My grandfather passed away today. He was a chief engineer in commercial marine, had a good life, some regrets, but lots of happy moments as well.He was the father I never had, I lived with him for the last 8 years, and I owe all my success thanks to his support, when he would pay the houses's expenses, so I did not have to work a dead end job and progress well.He left happy. He said he is really proud of me and how things turned out, and he know that he leaves the family in good hands. He also died exactly as he should have. With me, holding his arm till his last breath, exactly the same way he held mine in my first breaths. Please, let's make a thread worthy of the circumstance. Post pictures that an old-school seafarer would appreciate.RIP27/1/1930 - 14/11/2021

>>7841772My condolenceshttps://files.catbox.moe/oiuduq.mp3
Here have this photo I took during my last contract.I'm a 3rd officer, from me personally... big respect for the guys in the engine room. Being a seafarer is definitely something that'll make you different from the rest and it's not something everyone can do. Due to my very different views on life... never really fit in... vicious cycle of ruining my personal life and love relationships by being absent for long periods only to yearn to go back to sea because I once again have nothing going for me back "home"... maybe the only real home I have is the ship that goes from port to port. Just know that he probably had thoughts about you a lot during his time at sea and is glad you are doing your best, be a good man before all and that is everything a man can ask of you. There is something special in a man's soul when a long day at sea comes to an end watching the sun set. I often wonder how many before me for thousands of years have also watched the same scene and found momentary joy in the little things.
>>7847914Very artistic, thank you very much.>>7848182Very beautiful and peaceful music anon, thank you for this one. Saved.>>7848475That's a beautiful photo anon, thank you.I can definitely relate with your thoughts on how you don't have anything waiting for you. I spent many summers on an island away from my main city, and each November when I would return, I found that less and less people and things actually cared. For you, however, I hope that you create an environment in which you can truly breath.>I often wonder how many before me for thousands of years have also watched the same scene and found momentary joy in the little thingsIsn't that a beautiful thought? How nice and peaceful is to see a landscape, whether land or sea, and feel that that same image has stayed the same for hundred of years, and you are in the same position with a person many, many generations before you. Truly makes you admire nature.Have a great life, anon. I truly wish that for you.

They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.

>>7876960I am deeply sorry for your loss OP. I lost my father about 6 years ago - I can't believe it's been that long already. When he died it hit me hard. I had just graduated and it felt like there was nothing waiting for me in life except for death.(2/5)
>>7876962I believe that grief will always be waiting to come back to you. It will come in waves, crashing into you. But as time passes those waves will get smaller, and you will learn to stand against them or let your grief wash over you and subside.
>>7876963It's clear that your grandfather was a good man. If you ask me, the world needs more men trying to be good, and fewer trying to be great. He will always live on in you as long as you keep working to make him proud. May he rest in peace.(4/5)
