Is it really true that Tyson isn't allowed to KO Jake, or just one of the many rumors that he had written into the contract?
>>
I can't take sumo seriously, since the Yakuza is known to fix the fuck out of many of them. The same goes for all Japanese combat sports like MMA.
>>
>>5554473
it WAS a real thing in the contract for the Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. exhibition, and because this fight started as an exhibition people assumed it had a similar stipulation.
As far as I know, this was changed from and exhibition to a sanctioned fight and KOs are fully allowed.
>>
>>5554478
Interesting. It's a lose-lose for Jake no matter what. If he wins, people will automatically assume Tyson took a dive for money. If he loses, then he just got beat by a dude nearing 60.

That's 4 or 5 times a year max and very few fights result in someone taking a serious beating. The schedule the big name pro wrestlers are expected to keep is backbreaking. Pro wrestling shit has got to be up there with NFL linemen during the regular season in terms of intensity and accumulating injuries. Just like with the NFL a lot of attributes end up being a secondary concern when compared to your genetic durability and capacity to recover. All those knee braces and wraps and shit you saw all the time during the attitude era weren't just for show.
>>
>>5559978
wow
>>
>>5559260
>As opposed to other professional fighters actually trying to hurt you as much as possible?
Professional wrestlers do multiple shows per week on top of training and rehearsals, and the shows aren't entirely pre-rehearsed since they will change parts up on the fly. Other than the obvious issue of injuries as a result of fuck-ups, there is also just the fact that doing it so frequently means you're wearing your body down from the constant stresses.
Fighters get more time to recover between fights (although they get way less free reign when it comes to PED use) and have a lot more flexibility in their routine.

The ref is basically letting the wrestlers know that they're still in the ring and the match is still on-going. Sometimes it can be hard tell and it's not like you can look behind you and see how close to the edge you are when you're on defense.

They really can't especially since they don't really ever practice head movement, but at the same time kicks don't need a lot of force to put someone out. Crescent kicks may seem really weak, needlessly flashy and impractical, but the amount of force generated is perfectly fine for putting someone out and is great for kicking from the clinch since nobody expects one unless you're endlessly spamming it.

>>5565071
This.
The modern incarnation of it is just karate rebranded but with more focus on grappling. With even dumber rules given you can't punch or kick the head in contrast to kyokushin which allows to kick the head. You either have MMA wannabe historians that think it's a no-rules deathmatch minus eye-gouging (it was most certainly neither a fight to the death nor a blank slate no-rules tournament) or you have fags taking overrated karate lessons where you larp as an Ancient Greek Olympic champion.
>>
>>5565040
>>5565077
But that's not true either. There had been loads of style vs style matches in America since before Helio Gracie was even born. Boxing vs catch wrestling, wrestling vs judo, you name it. Fucking Teddy Roosevelt had boxing, wrestling, AND judo coaches.

>In a letter from the White House from Theodore Roosevelt to his son Kermit dated Febuary 24, 1905
“I still box with Grant, who has now become the champion middleweight wrestler of the United States. Yesterday afternoon we had Professor Yamashita up here to wrestle with Grant. It was very interesting, but of course jiu jitsu and our wrestling are so far apart that is it difficult to make any comparison between them. Wrestling is simply a sport with rules almost as conventional as those of tennis, while jiu jitsu is really meant for practice in killing or disabling our adversary. In consequence, Grant did not know what to do except to put Yamashita on his back, and Yamashita was perfectly content to be on his back. Inside of a minute Yamashita had choked Grant, and inside two minutes more he got an elbow hold on him that would have enabled him to break his arm; so that there is no question but that he could have put Grant out. So far this made it evident that the jiu jitsu man could handle the ordinary wrestler. But Grant, in the actual wrestling and throwing was about as good as the Japanese and he was so much stronger that he evidently hurt and wore out the Japanese. With a little practice in the art I am sure that one of our big wrestlers or boxers, simply because of his greatly superior strength, would be able to kill any of those Japanese, who though very good men for their inches and pounds are altogether too small to hold their own against big, powerful, quick men who are as well trained.”
>>
>>5559564
He's a really good technical boxer, what do you mean? He took the middle rounds against Usyk pretty clearly. Really good body shots and uppercuts.
Fury's problem has always been his mental state and his discipline. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

Fury does heavily rely on being the bigger guy and leaning on his opponents. He's definitely good, especially regarding movement, but let's not overlook the constant favouritism he gets from both referees and judges.
It's an incredibly common theme with him and has been across many different fights. He still puts in the work as he wouldn't be there otherwise but at his level of fighter the difference between competitors is already a very thin margin so preferential treatment can easily turn things completely around.
>>
herb is trash, heil Herzog
>>
>>5553011
The japanese might have invented MMA in isolation from brazilian influence, but the brazilians had already been doing vale tudo since the 20s, long before pro wrestling even became an organized thing in Japan.
Debating who invented MMA is silly since multiple groups of people have come up with the idea on their own.

the guy on the right. in sumo, there's no official start like a bell. so both fighters are supposed to "match their energies" or something like that, what that means in normal speak is that they both have to put their hands down before they begin. practically speaking this rule is bullshit since it allows to wait until the other guy puts both hands down and then wait more until he's bored then you can touch the ground for a split second before you ram him
>>
>>5579157
Also isn't there some sort of seniority thing going on with that tradition? Like the wrestler with less seniority or accomplishments is the one who's supposed to ready up first and wait for the more senior wrestler to take full position?
>>
>>5579196
>Also isn't there some sort of seniority thing going on with that tradition?
never heard of anything like that, all i know is that both are supposed to match the breathing and rhythm of eachother, which is nice on paper and works 80% of the time but is retarded in practice in the last 20% since it's easily exploitable. i imagine wrestlers don't exploit it more due to the culture looking down and punishing wrestlers who do since Japan is all about muh honour but ultimately idk.

Carjitsu seems pretty dumb.
I can totally get behind phonebooth boxing as that is effectively just a much smaller ring to prevent the fighters from avoiding permanent brain-damage, but this just seems like a ridiculous premise. Tries to simulate a self-defence fantasy scenario but does so in a way it would never happen. Using a pure grappling art that already has way too much stalling as is, all in a confined space where you are going to get even less done unless you use the only nearby prop worth a damn, which would be the seatbelt.

Not really the right thread, but it must have been fucking terrifying to fly against a late war USN ship. The amount of flak coming up, and how accurate it was, it isn't surprising that the Japanese pretty much gave up conventional air attacks.

IIRC the IJN had a report that said it took almost a hundred lost planes to destroy an American ship conventionally, but it only took 7 kamikazes. My numbers are probably very wrong, but it was some sort of insane ratio, like 9:1 in favor of kamikaze strikes.
