Supcom is basically the unsurpassed template that games like BAR aspire to. It's only real issue at this stage is being a dated 32bit game that can easily hit performance issues when there's a lot of players in a game or a lot of stuff on the map.

i found artillery vs artillery much more satisfying, me and a buddy would just ban tech 3 and the games would become 200x more interesting and chess like, if we do tech 3, itll be no nukes/game enders, and on maps with no water

It's similar but BAR is played more zoomed in and plays more like TA. BAR has some different mechanics, for example ground radar is affected by terrain and it has unit resurrection. I was cynical at first but fukken hell it feels good being able to play the game at decent fps in the late game but even BAR has performance issues past 5k units which happens in 8v8 matches.

Some people are like that.

I remember playing a 2v1 with two brothers, they asked for a 15 minute no rush timer. As soon as the timer was over I shrecked them with a couple czars. They got pissed, absolutely hit the roof.
