did. Second of all IT HAS a post-game mode where every enemy is level 150 and instead of critical they all use Pierce on Magatsuhi phase which is way more dangerous.
>>
>>3592739
bitch no it doesnt and 2nd that post game mode is still ass. still the exact same content, no rewards
>>
>>3592746
Bitch it's exactly what you describe a post game mode that lets you use all your unlockables at full power from the beginning. Also IV's route exclusive stuff is a single unique midgame boss fight and different final "dungeon" (smaller than the castle btw) and assorted last bosses. Vengeance has an entirely different 3rd Act and different bosses on each route.
>>
>>3592739
I was really disappointed the level cap wasn't connected to an extra end game dungeon or something.
>>
I had fun with it, and I'd call it a solid but not amazing game.
For difficulty, I would say it's one of those games where, when you figure out what to do, it's way easier. Except for the super bosses. I lack the autism to take the time to minmax and beat them. Compare that to a series like Monster Hunter, where even if you know a monster's weaknesses, you still have to go through a long battle. As for the deemans system, I wish it had more depth and allowed you to do things like having equipment. I think Dragon Quest Monsters Joker also has more depth from the fusion mechanic, because the fused monsters in that will have a big influence on the stats and what skills are available.
The voice actors they got for the English dub seemed to fit for me. Also, for me, Vengeance improved the story overall. In the original, Dazai was the only character I would say had any sort of believable arc or depth. If you looked into what was written for Dazai, it makes sense why he turned out the way he did. His parents hate each other, he doesn't have a lot of friends, he's got acne (ugly), he's a goober, and a loser. So, it makes sense for him to put all his faith into one, all powerful being. Everyone else, especially Tao, is just there. However, I think Vengeance's ending doesn't fit the tone of an adult rated game, and that the original's endings had a bit more nuance to them.

Before this, I had never truly played an SMT game, and it made me want to try out the others. Do you think Miyazu likes Moon Knight?
>>
Game is fun, but lacks some of the ambiance and setting I would expect from a «true» SMT game.
>>
>>3591978
Damn bros. Vengeance is so good on PS5 I'm nearly in tears. Honest to goodness masterpiece tier now with these improvements.
>>
>>3593078
I really like the apocalypse setting. This might be the only game where I've actually felt like exploring every nook and cranny because navigation was actually interesting with some areas having a lot of verticality. I feel like all of the humor in the game is demons just being demons and okay with the state of things. Though I could see why some might like a darker tone.
>>
>>3592981
Not really keen on the law ending but I think the Chaos ending is great. I like how it comes full circle where the whole game revolves around original sin and the result is a world where there is no original sin. From a thematic point of view its the only ending that resolves the initial conflict (while the original true neutral resolves it in a mechanical way)
>>
>>3591978
I've only actually completed it on Creation since I wanted True Neutral done first before starting on Vengeance, and despite only just starting area 3 I can already tell Vengeance is better written. The school shooter arc is now the way I WISH it went the first time around.
>>
>>3592645
>Naho should be able to change his innate skill with essences.
I thought it was wierd that you can't change them when his innate skill is only good for like the first 5 hours of the game.
>>
>>3593363
>I like how it comes full circle where the whole game revolves around original sin and the result is a world where there is no original sin.
I'm not sure that's the take away, especially since that ending is recreating it's own version of it.
V's original sin is called the Condemnation and you're still going to exist as a Nahobino in the new world. Of course the Nahobino dynamic will likely no longer be a thing outside of the protag's case since it's a full restart, but the world as Lilith described in one of the dream cutscenes sounds very much like an aftermath of original sin where immortality is gone and all are born from the earth again.
I think the chaos ending is more about its namesake which is vengeance. That route is called the goddess of vengeance after all (Atlus West renamed it to Canon of Vengeance, who knows why), and that would be Yoko. She gets her revenge in that ending.
>>
>>3593547
Original Sin only exists because of the Horned God and the throne. Spiriting away knowledge and condemning humans for eating it, if the one responsible no longer exists in a new world then there is no one to call it a sin and no one to condemn them for it.
>>
>>3591978
CoV is still one of the worst plots in the series. CoC is right next to If... as the worst. Gameplay was... flexible? The innate skills were a good idea but the actual game is a boss rush and they're the most basic boss fights ever. They just attack, attack, bigger attack, repeat and then later on they like to swap to almighty spam when they get to half-health. A vit build with life drain can auto 95% of the fights, solo. I know because I did it on hard. If auto-skill would let you use healing spells, the game would be even more auto-able.

The best fight in the game is the Qadistu squad since it was one of the few to have any complexity due to juggling keeping the assists dead and figuring out which ones to focus on first.

Designs looked good. Didn't like the collectathon, time-waster world design. Side-quests included.

