I bought a bag of plastic skulls from the dollar store yesterday, first official halloween decorations of the year. I want to track down a string of halloween lights to put on my balcony eventually (I remember when i was a kid the two most common ones were strings of little plastic jackolanterns, and also little plastic skeletons that glowed green). I'm also planning on getting some of those tiny garbage bag ghosts that you fill up with leaves & hang from trees, and put them in the park near here.

I don't know which Mars Attacks bust I want to use this on, the snowglobe or the Earth lamp.

I am going to bitch about the 100-dollar Mars Attack raygun because it neither looks nor sounds anything like the ones in the movie, despite the website claiming it's just like it (false advertising?). Come on, man. It's like they just applied the license to a generic prop raygun they already made hoping it would sell more. It would have been perfectly fine as just that, if still pretty overpriced, but now it's a lie. Do better, Spirit.

Last year there was one anon who posted a solid list of Halloweeny anime recommendations. I figured I'd repost a few of 'em here for anyone interested:
>Another (super fun Final Destination-style horror thriller)
>Vampire Hunter D (two movies, vampires in the future)
>Ghost Hunt (episodic spooky ghosts)
>Hellsing Ultimate (edgy vampires, action horror)
>Shiki (vampires in a rural Japanese town)
>Higurashi (psychological horror)
>Urasekai Picnic (supernatural horror, score is very reminiscent of John Carpenter)
>Paranoia Agent (supernatural horror)
>Corpse Party: Tortured Souls (campy body horror)
>Death Note (not horror, but a thriller with gothic visual elements)
>Hell Girl (episodic psychological horror)
>Parasyte: The Maxim (The Thing if it was an anime)
>School-Live

This was another anon's list but I can post more recs of my own if anyone is interested.

I have a problem I am trying to figure out. Another anon once described their process of having two candy bowls for trick or treaters. One was full of king size bars he gave children with proper costumes, and the other was for teenagers and tards.
I'd like to do the same, but with my house's orientation I'd have kids walking all over my yard if I'm not out in my driveway instead. Maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet and give out share size to everyone.

Guess I'll repost my recommendations from last year (even with the same image):
But first, here's 2 anime recommendations:
>Ghost Hound (not to be confused with Ghost Hunt. It's been a few years since I watched, so I can't tell how horror it was anymore, but it was interesting)
>xXxHoLiC (not horror at all, just supernatural, but I always like to rewatch it between October and December)

Now to the mangas:
>Mieruko-chan (there's an anime, but I can really only recommend the first episode, because of the god tier fanservice, other than that, just go straight to the manga)
https://mangadex.org/title/6670ee28-f26d-4b61-b49c-d71149cd5a6e/mieruko-chan
>Wakusei Closet

>Fuan no Tane

>Souboutei Kowasubeshi
https://mangadex.org/title/85bfa53d-def5-4b9e-82a8-895fbb7a7006/souboutei-kowasubeshi
>Dark Metro
https://mangadex.org/title/78a72c7b-b19d-4c05-a0b7-176e3ecf7441/dark-metro
>Soul Eater (really. It has some Halloween vibes, in the beginning at least; it has a great way of depicting madness imo; and it's leagues above the anime. . . but the anime is still very fun to watch, so do both)
https://mangadex.org/title/53ef1720-7a5d-40ad-90b0-2f9ca0a1ab01/soul-eater
>Anything Ito Junji
There's of course more, but I also have a terrible memory, so this is all I can recommend for now.
Also, sorry for the lack of descriptions, please click the links and read the synopsis to see if any of them interests.

Also2, here's 1 game recommendation:

The "ber" months are when I get into everything dark, spooky, and all-around fun. For example, I watched the Solomon Kane film adaptation last night and thought about how the soundtrack was lacking. If only there could have been a more book-accurate version back in the 70s from Hammer, Amicus, or Tigon with a soundtrack like this...

