Solitude EditionThis thread's theme is that feeling of comfy solitude. Images that make you think of those quiet moments where it feels like nobody else is around and you've got time to be alone with your thoughts.Feel free to post any that you think fit the theme, only real photographs though please.

Don't have many pictures to go with the theme this time, but I do like it, I have to look for something a bit different This one might be the most appropriate, for me at leastLots going on with it on the personal sideAs always, great thread!
>>7722233Nice. I believe I downloaded your folder of pics from Japan but this one is obviously not Japan. Do you have other folders shared somewhere?
>>7722245
>>7722276
>>7722297
>>7722245Thanks, this was in Amsterdam, and I haven't uploaded that folder anywhere (I only have 5 or 6 photos from there worth posting here), but I do have a Finland folder available here: https://mega.nz/fm/2tZnSCjZNot exactly the kind of things you usually post, more woods than cities there!
>>7722304And I forgot to add an image, can't lose an opportunity to post a few of these for once
>>7722305I especially don't think they resonate with solitude, but some of them are nice, though a tad grainy
>>7722306Found this one in the folder, from right before I left I assume, fits the theme a bit better

I can't describe the feeling I get from some of these pictures. I have vague old memories from when I was a kid. I was sick in bed, in a friend's house. The sun's rays were shooting through the white curtains. I was all alone but I haven't felt happier.

What is it about a tasteful blur and a little film grain that makes these photos so evocative of memory and nostalgia? How can I have such nostalgia for things I never actually experienced? Some of these photos you can almost smell how it would smell to be there.
>>7723617
>>7723621It gets discussed in the "liminal space" stuff, though I think it's a sub element of that, the "Fernweh"/nostalgia by proxy thing, I think it's that those images contain a set of features that each permeate in a given area in time and space due to, and in turn influencing, culture and technology, that we experienced different parts of but had those common themes and features across the whole. I like to analogize that we each have out own procedurally generated experience narrative, each is unique but each largely built from the same set of asset pools, thus we can look at a moment from someone else's experiences and feel a both alien but distinctly familiar flavor.
>>7723621I feel like if you're a certain age and looking through all of your parents and grandparents photo albums, most of their photos would have had this grainy, more often than not blurry, and desaturated look to them. The photos look aged and thus mimic a time of when you experienced older times via personal photography. At least that's my approach.
sad yet comfy/solitude
same scene but much more hopeful. both make me feel solitude but not loneliness, and the space is pretty open
similar again
>>7723621I think the way the light is captured is very important. A small depth of focus gives it that tasteful blur which in turn really captures the lighting and atmosphere of a certain scene. And to me I guess that's just what I consider good photography - when it can evoke the feeling of what it's like to really be there in that moment. Making it feel as if you've been there and experienced it, even if you haven't.

specific request, but does anyone have a hyper realistic oil painting of a winters night in a suburban /almost rural town in the American North East I think it was. The night sky was an unbelievable shade of purple. My phone got its shit smashed in and I lost my images because I stupidly didn't back up my images. its been my wallpaper for years

>>7730946I've had this picture saved for years and I finally just discovered where it was taken. Obviously it's Manhattan but it was taken from an apartment on 36th St between Park and Lexington
>>7731192Wondered the same since I first saw it. Thanks for the info. Also, what kind of camera setup do you use for your photos?
>>7731194This >>7721667 is the only picture in this thread that I actually took myself. I do post my own sometimes in these threads but most are just other people's photos that I've saved. But I use an old Sony DSLR that I was given as a gift with a Minolta lens from an old Minolta film camera that I also use sometimes.
>>7721084 Fuck bros as someone who is living in a car for over 5 months I am just craving a dark room Cool room
>>7721084>>7721084I read what you described and thought: that's most of the time isn't it? Then suddenly I looked up and saw how wonderful the place where I'm currently living is. In the past 5 years I haven't lived anywhere for longer than a couple months and recently moved into a place where I can stay half a year. Pic related.
oligarch how did you get so insanely based
>>7721477Dude, this is what I've been looking for. Thanks!
>>7723842This is from Everlasting Summer if you've heard of it. A free Visual novel. Honestly Anon shit changed my life for the better. Couldn't recommend it enough if you feel like you are in a rut.
>>7729319I dig it anon
Next thread's theme will be "Asian Cities"
>>7731192Where did you learn that? Or did you just recognize the buildings? I've had that wallpaper saved for as long as I can remember, it's definitely been in my wallpaper folder for at least 3 computers at this point.
Been my wallpaper for at least a year I loved the Silent hill vibes I got that day
>>7731804Well I stumbled upon the source of the original image, which is this user on flickr:https://www.flickr.com/photos/filsdepersonne/24698132395/in/dateposted/He's got some other quite good photos too. Anyway he never says exactly where his pictures were taken but by looking at some of his other ones I got the impression that the view was somewhere in southeast Midtown and from there I just had to look at the individual buildings and I eventually found it.