>Original Sin only exists because of the Horned God and the throne.
It exists in other worlds, like the one Lilith is from.
Regardless though, in the case of the chaos ending, the one being sided against is the Great Will. The antagonistic force of law Lucifer was fighting in III and carried over into V. What you do in the chaos ending is compatible to what Demi did to Kagutsuchi. Because it's a full break down of his cycle. Even if you break away from the cycle in other endings, you are still using the throne to do it. By not using the throne, you are breaking down his construct of order in your universe. In the eyes of the Great Will you'll likely still be damned. That's why the chaos ending shows original sin.
>>
>>3593596
YHVH is the one who spirited away the knowledge of the Gods and sealed it in the trea of knowledge. He's the one who condemned mankind from eating from the tree, original sin is his idea. The world born from the sea of chaos is one literally born free of original sin.

>B-but some other badguy from outside

Literally has nothing to do with Original Sin and the Fall of Man

>>
it's fine. i'm pissed I couldn't kill the two retard siblings who both tried to murder me. typical JRPG no meaningful choices
>>
>>3593728
Because the entire game revolved around original sin and the fall of man, so the final scene is the Garden of Eden in the new world where there is no fall of man, only Adam and "Lilith" leaving the garden of their own accord.
>>
>>3593827
That's not at all what that ending is depicting. Yoko's compendium even says she never became Lilith. Likewise, Lilith's compendium describes a usage of her outside of the Hebrew version. It's the occultist interpretation where she is a feminist icon fighting for equality and specifically denies Adam in every way. Even before release Doi talked about her design and said it was made to be purely opposed to Adam. In game her husband is Samael and she is firmly loyal to him (outside of sex because his penis was cut off). He'll talk about this in the demon haunt.
>>
>>3593363
While playing through SMT5, it did make me wonder if going neutral was the logical step. The way SMT5 presented the story, the gods and demons are going to be constantly scheming. So, it made me wonder about how much the series plays around with "what if humanity got buffed" or "what if the gods got nerfed." Law and chaos seemed like maintaining the status quo in the original story of 5.
>>3593790
I never saw that before, and I love it.
>>
>>3591978
Weakest mainline thus far
>>
Playing in the CoC route and I wonder how close I am to the end.

Just got the 3 Keys
>>
>>3594366
One last dungeon and then the boss rush to the end.
>>
>>3594366
>>3594374
The final dungeon is also really short and you can completely ignore the time stop gimmick. Just make sure to not progress after fighting Metatron if you want the good ending (you have to go fight and defeat Shiva for it) (and then choose a world for humanity alone).
>>
>>3594488
Yeah, I missed Shiva on my first playthrough because I thought I'd just be able to go back and beat him any time.
>>
>>3594488
the lock isn't at metatron. it's around when you beat abdiel iirc.
>>
When comparing law and chaos, I hated how Yoko just did not give a shit when Koshimizu gave his life to her, but Tao you can see how visibly upset she is. Koshimizu practically raised her. His life was really wasted on Yoko.
>>
>>3592645
yoko is hot as fuck
>>
>>3594528
On CoC the lock is entering the door behind Metatron and in CoV the lock is challenging Tiamat
>>
>>3594550
That does not make her a good character. Her choice is fundamentally based on giving up on the world, and it's implied the MC is only picking that choice because he's being an emo bitch over the robot. He understands why the world is unfair because he experienced loss like the oppressed do. Any option routed in giving up is always bad.
>>
>>3594863
It's not rooted in giving up, you only see it that way because you disagree with her solution from the start. Yoko's ending is fundamentally based on hope for a better future. Both alignment reps agree with the problems of the current system and believe their choice will make a better world, the disagreement is only on the method.

>Yoko's ending is fundamentally based on hope for a better future.
It really isn't and it's not about method. Lilith described what the world will look like when you restart it. All gods and humans will be equal. Remember the chaos choice in the base game that made every god equal? Pic related. No one was warring over the throne here, purely over ideology, because the Nahobino holds the throne permanently. You are making war world and Yoko knows complete freedom will do that. She even says what she's doing is for her revenge because the system hurt her. She is not purely out to help people. She is not a reliable narrator nor was Lilith when she said Tiamat abhorred violence, that was already obvious enough from their methods.
>>
>>3595021
>Remember the chaos choice in the base game that made every god equal? Pic related. No one was warring over the throne here, purely over ideology, because the Nahobino holds the throne permanently.
You mean specifically the route that isn't happening in the Yoko route at all and is entirely irrelevant? What you're doing is the equivalent of saying Tao's ending is based on giving up entirely because she doesn't believe anybody else can fix the world. Tao's given up on humans and demons naturally working things out together so she's imposing it with force, she does not believe in the goodness of potential of either.
You're twisting the meaning entirely to make Yoko look bad just like that. And you still haven't even explained why there being conflict in the new world means she's given up.
>>
>>3594488
when is the alignment lock in 5 CoC?
>>
>>3595054
>You mean specifically the route that isn't happening in the Yoko route at all and is entirely irrelevant?
Nothing that happens in the game is in a vacuum.
>Tao's given up on humans and demons naturally working things out together so she's imposing it with force
She said the direct opposite of this right after Mastema. She thinks with time everyone will work things out and she didn't say that had to be done by force either. The fact that there needs to be rules to maintain some kind of order is something she says outside of this. She's referring to people who want to be destructive and harmful Rules keep those people in check and she even makes a point that it's the only real reason you need to maintain some kind of order. That's just logical. Yoko was completely wrong in that argument with Kuldak.
>you didn't explain how Yoko is giving up
Because that's the philosophy. She stops you before Lilith to throw a metaphor at you about a painting. It's straightforward until she throws in a "the painting might still be salvageable". She is realizing that her own ideology is flawed and defeatist. Instead of trying to reconcile with this and come up with a solution, she just doubles down, like she is burying her own inner doubts. Tao on the other hand realizes her doubts on fixing the world and instead tries to provide a solution. It's not a perfect solution but it's one that realizes it's own faults. Yoko believes her ideology has no faults by the end and her doubts were just a moment of feeling misguided weakness. She can't pretend the faults she saw in her beliefs don't exist but that's exactly what she does.
>>
>>3595094
>Nothing that happens in the game is in a vacuum.
Sure. Explain how 0 gods is exactly the same as 1 god and multiple gods.