Hey everyone, if you want a cheap/fun/easy way to spread the Halloween spirit, carve a couple Jack-o-lanterns and place them around town on All Hallows’ Eve or Halloween with something like OP’s message underneath them so more people will join in on the tradition. Mornin /x/ Halloween thread. Sippin' coffee, gonna be spending the afternoon going to different farm stands in my area and driving around. My buddy has a little acoustic folk show at a barn venue about an hour away so I'll be heading out to that.

The death knell of summer is here. Mornings are cold, and the evenings are dark, the summer heat is still lingering but it's weak. I'm in New England and the trees are showing signs of change. Some are already going but most are still green, with a hint of color here and there.

I come for these threads every year. It's the only time I still use 4chan, these threads are so genuine and authentic in their love for the season. You're all good company.

To add. Someone a few threads ago, probably a week or two back, mentioned the idea of carving jack o'lanterns and leaving them around our suburbs / neighborhoods to get the spooky magic spreading. I'll be doing this for sure. I love carving jack o' lanterns. And going around and leaving them on corners of my streets, atop fences, or in public is a great idea. I also am a bit of a night owl so I'll be able to do it. Probably just light up a lantern and leave it overnight with a picture. If I don't do a real candle I'll leave a note inside or some candy maybe. My only fear is if weirdos get paranoid about it and be like "don't eat the candy! It could be poisoned!". Or if they think it's a part of some weird viral thing, but that ain't so bad.

I'm still gonna do it regardless. I think it's harmless and fun. Halloween is truly a season with it's own festivities and it's a shame the only real folk appreciation we have of it is... Going to target to pick out the latest plastic decorations. Which isn't really all that bad, but the folk roots of the holiday are being erased with commercialism. So it goes.

I'm sure there will be a few artists that use AI to improve their own work, and/or make something really compelling and original, but it won't be the VAST majority. That vast majority are people like you. How ironic that is, because you are literally the same as the "fartists"(how mature) you are critiquing. I never even claimed to be an artist and yet you have to make that assumption just to seem like you have ground to stand on. You're a lazy cunt with no actual skill prompting your way toward easy recognition. You think your better than some furry commission factory? That's fucking rich.
>>38811198
Is someone desperate for attention?
>>
>>38811251
>According to what metric?
You are my metric. People making low effort garbage that clogs the feeds of every place where art is posted.
>>38811264
Why? Because they make faggy art while you make heckin big boob witches? *You're trash.
>>
>>38811270
If nobody likes what you post enough it starts to get banned. That is generally how it goes here. Should you be allowed to post endless amounts of spam as well?
>>
>>38811270
>I don't like

No, it's everything we don't like. Every 4channer hates AI garbage.
>>
>>38811289
What better example than the ones sitting in this very thread? Cope harder.
>>
>>38811289
Since this is the standard of proof you want to go on, how about you show me the amazing artworks made with AI that you think deserve recognition? Some novelty joke song made with AI audio? Some crappy porn? Maybe some aping of a popular artists style, but mixed with le heckin other thing!?
>>
>>38811309
We are the majority here. You are crying about having to hear our takes. Is there anything more?
>>
>>38811328
Who is shifting it? You said what's in this very thread doesn't count. Am I supposed to bring every AI image to bear here just to prove to you my fucking opinion? You're actually autistic.
>>
>>38811359
>Mommy and daddy, stop fighting!
NO
>>
Halloween?
>>
>>38811389
I love how any time someone disagrees with your autism, it must be because they are ethnic. Only on 4chan would people be this paranoid about race specifically.
>>
>>38811389
It certainly doesn't contradict my point, does it? If I were right about this, what would you suggest I do to prove it to you? It's a fucking opinion, based on the vast majority of what I have observed. You couldn't actually prove what you think any more than I can. This is why you're autistic. Demanding this level of proofs for an opinion like this makes no sense.
>>
>>38811412
Oh my god, the lack of self awareness. This statement you made is comedy fucking gold. Go ride your harley to the bar and drink yourself to death, you axe deodorant blue ribbon trash.

