Thanks to all for keeping homescreen threads going all the way to #200. Feel free to let us know how we can improve the threads or homescreens.org either here or in the IRC channel.

I got a Fold 2 (probably going to get some flack for it but I never spoil myself, and it's the first time I've felt "in awe" of tech in years) and use a Windows Phone/tile styled setup for when it's unfolded, then standard phone style for the outside screen when folded. Windows tiles work great for tablets/big square screens in my case

Icon pack?
>>
Sorta early WIP.
But damn, I've been spending so much time obsessing about making something unique and complex, that I totally forgot how nice a simple rice can be.
Not sure if I like how the right justified text looks, but having it closer to my thumb is practical. Also if anyone got suggestions for a better font, I'm happy to hear them.
>>7692916
>Feel free to let us know how we can improve the threads or homescreens.org
I stopped bugging noise about it, but I'd still love the thread reviews to come back some day.
Though I understand that the effort might not feel worth it, to make an hour long video that only a handful of weirdos are going to watch.
They did really help me get better with rices though, hence why I like them so much.
>>7692921
I've never listened to an Album of theirs, but this looks how I imagine t+p sounds.
It's pretty hard to make something look messy and good at the same time, I wouldn't use this myself, bit it's neat to look at. Big fan of all the moving parts.
>>7692945
>>7693175
Very cool. Dunno how useful this actually is (especially being able to move the windows around) but I definitely appreciate the novelty of it.
I think the grey of the date is a bit to dark, but could just be my screen. Either way, well done, mein Freund.
>>7693434
Better then many beginners who post here, bit there are certainly some improvements that can be made, here are a few things you could try to clear the visual clutter:
>Disable icon labels
You know what they are, you don't need extra text to tell you
>Get rid of the folder or give it a proper icon
Folders tend to look out of place, especially if you have a consistent icon pack
>Consider getting rid of the bottom icon bar by placing those icons on the actual homescreen.
Depending on your use case you might not want to do this, but I think it tends to look better
>Disable the app drawer and page indicators
You don't need those, trust me
>Try giving the clock roundes corners
Might look shit though dunno
>>
>>7693434
>>7693545
Ran out of character space but wanted to add that you might also not want your icons to overlap with your wallpaper. I think if the top row was gone it would be able to stand out a little better.
And keep in mind to take everything I say with a grain of salt, I wouldn't consider myself an expert at this either.
>>
>>7692935
Pls any bro can help out?
>>
>>7693528
It's called Borealis

>>7693545
Thank you for the thoughtful suggestions! Disabling icon names does look a lot better, and I'm playing around with positioning and widgets, too. What launcher and widget are you using on your setup? The clean lines and minimal style look really good, looks like a good WM setup on desktop.
>>
>>7693596
Me, and almost everyone who posts good looking rices here, uses KLWP. It's a live wallpaper that gives you quite a lot of options for customization.
The only paid feature as far as I know is the import function, so just get the free version and play around with it, it's mostly very self explanatory. Trying copying a rice you like tends to be a good way to get started with it.
As for launchers, it doesn't really matter. I only use it to have a basic app drawer and some gestures.
I know that noise for example uses total launcher so he can do stuff like >>7692921 with his apps, but I have no experience with that.

And I can only come up with shit like this. I hate that you can see the pixels in the borders of the notification bar due top the resolution of the image, but at least you can't see them at bare sight when using the phone.

>i'd mess around with the list spacing
Oh fuck you're right, I totally didn't notice.
>maybe i will do some solo tr or something
Would be dope, though as I said I understand why making them might not be a top priority
Also funny that you would post that rice, because while searching for a simple design, I did consider to just copy that one for a while.
>>7693762
>maybe too barebone in my opinion
Yeah I was desperately needing a new screen and because I constantly kept coming up with way to complicated ideas that I ended up abandoning halfway through, I'm glad I finally just made something that I could make look good and functional quickly.
I'm planning to add some animations and maybe some music stuff later on though.

Newbie question, moving from IOS to Android and really loving the customization options

Is there a way to make a third party music player widget correspond to an individual app? Like, can I have one widget be for youtube music while another one be for my podcasts? Aside from the widgets that come with the apps themselves, of course.
I'm willing to fool around with kwgt if it's simple enough
>>
>>7696662

Have a bit of an idea. In KLWP/KWGT you can set the preferred music player. If you use both I guess you could set one to YouTube music and one to your podcasts

scrcpy works, but i find it easier to just suck it up and do it on the phone, interacting with klwp through scrcpy is just super clunky imo.

very simplistic, not a very nice font, and no real consistency. try thinking about the the padding and margins of the things you have on your screen, itll probably make things look a lot tighter. For the font i would change it to a sans-serif (or maybe a nice serif to go with the mountain?). Finally dropping the j2k from tachiyomi would probably make it look neater, unless you like the full name.
>>7697320
the date is pretty hard to see on either background, why not box that in too? imo its pretty boring but atleast its consistent.

>>
Can anyone please let me know how to use all these cool icoms amd themes? I am not able to find any guides or tutorials for Android.
>>
>>7698730
Most themes here are made on KLWP (check the app store). The free version allows you to use all functionality beside importing other people's presets.

If KLWP is used, it is usually an image in KLWP with an on-touch action to launch that app

Else, if you use a launcher you can usually just directly edit what icon is used on an app in the app drawer or home screen

Anything that looks significantly different is either a specific launcher from the app store or something built with flutter

I've been looking at ricing for quite some time now and I think it's about time a start. I've used KWGT and KLWP free editions on my non-rooted OnePlus 3T.

I've figured that since it's already well past warranty I might aswell root it and put on a custom ROM. I'm just afraid to brick it. Here are some questions:

Safe way to root/unlock bootloader?
Any fallback if install fails?
What custom ROM's do you prefer? (I was thinking Arrow OS for the minimalism but also enjoy customizability)
Thougts on substratum? (And should I just buy KLWP/KWGT?)

Just google these to find guides for your phone

TWRP backups help as long as you don't wipe storage. Even if you do, you can transfer your files from PC and start over
>What custom ROM's do you prefer? (I was thinking Arrow OS for the minimalism but also enjoy customizability)
Check the xda threads for your phone to see what other people use. Most people go with Lineage but I'd say crDroid and Resurrection Remix are worth trying out for customizability
>Thougts on substratum? (And should I just buy KLWP/KWGT?)
I never really used substratum because finding what fits with my homescreen is hard and making my own themes is even harder. Paid KLWP/KWGT allows importing other people's presets which imo isn't that important when learning but it's nice to be able to switch between your themes

KLWP/KWGT should be your best option. Remember to set Spotify as your media player in settings if that's the only music player you use and it shouldn't open any other app when you use the controls

The goal's for you to make your own widget in KWGT since it'll be tailored to your own needs. It's likely you had to do a bit more tinkering with the presets you got from the Play Store to get it working as you intended. Easier to just DIY and know the intended behaviors