>She said the direct opposite
Yeah, that's what I said.

>She is realizing that her own ideology is flawed and defeatist. Instead of trying to reconcile with this and come up with a solution, she just doubles down, like she is burying her own inner doubts.
This is head canon. You claim she gives up on a solution, but her solution is basically resetting the world without the throne. You just discredited that solution as her giving up without reason to do that. Believing the current system is broken and that it needs to be changed isn't defeatist by any stretch, identifying the problem is literally the first step to fixing it and no different than what Tao has done. You claim Yoko is unique in doubting her ideology is perfect and still attempting to impose it on the world despite her doubts, but that's literally all Tao does throughout the entire game and even after she changes the world.
If Yoko was like you claim she'd just delete it all forever like the Whites or not do anything at all in the first place, why would somebody who gave up on the world go through the effort of destroying the current world only to then intentionally create the exact same world again? That's utterly retarded. You just sound very biased against Chaos honestly, which is obvious in hindsight considering you think the freedom they want is always akin to pure anarchy war world.
>>
holy shit, Shiva can fuck off and die because one messed up crit, it's game over due to that snake guy healing Shiva for like 22k HP
>>
>>3595163
>0 gods
They never said they were erasing gods. That's only the true neutral ending. Everything is reborn in the primordial void with a full reset. The promise is a new world where all gods and humans are equal.

>You just discredited that solution as her giving up without reason
I didn't. I think you forgot she says flat out her plan is still exactly the same as the Qadištu's. She changed nothing about it despite her doubts. Tao's plan is formed in consideration of her doubts. Tao attempted to find a middle ground, Yoko did not.
>>
>>3594863
>being hot does not make a good SMT party member
hard disagree. and who gets this hung up over the plot of a videogame? the "story" of SMT is all in the design and behavior of the demons and i love it
>>
>>3595383
>don't talk about the plot
For what purpose? You know all the stories are rooted in real mythology right? Aren't you curious how they use it? SJ alone is based off of an occult feminist rambling about mother earth goddesses for example. No one even knew about this bitch until Kaneko told everyone about her novels. SMT does some crazy shit with their stories when you dive even a little bit deeper into them.
>>
>>3595400
i love SMT and i appreciate the story when it's interesting, but video game plots are disappointing by default. it's a bunch of wacky shit that jap freaks come up with and then it's translated. it's ridiculous to get hung up on it when it makes no sense or seems absurdly forced because this will happen constantly. i'm around level 40 in vengeance and yoko and tao are extremely one-dimensional like virtually every character in a video game. the stuff you guys are arguing about isn't surprising to me, tao is ms goody-two-shoes and yoko is edgelord girl. their characterization could basically be summed up by their inverted resist/weak on light and dark and i'm fine with that
>>
>>3595432
Their characters make more sense, or perhaps more interesting at least, once you realize the myth they are referencing with both of them though.
>>
The MMO quest design is insulting and I hate that every overworld boss has a quest tied to it.
>>
>>3595089
Empyrean. You'll get a cutscene telling you what your choices are.

Just use the battle trainer. Omagatoki Luck, the Genma skill, doubles money. The last round on the high level series yields 100k macca. You can get even more from a random battle series but it's harder to control as you see with Atrract Pipe.

I don't have vengeance but I have the original smtv. I was rather enjoying it until I got to the fourth area, taito. It just seems so grindy having enemies lvl 50-72 all in the same area. It was alot more fun exploring the other areas in the game. I especially like area 3...and area 1 because back in area 1 I was naive enough to think each are woild be different aesthetically. Instead there all the same sandy post apocalypse with different colored filters for each area (lame).

I also miss when skill transfer was rng based sorta. Like back in the ps2 days. Being able to pick skills makes puts my brain into min max overload trying to figure out the optimal skill spread. I liked when the computer picked for me better. Plus I just think it gives balancing issues to the overall gameplay that hasn't been resolved since they where introduced in IV
>>

The fusion in V is especially tedious. In 3 for instance you can have favorite demons, like daisojou (sp, you know the dude with the chimes), stick with you for a long time. But thanks to the weird level scaling system in the original V demons become kinda shit very quick and you have to constantly replace them. Really tiresome.

