Cringe. There is nothing grassroots about eco ideology, it's literally fed down our throats every fucking day.

As of now solarpunk is still pretty comfy, but, with the sort of people that would make OP's pape involved, I'm sure it's going the same route as steampunk.

Not really a tiny puddle at all if you would open a book for five seconds. Look at what we're becoming as a species. Humans are now a planetary force and one day we'll be a galactic and intergalactic one. There's now also 8 Billion of us. True, these people don't realize that you're not rebelling against big energy when you buy solar panels, batteries, charge controllers, banks, etc. from the very industry they're supposedly rebelling against. There's already a way to rebel against all this without directly supporting them; live without electricity. You just have to buy land and continue to pay taxes on it, but no one says you have to have electricity. Solarpunk is retarded and isn't even "punk" at all (like most ____punk settings).

Solarpunk is a nice idea but it has too much socialist ideology in it.
It has an impossible idea in its core which is the end of capitalism, that is not going to happen.

The best possible ending would be a good percentage of people in the world change their life trying to be indipendet from the gov and the market by having their own food and power supply, and it goes so well that also other people follow them and exchange knowledge and experience to maximize their auto efficiency, capitalism won't be sleeping while it happens so they'll try to promote it fakely by selling products that seems going in that direction but instead go to an opposite one, but people now see this trick for what it is and keep trying to create what they need by their own.
The first necessary goods will now be a problem of the single person and the second and third grade will remain in the hands of capitalism, thus producing less pollution and creating a semi better world

>>
>>7969076
It's the same reason why communism will never* disappear. The ideology is too deeply rooted in the elementary human psyche. Communism is on envy (masked as altruism, which lends credibility to every brainlet), while capitalism is built on greed, and our lizard brain need to hoard and consume stuff.
Couple that with the present ability of capitalism to provide unprecedented material wealth to a fairly large portion of the world's population (and dangle with that golden carrot in front of the face of the rest), and you have a reason why so many people believe it will never go away.
And it might genuinely look like it, at least for as long as there are resources for us to plunder and space to spread.

*in human terms. round.

Solar punk isn't actually punk at all. Solar futurism is probably a better description.

Solar punk is more of a lifestyle than a vision. Taking plastics and other waste materials and making them useful again, or using literal renewable resources as your main energy supply.

Activism might look like planting invasive species in/near suburbs in order to drive down their property value.
>>

>Thanks anon, sans it being an advertisement, that is positively a beautiful video.
It is, yes, and possibly the early beginnings of a trend.
>Why the fuck >>7968687 calls it a woke propaganda?
The criticism brought up earlier, is about everyone being of colour and diversity, plus a female dominated cast. There is also the issue of such visions glossing over the need for far larger amounts of energy than the scattered solar panels and floating wind turbines.

I happen to live in a (rural) district where all electric energy is from renewables. We produce much more then we need. For quite some time. We got some hydro, some wind turbines and a few scattered solar panels on roofs and a few solar farms. I amost forgot about biogas.
Even wind turbines are barely visible from the distance.

>>
>>7967974
No, that is not my argument, you have come into the conversation part way through and not read the preceding comments. I responded to someone here >>7963784 suggesting that a city like this>>7963378 would be feasible to maintain when what would happen is the place would end up overrun with tons of animals and probably end up as a malaria hub in certain times of the year, just like Rome was in the Middle Ages.

There is bringing some green into cities and then their is trying to grow plants off the side of every building which would generate a small ecosystem that would attract tons of small bugs and animals everywhere - something which would spread disease and the 'urban dwellers' would not like at all because they seem to believe that nature can be easily manipulated. Allergies are growing more and more common, especially for people born and raised in urban environments - can you imagine pollen season in a city that is all plants hanging off every building and on every street?
>>
>>7970943
My rats comment was directed towards this:
>2. There would be no "uninvited animals". The only animals there would be the ones that could survive consistently and coexist with the humans. The Earth works itself out like that.

Which is ridiculous because we hardly control the animals that populate our urban spaces as it is. We are not 'Masters of the Environment'. He proposed that the only animals that would survive are the ones that 'coexist' with us. Rats, cockroaches, insects etc... all swarm over our current cities that don't have plants growing everywhere. You can't just introduce an entire ecosystem through plants into every city with many layers of verticality.

And I never said I didn't want 'green and trees', I live in the countryside. I dislike people and urban areas and would never want to live there. I like trees, I live right next to woodland, but there is enough of a separation by small gardens and fences, even then deer, foxes and other animals roam into the streets and gardens at night, and that is when they have their own environment and sometimes there are just tons of bugs and midges in my garden.

If you introduce sprawling woodland into cities hanging off buildings mixing with hot fumes, ventilation, constant watering etc... You are going to end up with humid buglands complete with toxic fungus and mould and tons of pollen that the city denizens will reject.

The only way to control that would be through constant trimming and replanting and copious use of pesticides etc... and then the pollen issue. You would be living in your high rise and mould, bugs, leaves would be coming into your apartment from the window, you would have your air conditioning breaking as plants and fungus grew into it for the heat.

There are ways we can go forward but the sci-fi plants everywhere high-rise city is a pipe dream that looks great in art but would have tons of problems.