So, AI art sucks in the vast majority of cases. Does anyone REALLY disagree with that? I don't think so.

It's a comic book, not a magazine. Never read any old EC comics? Tales from the Crypt? The Vault of Horror? They're a lot of fun. I think they would have been better if all of the illustrations were replaced with AI art, though. Too bad we can't just go back in time and turn all that garbage into objectively better AI versions.

Wow that's a good one. I never could've thought of that. Great job, really. Pat yourself on the back for that one, buddy. That was a clever play, the likes of which are rarely seen, and it should be celebrated as such. We should all stand in applause. Maybe give a slow clap to lead into it? For dramatic effect? I think so.

>>38816545
It was good when it was committed to it's analog-style format, but there are moments where it tries to be an "actual" movie that sucked me out of it, and the latter half isn't as good as the first. It's a fun little gimmick- driven movie that doesn't impress nor offend in any major way, but maybe it'd be better if it did either.

Favorite games to play this season? I always enjoy going back to the early Castlevania games. The ones that were still based on old Universal horror movies. They're hard games, but also rewarding. Someone mentioned Batman AK last thread, that's a great choice. It takes place on Halloween, but I don't think they overdo it design wise, so it still feels worn down, gothic, and industrial like you'd expect. The Joker popping up everywhere feels pretty fitting, he's like your own personal trickster demon for the holiday. Darkest Dungeon is also one I return to often, since it's endlessly repayable.

Teenagers are allowed to trick or treat too because if they don't they'll most likely just be vandalizing instead.
I would never turn down anyone who comes to my door dressed up

Anyone who discriminates as far as who "deserves" to get candy is a miserable son of a bitch. Almost anyone could buy it for themselves if they really wanted to, a lot of kids included. Giving it out on Halloween is more about the gesture and the tradition than anything else. It gives people a chance to get out in costume and have a sense that they are communing with others in common celebration. That tradition didn't survive this long just so you could turn it into your own personal power trip because you feel powerless in your own shitty day to day. You really feel so weak and disempowered, why don't you scare people? It's not like the holiday doesn't make room for aggression or mischief, but to spit in the face of the gesture and what it represents is antithetical to the holiday. Halloween is when everyone goes out pretending to be something they're not, just for the fun of it. When people join together in a collective masquerade, escape the shackles of our social mores, and embrace the chaos inherent to existence. If you want to be a Grinch on Halloween, why don't you just turn your lights off and go to sleep? Or go trolling around scaring and pranking people, as is tradition? Nobody's forcing you to participate, and no one needs to have their one Halloween a year ruined so you can shove your pointless opinions down their throat. That's not what the holiday is about.

These women are trashy and their costumes are too. If you're fat why don't you dress as Ursula or something else more complementary to your form? I can't even tell what any of these are supposed to be.

Are we having a factual debate now? I thought we were throwing expletives like monkeys throw shit? I should've said most, not any, but they still suck as Halloween costumes. The "sexy female version of a popular horror character" idea sucks to begin with, and it doesn't get better when the woman wearing it weighs 300 pounds.

Anyone play puppetcombo games for Halloween? They're PSX style horror games that draw heavily from slashers and grindhouse style flicks. In the spirit of these movies, I suppose, none of them are amazing games, but they're all fun to try out. Chillas art also makes some really atmospheric j-horror games that I enjoyed even more.

Ghost n Goblins / Super Ghouls n Ghosts. Zombies Ate My Neighbors. I used to love playing Team Fortress 2's Halloween mode. Though I haven't played that game in years and don't have a good enough P.C anymore.

For something more modern I play Dead By Daylight. The game itself is rather good, but the community is awful. Too many don't care about the atmosphere of the game which I think is it's best attribute. Everyone takes it too seriously and treats it like a competitive game.

>Though I haven't played that game in years and don't have a good enough P.C anymore.
I'm starting to need a new PC but I don't really want to deal with modern Windows software or Mac hardware, and I'm just not patient enough to learn Linux. What options do I even have? I can get by with a toaster if I have to, I only really play retro games on PCs.