Just finished CoV Law route. I've still got Satan and Shiva to deal with but I'm not really sure what I should be doing to get my team from the mid 80s to max level. Do I fuckin just grind the virtual trainer over and over?

Also regarding my ng+ run for CoC: should I just wait until beating satan to do the run in Godborn? Going through the game raping everything with my team doesn't sound too fun
>>
>>3592032
wait, vengeance changes the level scaling? so the games difficulty isn't based on just outlevelling the next boss? damn. I beat one of the super bosses and then the 2nd DLC super boss that is a protagonist from another game, I couldn't defeat him as easily.

Is this going to be changed in vengeance? like is vengeance easier or harder late game? Also, do i have to buy vengeance if i already have the original version?
>>
>>3597153
Vengeance is definitely easier.
>>
I've had the original for a whole now and have only just started playing it. I just beat Shohei in Akihabara and while I want to say I'm mostly liking it I can't say I'm a fan of all these side quests the game keeps asking me to do. The game's a lot of busy work and I want to get on with it but I hate purposely skipping shit. Moreover the current area lay out is kind of a pain to get around.
>>
>>3597287
Every problem you're having got a fix in Vengeance. More varied quests, and added shortcuts for easier navigation.
>>
>>3597150
You should have around 15 gospels from just exploring, there are a bunch of set encounters with Nigi Mitama. Shiva will get you at least 4 levels when you beat him from his quest reward too, and you can beat him at level 80 no problem.
>>
>>3597440
That's all well and good but it hardly helps my current situation.
>>
>>3597440
No it isn't. 90% of the sidequests still suck.
>>
>>3597608
It went from 100% to 90%. That's still an improvement.
>>
>>3597153
>Also, do i have to buy vengeance if i already have the original version?
lol
>>
>>3598778
yes, you have to re-buy it
>>
>>3597803
I think a lot of sidequests are great and have really cool boss fights at the end
>>
Problem I had with the original was having to do shitty platforming and search everywhere for the collectibles tied to power. Finding 1/200 of something isn't enjoyable compared to finding actual equipment.
Demon variety seemed limited presumably due to graphics, did that increase?
>>
>>3599581
They added 40 or so new demons to the game.
>>
>>3599552
But a lot of them are the same quest over again. There is no getting around that.

>>3600388
That's a fair assessment, but flavor text makes up the majority of what makes a quest unique in just about any game western or eastern.
>>
>>3591978
They just rereleased the same game with a half assed additional content. Why can’t developers release a finished game outright rather than releasing patch/improvements later on?
>>
>>3600597
Most people who played the additional content didn't find it half assed.

>>3600629
Why couldn’t atlas have made SMTVI instead of “remaking” a game that was only 3 years old.
>>
>>3600973
It's pretty clear the original game didn't do everything they wanted to do, plot wise. Gameplay wise, they just made changes based on comments they saw online.

Back then you had original artsy people working for that company. People with a strong artistic vision and the engine and recourses to do a bunch of stuff and as happens with most companies like this, new people come in who come in and simply attempt to cash in on the existing audience instead of attempting something bold or creative. All modern SMT shit just feels like corporate anime slop made by people who just want to appeal to consumers

Innate skills are great and adds the complexity the press turn system need and now is the JRPG yu-gi-oh equivalent.
Demon Haunts are a cool addition, especially by having demons for (You).
Both new routes being tied to waifus that are for (You) is great.
My main issue is how aside from a few landmarks and Miman trivia it lacks the Tokyo feel, I think this is the one aspect I feel that SMT IV did better.
Dungeons also feel lackluster since there isn't resource management nor randomness to it.
It really need a better way to skip cutscenes for replayability.
Great game, it probably is going to be my favorite game to come out this year.
>>
>>3601398
>Both new routes being tied to waifus that are for (You) is great.
If this is the main reason you like the new story then you should know it's incorrect. Tao was your sister and Yoko was a snake goddess sent by Samael to tempt the protag, reinforcing he is an Eve insert in the story besides other dialog in the game basically saying the same. He cares about everyone but Aogami is mainly the character the MC cares about over everything else which is what kicks off the revenge plot mid game. There is even a demon that suggests he's in love with him in a side quest. The characterization of the MC can't be ignored because it's also part of the story. It's fine to interpret the game any way you want outside of the canon, but if it's why you like the new story, you need to judge it based on the material that's really there. The story is no longer narrative lite enough to come up with interpretations when a lot has been explained with new dialog now. That was the point of the new story, to fill in the gaps of the old story.
>>
>>3591978
The franchise has been dead since IV released. Kaneko and Cozy made it what it is. It is now masquerading its corpse as the real thing, a simulacrum of SMT. Doi has gotten better but his art is still shit compared to Kaneko. Some of the music is decent, but what's the point if the games are shit now?
>>
>>3601595
>Tao was your sister
This only makes my dick harder
>and Yoko was a snake goddess sent by Samael to tempt the protag
And she did a good job, I can't even get mad at her dumb plan because of her snakepussy.

