I think the difference between agnosticism and atheism is how to approach existence. Agnosticism have no trouble in assuming thought to be real, so everything is real as long as the mind conceives it. Atheism needs a physical confirmation, so thought is not real, only the consequence of it in the physical plane is. That's why it is possible to be a gnostic agnostic, so you can state that everything is real as thought, but some of these realities are not for you, and you pick up which one you want (which leads to gnosticism).