TF2 was timeless. Shame about the bots.

I'm not the type to ask really. I was a console kid growing up and only got a pc during my teenage years. I played on that guy until I got rid of it when I was 21 and decided I had spent too much time on my computer and wanted to go out and really live.
I still don't know anything about computers, really, and hardly play games anymore. I have a friend who in my neighbor and he has all the old consoles and I'll go over there and play some old games with him - like the NES games I mentioned. But other than that I'm a movie / book guy these days.

Its a shame DBD did the licensing thing so quickly. I guess it's kind of inevitable with these sorts of online games(thanks fortnite), but it also kind of killed the competition by making them redundant. Why play Evil Dead or Texas Chainsaw when there are way more characters in DBD? None of these competitors really maintained a playerbase because DBD has become the go to. DBD is just an clunky bad looking game imo, and it sucks that it's the base that we are stuck on for the whole genre. The gameplay loop doesn't even seem that entertaining to me, and it bothers me how it doesn't really change based on what villain you play against. I feel like you could come up with more creative ways to end a session depending on the villain, but everything is just a reskin of the same basic gameplay loop. And since DBD did the repair the generator thing everything just copies that instead of getting creative. The genre seems like it died before it ever began, mostly cause dev teams realized they couldn't compete with DBD's numbers so they stopped working on their respective franchise's game. I guess F13th just got fucked by copyright nonsense, but what can you do? Sucks.

I posted about this website every year but if you don't know of the website Halloween New England do check it out.
It's independently run and updated and it's an all-in-one database for Halloween / Autumn happenings in New England.
It's not perfect, but it's given me plenty of ideas and things to do when I have a weekday / weekend to blow.

I agree with most of this. The only DBD gamemode that truly grabs me is the one they have going right now. I believe it's called "lights out". It essentially makes it so there's no perks and the map is very dark. Much harder to tell what's going on and it's scarier. I mainly play with a sort of "hide and seek" mentality. Which was what the game was based on but has grown out of in practicality. I still like being chased and fooling the killers instead of just out maneuvering them. The darkness aides in my style of playing moreso than the main gameplay.

I find DBD to be dull but fun for a round or two. I don't play many games these days so I'm very casual with it. I like the atmosphere and the tone of the game, though altogether it's pretty clunky and very weird that the game is as popular as it is. I found out about it because of it's "monster mash" type vibe with all the horror icons in it.

I guess you don't appreciate body positivity for Halloween.

>it's pretty clunky and very weird that the game is as popular as it is
Horror fans have low standards. That's it. It's the same thing with theme park haunts and horror movies. People are looking for cheap thrills and so that's what they get. CHEAP thrills. It's unfortunate that the artistry and creativity of this genre is so hampered by the need to appeal to the lowest common denominator for money. I know there are a lot of creative people in the horror space that are looking for a lot more and not finding it.

If body positivity means pretending a fat bitch ain't fat, then no, I don't. There are plenty of characters/costumes that would be more complementary to their bodies. Recommending those instead is what I would call actual body positivity, as long as you aren't a dick about it. Like Freddy and Jason would both be great plus size costumes if you actually wore their goddam outfits instead of whatever retarded stripper bullshit is pictured here. These women just want to have their cake and eat it too, no pun intended. They want you to pretend they look like the hot cosplay model chicks they're aping while still getting to eat whatever they want. If they can't stand to look in the mirror, that's their problem to solve. Everyone pretending they look like something they don't doesn't magically fix that for them. If anything, it just represents our collective tendency to ignore any problem that people are sensitive about, even if it's life threatening. That doesn't sound very empathetic to me.

I posted that bit about body positivity in a joking manner, but you took it quite seriously which kind of makes it even funnier to be honest. I try not to be judgment about that sort of thing, but I do see your point about being tasteful and sticking to what's appropriate for one's body type. Still, if I had a chubby girlfriend who decided to dress somewhat inappropriately for Halloween, I'm not giving her a lecture or complaining;)