It's refreshing to see someone not throw a fit over the game's canon when you remind them who Tao is. Carry on based coomer.

>>
>>3602935
I'm just saying, they should've revived Asahi in bonds route but kept her a husk while Massacre reviving should've had her full aware of what's happening.
I mean you can still keep bonds route happy by making it so she's starting to return back to normal but otherwise there's literally NO fucking in game reason for Nanashi to do the massacre route. At least there should've been some sort of "try to explain to your party to let you do things your way" "they won't budge, they'll make you give the egg or whatever by force" then yeah. SMT IV and IVA was great but I wish there was a better blend between the two writing styles.

asahi and nanashi are so fucking wholesome and I wish we got another SMT game with you and a childhood friend exploring post apocolyptic tokyo and getting traumatized.
>>
>>3602936
>there's literally NO fucking in game reason for Nanashi to do the massacre route
This. Nanashi was not a blank slate MC, no more than Flynn was. They are self inserts but they were given characters. If Flynn picked the white ending, it was because they appealed to his grief and the death of Issachar. Likewise in V, Yoko appeals to Vkun's grief over Aogami when she tells him the new world won't allow demons to suffer. Nanashi picks the massacre route because uhhh, lmao murder.
>>
>>3602935
More SMT games need to be that retarded
>>
>>3603019
It's not even technically a "murder choice", it's I'm going to take control of the holy mcgruffin and the other party members were like NUH UH FUCK YOU ILL KILL YOU but then it's presented as the edgiest choice and I get it's a betrayal but it's so unnecessary to take a reasonable choice and make it super edgy for no reason.
>>
>>3603346
You played the inferior version, you fucking retard. They ruined the art, added a bunch of shit new music, a gay oc new character (in typical Atlus fashion, a STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN who is aggressive as her entire personality) and terrible new story beats that all revolve around said new character. It's gutted and soulless, like almost every single remaster in existence.
>>
>>3603358

That only works in hindsight because the writers were bad but at that moment Nanashi had no reason to think anyone but Dagda could bring Asahi back for him. He's the reincarnated Akira who went through hell to save his sister(and failed every time). It only falls flat because the new writers wussed out to make some golden end shit. Dagda was right.
>>
>>3603665
>Nanashi had no reason to think anyone but Dagda could bring Asahi back for him. He's the reincarnated Akira who went through hell to save his sister(and failed every time)
Right, but like you said they made no effort with this. Not to mention, all the romantic implications shits on this too. He didn't see Asahi as a sister even though that was the point since they grew up together. She was basically his gf they were just too young and stupid to make it offical before shit hits the fan. He had no biological sister.

>>
>>3605054
I don't know what to tell you anon. I was actually introduced to Shin Megami Tensei by my best friend in college. He turned out to be incredibly gay. I don't mean that as an insult. I mean the kind of gay that causes you to leave your kid and wife to have sex with men kind of gay. These games have always been gay. I like them now, but maybe in a few decade I'll catch the gay from these games too.
>>
>>3605094
Your anecdote has nothing to do with the series going downhill, it's because they're just parading the corpse of their formerly popular franchise. It's like this for everything that was "passed on" to the new generation of designers. This feels like an AI prompted SMT if you told the AI what SMT was, then appended it with appealing to modern audiences.
>>
>>3605054
Your post makes me glad SMTV ended up being just as gay as you think the Nahobino design is. SMT has always been alternative and occult. Gay shit is part of that and always was. Soul hackers had a tranny. P2 had a gay romance route. Tokyo Revelations was a gay man turning into a woman to fuck Masakado. You have no idea what the "roots" of the series is. You probably played Nocturne and SJ and you think that makes you an expert.
>>
>>3605163
Spoken like a true retard. It was never "for gays" just because it is occult. If anything, it makes fun of the occult. None of the games you listed are even SMT, they are broadly Megaten.
>P2
The so-called gay romance is literally a few lines of dialogue and isn't canon.
>Soul Hackers
I haven't played SH, but lol if you think that character isn't a joke.
>In the Soul Hackers strategy guide, illustrator Kazuma Kaneko states that "[She/He is/was] a man. Moreover, a really old man. I think, but I don't really know. (laughs)"* (「男。しかもすっごいじじいですよ……と僕は思ってるけど、ホントのところはわかんない(笑)」
Lmao.
>Tokyo Revelation
Not even a game, but a fucking OVA.
You "people" are so fucking pathetic, shoehorning your ideology into everything. I'm glad the franchise is dead if this is the kind of retard that it attracts now. Cozy and Kaneko were what gave it life. Now all you have is people trying to emulate that instead of being its own thing.