There are ways to do this but the modern city-scape is a bad fit.
>>
>>7970946
This kind of plan (the pic) would work but would require a much smaller population and a certain climate. Our modern cities are homogenised and built around cost cutting and cramming tons of people into a tiny space, destroying all unique culture and overflowing with buzzing technology, and all create at least a small version of steamy rat-paradise New York.

You will notice that most of these 'solar-punk' cities look the same, not adapted to real climatic zones and various geographies, but all assuming the exact same enviroment.

This city would still require tons of gardeners but would be maintainable - hell we had cities that were like this.

The Enviromentalist types, for all their talk of specialisation tend to make their fantasy pics all the same, like the homogenised hell holes of modern cities.

And yes I sperged and wrote a lot. I am tilted.

I spent a few weeks in Frankfurt am Main, and the citry is full of huge trees. Building are open rather than fully enclosing a back yard and trees are often at the ends of the buildings. Tokyo also has a lot og buildings with greenery. Comfy, and I never heard of animal infestation.

>This was a proposal from an architect. People of Paris are not happy with their city as it is now.
Perhaps if large parts were not no-go zone ghettos for niggers and Muslims that would change a bit. The armed guards they have to have standing around Paris do kind of damage it's feeling.

in practice (regarding people who practice this shit to some extent) it does resamble punk with its anti-capitalist, anti-consumerist, non-conformist, diy etc rhetoric

and by non-conformist I mean that, despite that certain things are considered a fact on paper, and are taught at schools, and politicians and the like are "expressing their concern" as usual, it kinda stays on paper. and while we're all busy protecting our everyday comfort there are people losing their lives to disrupt cop city construction

but overall it's not very worthwhile to dwell into semantics since original punk movement stems mostly from fashion brand promotion and most "real" punks are long dead from alcohol and/or heroin overdose
>>
>>7972412
Well, I'll give you the anti-capitalist bit, but "solarpunk" is the new fad in colleges right now, at least in design school as far as I'm concerned, and the sort of people who are into it are the same hyper-consumerist left-wing douches that support traditional, centralized, elitist forms of production such as Hollywood. People such as trannies who wouldn't even exist if late stage capitalism didn't exist.

And the problem is really evident when you look at shit like >>7968400 where, despite all the talk about being diy and whatnot, every depiction of the "solarpunk future" we get is just Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Green Urbanite pod living and bug eating late capitalist dystopia.

(I'm >>7963414 btw, not the guy you were replying to)

Also,
>>7971742
you're arguing against whatever point you dreamed up I made, and that's because you're confusing design with technology. I have nothing to say when it comes to green energy, but I have a lot to say about this shit, unrealistic, terminally urbanite design language called "solarpunk".

>"solarpunk" is the new fad in colleges right now, at least in design school

for reasons
new materials like cheap, flexible solar foil and the need to integrate this in designs opens opportunities to do things different, of course there will be a lot of stupid shit but some things may be useful and stick for decades

Any individual westerner pollute more on average than any individual chinaman or indian

What if we went and split china and india up into 50 different states, but let everyone there continue at the same level of pollution as before? According to you this would be ideal, since each individual new state pollutes less than many other countries. Doesn't matter that the total amount of pollution is the same, since all that matters is how much one state pollutes with no regard for any other factors.

From what I can see from teh early sources, it started out as a protest and a counter to Cyberpunk. Then it was hijacked by the diversity crowd. It is strange that people protesting against that ad were protestign against it being an ad rather than being a hyper-PC "vision" of a diversity future.

>Any individual westerner pollute more on average than any individual chinaman or indian
That is a sleight of hand in argumentation, that China producing for the West means that the West is, somehow, responsible for the corresponding emissions in China. It is not. China was paid for a job and cannot sneak back a guilt fee. You can also see a very similar trick when it comes to CO2 emissions where they very carefully do not declare if the figures are scope 1, 2, or 3. If you do not question the basis, you will end up with the same amount of CO2 counted multiple times.
>>
>>7972730
>that China producing for the West means that the West is, somehow, responsible for the corresponding emissions in China
I never said that
I said that, as the west has higher per capita emissions than china, then the average westerner pollutes more than the average chinese.
You've once again demonstrated that you don't know what "per capita" means.

trimming something like this needs just ladder and secateurs, cheaper and less effort then mowing a lawn

Requires more skill though to make sure it moves how you want and doesn't get to heavy or force the frame away from the wall. It is well worth it, but certainly requires more skill and thought than mowing a lawn.

I mean, they kinda did take a turn for the worse. The spanish killed a lot of people when they arrived. And yeah, the human sacrifices were pretty bad but frankly the inquisition was worse in terms of religiously-motivated killings. Terraced farms were a pretty incredible development from that part of the world, even if you don't personally like every single aspect of that culture.

exactly bro. they know pretty well that those eco-terrorists won't do shit to them. you know who they will terrorize? other innocent bystanders from low-mid class. they gonna riot the streets and destroy cars, homes and small businesses of 50-100 random wages and then say mission accomplished. this is how it works. the whole woke agenda was made by wall-street to make people fight each other instead of the real enemy. they also brainwashed you into thinking only right economics works and there's only either ultra-capitalism or gulag and food tickets. it's a lie
