Kind of funny, over the past two years I have been finding myself saying exactly the words "fuck this gay earth" more and more throughout my day to day interactions with other humans and while skimming current events. Maybe I live in an echo chamber in a shitty part of the country but I feel like healthy societal growth and authentic learning and exploration are dead. I'm sure every generation has felt this way about their current time though. Bumping for hope

>every generation has felt this way about their current time
>you really think they felt that way in the 50s-80s ? No way man. Boomers had it great

50's - Those damn greasers are runnin' around with their rock music and tight jeans, corruptin' our morals while the Commies infiltrate every corner of our society. I'm sure my neighbor's workin' for the Reds. I can feel it. We're all gonna drown in nuclear fire any day now. Fuck this gay Earth.

60's - Those damn niggers are runnin' around using the same schools and water fountains as the rest of us, tryin' to seduce our daughters and corruptin' our morals, while the Commies infiltrate every corner of our society. My sons have both died in Vietnam and my daughter is fuckin' a mulatto high on acid in a VW Bus. Fuck this gay Earth.

70's - Those damn faggots are runnin' around with their disco music and their faggot orgy bars, corruptin' our morals and trying to seduce our sons and daughters to be queer, now that the Commies are hidin' in every hold and corner of our society. And now some little pussy is telling me my car is bad for the "ozone" and that eating meat is bad for the sky or some shit. Aw hell, Nixon just resigned. Fuck this gay Earth.

80's - Those damn faggots, niggers, and Commies are runnin' around with their cocaine and their AIDS and their hair band music and their hip-hop, corruptin' our morals, while the Reds have gotten the most aggressive they've been in years and brought back a fear of nuclear annhilation I haven't felt since the 50's. People are screaming about the polar bears melting or some shit, and now I'm being told my grandpa's Thompson he used to storm Guadalcanal is now illegal because it's full-auto. Fuck this gay Earth.

I'd love to see humanity colonizing the solar system , cheap fusion, flying cars, and all that.
I remember when Clarke and vonBraun predicted satellites would make secret military operations impossible and, therefore, war would become obsolete.
Comsats would undermine dictatorial regimes.
This is NOT the 21st century I was anticipating.

But I think you picked an odd image to illustrate such a bright future. Showing the world being swallowed by an urban cancer is more like a nightmare.

With this thread I could get writing about space civilisations, trips into the vast space, crews going through generations just to make it through a single trip, or maybe not, utilising some wormhole.
But I can very quickly see anything turning into... humanity. Corruption, the disgusting stuff the world is made of right now.

This future is too good to ever become true. At least for everybody.

While you always will have people who complain, you also had people who were hopeful and for good reasons. Good things were actually happening and unlike today, imagining that 50 years in the future our current problems would be gone and we would live in some new age was expected.

Notice how actually no one now has some sense of the future like they had before. The best thing you can find it's like Black Mirror, which is "NOW" but on steroids. When you think about it, it's kinda has been going on at least since the 90s. Matrix too is basically "NOW" but on steroids. People forced to live meaningless and boring lives to power some huge machine.

I hope sometime in the near future we can return from this boring bureaucracy world, back to the one where we had crazy dreams and actually realized them.

why does the tail fin look like it slants to the left so hard
>>
>>7926810
Look at the tail fin, and now study the wings. A design feature they have in common is they are thicker where they are attached to the body, but are tapered to much thinner edges on the tips of the wings/tail fin. Because the artist boxed off the trailing edges, it enhances the visual illusion of the tail fin stretching off into the distance, which can only be possible if it is severely tilted. The eye & the brain are trying to resolve conflicting perspectives that indicate two vanishing points that cannot exist at the same time, so as you focus on different parts of the ship you'll see the tilt of the tail fin shift & change.

Enceladus has a lot going for it all on its own:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enceladus

But, the view of Saturn has to be amazing. The rings would be hard to see since you would be part of the ring system. But, still. Even if the gravity is so low it approaches freefall-tier. Human legs are nearly powerful enough to achieve escape velocity. In fact, it may be possible to jump off the surface of Enceladus and become part of Saturn's rings for a million or two years. Eventually, or even directly, fall all the way to Saturn and burn up in the atmosphere along the way.

Yepp. Humans are a stupid bunch. Instead of all of them working on one goal they all do their own stuff. They could be so much more but hate and greed are just to much for their small brains. Time for them to develop an AI that controls them without them knowing to make them better overall. It would be easy for an AI since it would be a million times more intelligent than all humans who ever lived combined. Anything would be possible for this species. No war no crime no need for money since machines would do all the labor.

Every boomer says it was better back then than it is now. They were there, you weren't. So I'll take their word over yours, faggot.

You realize this is what Marxism tried to achieve back in the day, right? In other words, Marxism saw the potential of humanity's productive forces, and saw how the attempt to keep everything within the narrow confines of liberal bourgeois society limited that potential. Marxism foresaw humanity's freedom from arduous labor. Marx praises Adam Smith's recognition of this potential: Smith credited the invention of the steam pump to one young boy who wanted to play with his friends rather than work. That ought to be a model for human progress: setting ourselves free from our own history and its bullshit law of labor. It's tragic that, instead of actually putting in the work required to organize the masses to take over the running of society in order to set themselves free, people settle on this idea that humans are too stupid to do such a thing and think that AI — which is a human invention and therefore exists within narrowly-defined limits and is not this all-knowledgeable godlike intelligence people imagine it to be — has to do it for us. I call bullshit. Is it really a case of this far, no further? Does all human endeavor encounter its limits in capitalism?

People are already heavily controlled by AI and the algorithms that drive it, and look where the world is fast heading as a result... that's right, it's a huge shitstorm that's quickly death-spiraling down the toilet of life.

That's because the algorithms are used to addict people to the AI's own platform, they are used to censor actual truth, they are used to promote certain agendas and ideologies over others, they are used to actively misinform and disinform, they are used to promote division and hatred of people by culture/ethnicity/religion/vax status, they are used to silence dissent, they are used to control information and people and keep them compliant to the ruling class

And best of all 'the people' fully well know the AI and the algorithms are there in the background watching and learning from all of us, we're all constantly being reminded of it by the companies who created the algorithms and AI, and yet 'the people' just don't care; instead just as long as they get their regular fix of group-think confirmation bias, and pointless celebrity gossip, then the people couldn't care less about anything else, and it's all because 'the people' have been addicted.

Don't believe me, turn off your email and all your social media apps, all of them, for 1 month. See how long you last before you're overcome by the maddening urge to check even one of those apps and it has you reaching for your phone/laptop/pc again.

So no, AI's and algorithms are not the answer, but they are part of the problem.

It’s not humans; it’s the ones that brainwash and control them:

(I’ve seen some disparage against the link for being Tumblr, but I ask that you please look at the contents of the blog and assess it on its own merits rather than “judge a book by its cover”.)

>Consumerism is more of a coping mechanism than a reason we aren't in space. Not to mention if billionaires weren't out in space right now, almost nobody would be doing anything.
The hard truth is that scientists say, Earth is the best hope we got and it would take less effort to save the earth than to build bubble domes on Mars. That said hawking said if we don't colonize our system soon we will die.

Not really old school or a pape but I felt this was the best place to ask. Two illustrated astronauts/space workers standing in the airlock with their helmets off and looking a little beat up with nose bandages and scrapes. If you know it or have it, I'd be eternally grateful.

If that were true, that means we're on a downward spiral as a civilization. I can't accept that as being true, so it must be the boomers who are mistaken.