Masayuki Doi strolls into the meeting and presents picrel as the concept he’s been working on for the male protagonist in the upcoming SMT game
>”Just wait, I haven’t even told you the best part yet…ok get this, he transforms and his hair gets really long like a girl and he changes into a SKIN TIGHT BODY SUIT! Cool huh?”

How do you respond?
>>
>>3605504
Actually V was supposed to have a female protag. Doi or Yamai (likely both) had asked to make V a femMC game and were told no by some "old guard" at Atlus before V production started. There is an interview out there where Doi complained about this not long after IVA came out. If you played V, you can see quite easily tell this game was supposed to have a male/female duo as the main characters as ever other Nahobino pair in the game is like that. Clearly, instead of changing the plot they turned the MC into a femboy and changed practically nothing else.
>>
>>3605474
Faggot cope, this is just an interview and they don't even say that outright either. Plus the canon ending has nothing to do with that, since EP continues as it does.

That's definitely not true. All the old interviews are excited about MC being a boy. And there's no male/female rule for Nahobino, Tsukuyomi also has male human counterpart.
>>
>>3605538
>All the old interviews are excited about MC being a boy.
They have to be excited, all those interviews were about promoting the game. Doi said he would have liked V to have a female protag but there are people at Atlus firmly against it. The only way that could be true is if someone pitched the idea at some point, either him or Yamai and were shot down.
And there is only one other m/m pair and it is the one that directly mirrors the main pair for story reasons and that's it. A mirror that wouldn't exist if the main pair wasn't m/m.

My lazy distracted ass has really been lagging with the game, partly because I did already play the original twice. Just now almost done with Shinagawa.
Still overall I'm enjoying the changes. Qadistu theme fucks, demon haunts are fun. I'm fully committing to filling my party with exclusively hot guy demons this time rather than just the main three I used in the original.

If Atlus includes platforming in the next major SMT game, they have to make it better. They don't have to go full on Mario 64, but they should at least make the traversal more fun. Wall jumps at the minimum.
Also, I think they should make another Devil Survivor style combat game. There's not that many turnbased tactical /mon/ games. Off the top of my head, the only one I can think of is Pokemon Conquest, and maybe Mystery Dungeon if you really want to stretch it.

I may like using full teams of hot demons, but dating needs to stay the hell away from SMT.
Not only would it just be shittily writing like all these mechanically-implemented relationships, it would end up be limited to the non-demon cast and maybe a few of the noteworthy demons in the story. It could theoretically play around with alignments, but I doubt that'd end up well for any number of reasons.

Vengeance story is neat after playing through the regular one, has some cool moments.wish we got to play as the new form for a little longer though, Yoko is a bit stupid
Some innate abilities are very fun, a few downright broken but that's fine
Personally liked the atmosphere of other SMT games more, also don't like the 2-3 dungeons at all.
Godborn playthrough felt a bit too easy after the extra-bosses like Demi-Fiend and Satan
Final-Boss should've gotten another upgrade if you beat Satan and Demi-Fiend
>>
>>3608945
The only problem with Vengeance is the dungeons. The combat isn't great but every game has issues with that. The story is also quite good. There is a lot of detail in it and plenty to dig into if you pay attention. But the dungeons are just so fucking awful. They are short and poorly designed. The puzzles suck, and running past enemies makes them even shorter. They need to fix this more than anything going forward with the series.
>>
Just beat Metatron in SMT Vanilla. Disappointingly easy and the dungeon itself felt kind of phoned in. Time to make my choice I suppose but to be frank I'm not sure I really like any of my options. Japanese Richie Cunningham is too much a dweeb no matter how he slicks his hair back and Glasses-kun has been frankly a non entity character wise. I guess I can go neutral but that always feels like a cop out.
>>
>>3608488
>>3608825
Frankly I think it could go either way. It starts with hitomi but that line becomes very blurred by the end of the game.
>>
>>3609126
Neutral is actually the fun choice, Law and chaos are inoffensive while Neutral is turning the world into SMT1 hellscape and true Neutral is total demon genocide.

Regular neutral skips the final boss though.
>>
>>3609508
>criteria to get true neutral is to do all the sidequests that show humans and demons can live together.
>LOL NUKE THEM ALLL AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
what the fuck?
>>
>>3609555
V-kun is portrayed as loving demons and not really caring much for his human life. You can see that in how Da'at is portrayed in vibrant color and all the demons lovingly rendered while Tokyo is a dreary place with muted colors and all the human NPCs are faceless.

The true ending is one where V-kun accepts his role as a pillar and sacrifices his own happiness for the sake of humans. It is the ending that most befits a God, and shows you the sort of hard existence YHVH had, it's lonely at the top.
>>
>>3609555
>>3609563
Also you are basically only nuking Aogami. Demons can never die, and they continue to exist outside of your world. You basically just gave them the boot. Aogami however is unique. If you erase him he's gone for good.

I agree with that as well, mainly since hitomi starts to get less focus later in the game. Can't remember when the game pushes Nemissa on you directly, maybe I missed a scene or two.

