I lost my entire harddrive last year and am building up a new collection.

Where I was very picky before with what I downloaded am I not as picky now anymore and just download and delete later. I use the chrome extension Image Downloader for this.

>Do you also hoard wallpaper you never use?
Shit tons. In just the folders I've found on my external drive labelled "wallpaper" or "backgrounds" there's about 3,000. That's not counting folders like "021jpg" (and a couple hundred other folders like it) where I know there are several, and folders with no discernible theme where I keep all the other things I hoard, like the ISO for a Linux distro I used almost 15 years ago and an employee handbook from a company I worked for 5 years ago.
>ITT: random wallapers and share your hoarding techniques on acquiring and folder organisation
Have a designated folder and dump them in there
>>
>>7816128
I hoard them and i use them. I use a program called "variety" available on most - if not all - linux distro's.
Hoarded like 850.000+ wallpapers this way

from here (4chan, several boards) i Use the old DownThemAll browser addon.

Images from Wikipedia i use Imker for that

From other sites i use Ripme, available on github

I have a ton of comfy images I just like to look at from time to time. I never use them as wallpapers but that's how I have them filed

I have somewhere around 2,000 comfy papers. Many from oligarch threads. They get rotated at random and sometimes I’ll just watch them on Ken Burns mode screensaver while I listen to music.

I used to have very general folders;
art>paintings;sculptures;
and in every (sub)folder a "selection" folder with the ones I liked most of the collection

From the top of my head I had the following main-folder names:
Art
Nature
Haze
Minimal
Solids
Random
Inspiration

Yes I do. I have folders 2021-08 ... 2021-07 ... 2011-08 with my hauls of that month. Not every month has a haul because my paper frenzies come and go, but every haul is generally in its correct folder. The folders are pruned using rmlint, retaining older versions of duplicates and retaining the newer ones. Recently I started using digikam and computing similarity between pics to find duplicates in scaled versions.

Here is a pic from 2011-09.

The problem I had with categories is that I didn't have a good answer for walls that fit multiple categories.

For example, you have folders for People, Animals, and Nature.
What do you do for walls with both people and animals? Or people in nature? Or people and animals in nature?

Maybe you could choose based off whichever feature you consider to be the "focus," or have certain categories overrule others (Animals designation takes precedence over People designation), but neither solution felt good enough for me.

>Recently I started using digikam
I remember looking into that. Do you use it for anything other than finding duplicates?

I always went for the focus of the picture

Personally I just save them for inspiration. I haven't changed my wallpaper in something like 5 years, and I'm not really all that into wallpaper "culture" in terms of collecting and actually using them.
This is just a nice board to get artistic inspiration for stuff. Which is useful as an artist, since you can't just stay in your own little bubble. To be a good artist you need to look at art from all kinds of places, not just the stuff you're into.

/wg/ is good for that.

I don't really organize my wallpapers, but I have a folder for ~16:9 wallpapers and and ~4:3 ones, in case I actually commit to the idea for having a secondary monitor in 4:3.

I like to rename my papes to reflect either the location where it was taken, or the title + artist/photographer depending on the photo.

If I can't find anything to properly name the file, I just give the pape a filename I think suits best.

For my main folder, I just use windows to change my wallpaper daily.

I have about 40GB+ of wallpapers saved over the years.

I used to use a program called Picasa which was absolutely phenomenal because you could tag images with multiple tags instead of being forced to sort them into strict categories. Eventually Google killed off Picasa so I went back to folders.

Images I download go into a folder called 'unsorted'. Every once in a while on a rainy day I'll sit down and go through that folder and reorganize them into the correct categories. This is pretty tedious and probably my least favorite part of the hobby.

Maybe one day I'll spring for an Adobe Lightroom subscription or something. If anyone has good suggestion for other image management software I'm all ears.

I have two folders, ~/Nextcloud/Pictures/Wallpapers, and ~/Pictures/Wallpapers (and phone versions thereof). The one in my Nextcloud folder gets everything, unsorted. The one in Pictures gets symlinks to the files in the Nextcloud folder and I have XFCE4 set to rotate through images in that folder, so I can filter out ones I don't want to show, but in general, it's on permanent shuffle.

Do you guys ever use a "temporary" folder? Somewhere to dump papes and once you have a few you organize them properly.
I've used a folder called "Unsorted" for a while but the more folders I create the harder it is to find this specific one.
I've tought about adding a dot at the start of the filename so it shows up at the top but that's how pCloud hides folders, and an underscore looks a bit weird. What do you use?
>>

I've been collecting on and off for a while. 3,000+ papes in about 4GB folder. they're all in one folder, and since 90% are from 4chan they are organized only by the 4chan image codes, so essentially by date.
