I miss those. How did people make em?
>>

GIMP/CS3, Equasym XL capsules and a weakness for scene girls who would make absurd requests for custom wallpapers.
For clarity's sake, I'm not claiming to have made that wallpaper, I wish I had.

Any idea where to find more of these? Are there any dead forums with em? I know some forums just... Linger on despite everyone having left many many years ago. It's like walking into a graveyard but on every gravestone you see their past life.

I'm afraid Newgrounds and Cracked were my main hangouts

https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/530/1

However you'll probably run into the same issues I'm having when returning to old websites and seeing a million and one 404's because photobucket sucked then and sucks now. This may be a little haram but DeviantArt probably still has a bunch of older papes if you can get through their shitty search function.

It feels like common internet aesthetics (perhaps for lack of better words) have less integrity and soul nowadays. Many of the aesthetics of things one can find on the internet today feel very shallow, cheap, sterile, soulless and truly lacking in joy or any kind of edge, or sense of true fun (like that Domo one.) A lot of the present day aesthetics seem “Reddit”, or prevalent in the most/more mainstream corners of Reddit, and other parts of the internet.
A good example I guess are futuristic wallpapers; compare wallpapers of futuristic cities from the early 2010s to what’s prevalent now; the older ones were more vibrant and soulful, they could actually inspire hope and enthusiasm, whereas a lot of the newer ones are shallow, soulless/sterile, and are a strange kind of “quasi-cyberpunk” that doesn’t seem too keen on advancement, betterment, or beauty; it’s not inspiring or a place I’d want to live in.

Speaking as a zoomer, you have to understand something very poignant that most millenials don't really realize, which was that the internet went through sort of a quiet revolution right around 2013-15 thanks to the invention of the smartphone.

Pre-2015 or so, most people who had access to the internet were geeky dudes who spent lots of time on the computer to the point that the internet became their standard hangout. So the internet used to be almost exclusively made of up of nerdy, high IQ guys who know a lot about computers and are probably interested in topics relating to them, and are on the internet because they want to be rather than just because they can be.

Now, everyone has access to the internet, which means social media companies are appealing to the lowest common denominator. Gone are the days of joyful hobbyists spending time online because that's where the content they're interested in is, and here are the days of soulless NPCs ceaselessly haranguing you about stupid bullshit on Twitter or whatever.

Anon, people have been complaining about Eternal September or The Summer That Never Ended for longer than zoomers have been around. People were accusing the first iPhone of being the harbinger of the end of the old internet since it was released. Your comment is not new or though provoking at all. In fact, I should welcome you to a conversation we had more than 15 years ago at this point.
And as for "speaking as a zoomer"?
Suicide is a viable alternative to posting here.
>>
>>7940403
Wow, anon, you're so cool for talking on the internet a long time ago. I hope I can tell a guy to commit suicide for trying to have a conversation someone else had a long time before I did some day.
>>
Really hurts knowing so many of these were lost to time with sites dying out without any sort of archiving or Photobucket deciding to be a bunch greedy bastards and wiping out millions of these to save a few bucks

I didn't say he was wrong, I said he was late to the conversation by 15 years or more and that he should kill himself for prefacing his post with 'As a zoomer' as if that lent any credence to his post. You simply must learn to read, anon, it will save you a lot of trouble.

It depends on the board. Some boards need far more levity and take things too serious to the point that it becomes a drag even conversing there. And then on the other hand you have boards that now do nothing but bait and meme 24/7 and hide away in self-segregated generals. /int/ is a good example. 7 or 8 years ago it never used to be like that, at least to this degree. All in all, something happened a number of years ago that forever changed 4chan as a whole. I couldn't say exactly what that was though. Even a decade ago 4chan was a cesspool full of broken people, but now it's a cesspool full of lonely callous angry broken people desperately seeking attention.
>>

>>
>>7947009
it was the mass migration of people here from places like reddit, as well as the average joe learning about 4chan around the time of the 2016 election I think, as well as the resurgence of /pol/
>>
>>7940249
You're probably right, but remember that for someone born pre-1999, computers and the internet were a continuous thing growing up. The smartphone was a game changer in retrospect, but it wasn't seen as clearly back then despite the hype, because every year there were new kinds of consoles that were vastly better, computers that did more and more shit that affected real life, the internet changed from "something companies have" to how every fb aunt spent her afternoons, I remember camera phones being a huge revolution. The generation raised on phones is just very different, because tech changed life so much they probably can't imagine a time when crt tv was considered a luxury and a distraction.