I just wish the characters where explored better. Most of them just get some second hand explanation as to why they believe what they believe but you never really see any of it first hand. It almost feels like they barely even have any presence till suddenly I'm supposed to accept they do. Maybe I just overlooked something, I'm trying to not use any guides, but it sort of feels a bit empty. I know SMT isn't really the PLOT series but a few more chances to actually talk to people before making a choice wouldn't have been unappreciated. Anyways Nuwa best girl.
>>
Well just finished the regular neutral route. I didn't feel like doing any more extra shit to get the super neutral route. Tsukiyomi was really easy and I'm not even all that great at building demons. He's embarrassingly weak to fire. Anyways I guess everyone is gonna be left to own mess and fight it out. That's sort of funny. Look on the monk dude's face was totally worth passing up divinity. Honestly forgot he was even still around.
>>
>>3609768
CoV explains everything already in CoC but more blatantly.
When Aogami dies in true neutral, it was like a gut punch for the MC but it's not that easy to tell unless you read into the ending theme and see his expression between his earthly counterpart and the one ruling the world. In CoV, they drill into you that he's a mess after the sacrifice and the only thing keeping him going is a thirst for revenge. He's just as upset in true neutral.
The same goes for the other characters. Yuzuru protects Tokyo on his sister's behalf. That's implied in CoC but he says it outright in CoV. Dazai on the other hand had plenty of development in CoC so in CoV they jump ahead, instead they make Abdiel act on her disdain for the Nahobino and show just how much she's willing to listen to anything Dazai says. They show how important Yuzuru was to Koshimizu and how important he was to Miyazu.
>>
>>3609856
Problem is the original wasn't lacking things being blatant some of this shit was practically non existent.
>>
>>3609923
Not really. Miyazu explains Yuzuru said goodbye to her off screen and said he needed to protect Tokyo for her and everyone else if you talk to her in the fairy haunt. He told her to wait in the fairy village because it was safe in the meantime. I wouldn't call that non-existent you just have to bother to go over there and talk to her. In fact, I think you see to see her say that to trigger the Khonsu quest line.
>>
>>3610093
He does everything off screen. And I did talk to her. Having one (pointless) character saying what amounts to lip service doesn't make an engaging foil.
>>
>>3610213
Hence why I said more blatant. That's not the same as it not being there at all.

What dungeons? It's not a dungeon crawler. The dungeons that are there are better than IV.
>>
>>3614507
SMT is literally a dungeon crawler series. This was the whole point.
>>
>>3614532
NTA but every area of V is a 3D dungeon, they are always danger zones designed with labyrinthine paths and plenty of midbosses and hidden treasure on the way to the big boss in the end. Structurally the game is very similar to Strange Journey (And EO by extension) where you have a home base you adventure to different sectors from.

Also amongst the 3D games, I would say the 3 (4 with the school) "traditional" dungeons in V are about par or slightly worse than Nocturne but better than IV and DDS 2 (with DDS1 still having the best dungeons of the 3D games).
>>
>>3614719
The maps are not structured like dungeons at all, especially now that they took away the abyss blocking the mini map. There are no puzzles and they are easy to navigate and no maze like at all. It's always clear what the path forward is and alternate paths are short and lead to a treasure box a majority of the time.
>>
>>3609563
Nah, it's the secret bad ending that requires extra steps to get.
>>
>>3591978
The music nice.
The doimons are just waifus again. Lilith isn't that bad though.
The dungeon they replaced the shit dungeon with is only slightly less shit but still fucking horrible.

they made the party building substantially more fun and I liked running themed teams across the various cycles to try and squeeze some life out of it. But, the balance is still impossibly shit.
I don't even think it was planned this time. Like Masakado being such a heavy lifter is obviously a design but Gog, Arioch, etc I'm pretty sure they had no fucking clue what they were doing again.

Replayability still fucking sucks ass. I shouldn't be reaching back to fucking WoFF for a NG+ mode that doesn't break in the end game this hard.
They've been in this game for decades. This still shouldn't be something they're fucking struggling to do.
Godborn is unbelievably shit as a difficulty and if it was going to be that poorly they should have just outright delayed the feature and hired somebody who knows what they're doing.

It's a package that looks nice and sounds nice. But fucking Devil Children has more of a bite than this game.
I swear these games are getting progressively less attention to the actual mechanics as time goes on.

It’s a good game but a mediocre Megaten game.
Gameplay is fun, overall - it’s just a bit annoying by how nerfed the buffs/debuffs are with each new passing Megaten game. The real drawback is the atmosphere, last good SMT games on that front were 3 and SJ.

Before you say something even more inhumanely retarded like "i-it should have had everything and been on all systems from the b-beginning" you're just admitting to being as utterly clueless as a 5 year old.

You're as much of a tranny as the MC. Take your meds.
I'm not rebuying the same game that I finished on the Switch.

>new
They've been doing this shit since Nocturne. That said, the franchise has been dead since IV. IVA is especially bad.

>>3619010
>deflects like the retard he is when his retardation is pointed out to it
Grow a spine, idiot. If you can't handle being told you're an idiot when you say something stupid then stay off the internet.
Come back when you actually have an argument and a brain. Idiots like you deserve no respect, only disdain for shitting up the boards. But go ahead and make another deflection post, since you're too emotionally fragile to do otherwise.

I mean. His main point is that they're charging full price for it. This was clearly a budget re-release and Atlus financial practices for the last decade have indeed been abhorrent.

Regardless of how much of an Atlus fan a single person can be. I bought VV on the switch like a good little bitch and the Mitama DLC has to be purchased again. That's nonsense.

>I mean. His main point is that they're charging full price for it.
?
Enhanced port with multiple fixes, more content, another story path and more. This is easily justifiable. Why exactly would they slice the price by half or something. If all you can muster a meek is "b-but it's a port" then don't even bother replying.

>This was clearly a budget re-release
No it wasn't. A budget one would be pretty much a straight up port only.

The fact that you mongoloids think this is somehow new makes you come across as toddlers with no grasp of videogame history. It's not even some secret knowledge or even uncommon. We're not even just talking ports, but actual re-releases. In this instance it's not even a bad port scenario, but one of the better examples of it.

If you're gonna whine and complain, at least do it about the right things. Otherwise no one with a brain will take you seriously.
>>
>>3619273
>think this is somehow new
Literally WHERE the fuck did I state that? Where? What the fuck do you see with your eyes?

I said the pricing sucked a bit and I listed the reason;
That getting VV on the same console (which I did) you still have to buy the mitama dlc again. Which is bullshit.

You haven't addressed any part of that.
>enhanced port with multiple fixes
So most modern ports? SFII remastered added more content. Minstrel Song added more content. Neither are charging the same as a full price game.

And given how you're coming. I don't give a shit about your retort. Shut the fuck up.

>Literally WHERE the fuck did I state that? Where? What the fuck do you see with your eyes?
Mongoloid >>3618563 , it's literally what was being directly replied to
>this new industry practice
Before you shit your pants and say "uuuh, I never said that because it's other anon", you're the one that replied to a reply directly responding to that, nimrod.

>I said the pricing sucked a bit and I listed the reason;
Reason being "b-but it's a port", brilliant case. Try justifying it better next time if you don't want to be regarded as an idiot.

>So most modern ports?
Except it's not you shitsniffer. Most ports are bad and poorly optimized or barely touched. Nintendo is infamous for charging full price for OLDER basically untouched ports and you're going on about SMTVV somehow being the industry standard way? Nice joke. It got way more work done to it by far compared to most ports released.

>SFII remastered added more content
WOW RETARD, YOU'RE EVEN ILLITERATE. Now that's really fucking impressive. You actually, unironically didn't even fucking notice the word "remastered" and it being a remaster of an old game... yet you conveniently ignored the very same SF2 that showed that shit was fucking way worse before and it's not fucking new.

Dumb cunts like you should not be allowed to interact with human beings, since you don't even qualify as one with how inhumanely brain dead you are.

Objectively speaking it's a better game retard-kun.

I honestly think it still isn't a great game. I somehow just don't like the vibes, not even the gameplay is that fun. the world just isn't interesting to explore. I hate how Tokyo is separate from daat. SMTIV was simply so much more fun and immersive.

IV/A and VV have different atmospheres, Retard.
They're going for entirely different takes on a post-apocalyptic world.

That being said, if you didn't like the light cyberpunk atmosphere IV/A had, you have a ginormous shit taste and should kill yourself immediately because you're a blight on mankind.

New?
Ah yes, (You).

If by trash you mean that it's an overall improvement (as a videogame, and then there's the natural improvement that comes from being ported to more capable hardware than the Fisher Price Tablet possesses), then yes, you're right.

I don't like that it was a bad copy of the games that did it better (I and II).

I'm playing on hard (1st playthrough) and I kinda lost all motivation to play. I'm supposed to defeat the irish swordmaster guy Fion mac Cum and he's just too strong; he hit for 350 with his namesake attack without any buffs...
I can get him to 50% hp before he one shot me or maragilao (or something similar) my entire team
I'd grind but it takes ages because of the animation and regular Kelpie sometime one shot me too.
>>
Disappointing that they made a second bad story instead of fixing the bad original one
>>
>>3623231
How did you even get past the hydra without figuring out how to deal with things like that?
Did you just grind enough to brute force it?
>>
>>3623705
SMTV was never a bad story.
>>
>>3623850
Something needs to have a story for it to be bad.
>>
>>3623894
Good thing it did.
>>

Regular team setup for the entire franchise is two attackers, one healer, one support. Sometimes you do two supporters for tough fights like True Demon Ending Nocturne but that's the general rule. I beat him with a meme luck build though and swapped to a PURE VIT GOD build after that.
>>
>>3623850
I never understood this. It is a sparse story, by design even. But it was always interesting, I like the whole idea of the vacant throne of God and all the Gods vying for a chance to save the world from impending doom.
>>
>>3624178
I like all the characters, the Nahobino concept, and how they used Susano-o mythology to tell the story.
