It's sadly a criticism you can give many BL. Once they hit chapter 4 it's like the author was forced to speed up ahead and cram 1 Volume worth of character development.

Then if they ever get a V2 is often shit and rushed with forced drama.

>>

I don’t read a lot of japanese novels so I haven’t read it. I like tragic stories in general so I’m a fan of tragic gays, especially since BL is filled with forced happy ends. I read the short story brokeback mountain was based; it was really good I understand why a movie was made.

Happy gays are common in BL but super uncommon in normal stories

This is probably autistically specific, but curious if anyone has recc's with this kind of dynamic
>A and B are a couple, maybe even happily so
>For whatever reason, B ends up cheating with C (I keep imagining perhaps a work/life balance fail on A's part)
>C genuinely falls for B, but B just uses C for sex
>B is heartbroken, but keeps fucking C and bitterly accepts they won't ever be #1 in B's heart
In short, an NTR situation where the 3rd party ends up cucking themselves emotionally
>>
>>2950233
Im assuming you got
>B is heartbroken, but keeps fucking C and bitterly accepts they won't ever be #1 in B's heart
the wrong way around? C should be heartbroken?
Anyways, ive read this kinda set up but where A is a woman.
If i remember, it was a series of short stories where a gay trope is focused on. its not REALLY cheating, its just the girl obsessed and thinking shes the lead of her story and going to get the guy, only to stumble on them fucking. The emotional cucking is her thinking "i can still win! ill keep trying, this is my story" or something.

cannot for the life remember what it was called.

Help an anon out - if you were making a Bad BL Bingo, what annoying tropes/cliches and terrible overused quotes would you put in it?
>>
>>2950301
i dont think theres really any bad tropes, just bad authors. its actually my favorite when i come across a bad trope and its really good. if anything theres just tropes that are done badly, lots. some contrived, on the spot coincidence where two people just suddenly fall for eachother, "omega/alphas", "have to have sex to leave this room", so on, so fourth.
>>
>>2950305
That's the catch for after the bingo is done, but everyone has tropes and quotes that they generally dislike or are mostly found in bad titles. Others are just criminally overused. That's the sort of stuff I'm looking for.
>>
>>2950189
I guess I wasn't clear enough because I tried to avoid spoilers, but what I meant was that if they had said Keigo's birthday was in two months for example it would've been better. Kazuki said they met a lot of times which I understood as at least 5 times, but it's a bit hard to believe this happened in a month or less when he should be busy with university and his job and Keigo should have meetings with the other sugar mommas. Chapter 5 would still feel rushed even with that change though.
That said, what you said really happens way too often, the V2 thing being particularly bad, stories that could use another volume don't get it, but ones that don't need it get a shit sequel.
Minaduki Yuu comes to mind in regards to that because I saw yesterday that he wrote a story for Naru, she's really milking that world for all it's worth. I read only the first chapter of Love Nest's sequel and I could already see it was unnecessary drama when she had already spent so long on that story that didn't need more drama. I won't be surprised if Naru's story gets a sequel too and if the guy he gets with appeared in the Love Nest sequel, I'll bet another character will be introduced so she can make another spin-off.

"its okay if its you" is TOP tier if you actually make it work. it just has to be more to it then that. ive read like 5 of these that actually convinced me.
>>2950504
its amazing condoms even exist in any bl with how little stds come up. ive seen stds actually discussed in a doujin before, but only in the context that it was pre-internet, and both characters had been partners but never done anything but oral stuff because they had no idea how to have sex. they went step by step with the "who does what, how do we prepare, do we use protection", but yeah.

imagine the edgy shit you could write with STDs actually being a thing.
>some naive straight virgin character gets non-con'ed by what he thinks is the cool chad from school/work
>goes from stockholm syndome to "if its you its okay", thinks its a real relationship
>all his other naive straight virgin friends also seem to start getting lucky, groups all happy, but everyones keeping their girlfriend a secret
>gets sick but not sure why
>all his friends around him also start getting sick in the same way...
i kinda want it to exist, because if you did it real subtle, the amount of angry reactions around it like killing stalking would be great.
>>
>>2950501
>>20 seconds of stretching a brand new bottom is enough to accommodate a monster cock
its absolutely not bingo related since ive only seen this once, but there was one where a monster/human couple had been apparently doing it for months or years, and had a panel where the human was suddenly shocked to discover the monster had two dicks. like fucking come on. each dick alone was massive, how could you not notice.

>No switching ever
This reminded me of this dj, I was pleasantly surprised that the author created it to add switching to the story and I think more authors should do that. I think the main reason switching isn't as common is because readers would complain about it, but I think that if it's like this, a separate one-shot to a story that was properly concluded, most people who don't like it will just pretend it doesn't exist while people who wouldn't mind it/wanted to see it like I did in this case would have it.
>>2950530
>"its okay if its you" is TOP tier if you actually make it work. it just has to be more to it then that. ive read like 5 of these that actually convinced me.
I think one of the problems with that trope is that the top usually wants to pretend they're still straight and all that comes along with it, basically "bisexuality doesn't exist".

Only if the work isn't tagged "Author chose not to use archive warnings." Cuz if that phrase is present, that should be warning enough for a viewer to tab out and not disturb the author/artist.

Enjoyed it a lot. One of the few BLs where miscommunication is unique and implicitly seen and resolved rather than being explicit and cliche. Most BL are about being seen around a girl=cheating. So this is a fresh breathe of air.

For instance, when Sako asked Akui in ch 5 whether Akui thinks about him when masturbating and Akui steered the question to Sako's haircut. Akui meant he feels embarrassed talking about such intimate stuff (as it's his 1st relationship). But Sako thought it's because Akui doesn't love him, just testing what love/sex is, and doesn't want to say it out loud to insult Sako. Then, Sako said to remove the glasses as a response because he thinks Akui doesn't need to be satisfied with him specifically, which upset Akui. Instead of saying “let’s break up this relationship” like most BL, Sako wanted other ways to get what he wants; intimacy through sex. They resolved it by Akui saying he really loves Sako specifically, no one else, which I thought was pretty sweet.

Not to mention, the art is very unique and both MCs are not your stereotypical ikemen, which made it feel more realistic and down to earth. Highly recommend.

This was so fucking weird and over the top. The only interesting story was the siren one and it felt underdeveloped, but I would read a similar concept to that one if it were longer. Is there anything similar out there?
>siren dude is a foreveralone
>some werewolf guy confesses to him
>siren thinks the werewolf only wants him because he's a rare species
>sirens have pretty eyes and also their sex is only determined during puberty
>siren dude is a dick until he realizes the werewolf guy actually likes him
>worries the werewolf will stop liking him when he finds out his secret
>turns out siren's secret is that he is 16 and doesn't have a proper sex yet
>kept it secret because it's embarrassing
>the werewolf doesn't give a single fuck
You know the worst injustice though?
>end section lists the siren and wolf as riba but we never get to see them do it
>doesn't even say if the siren has a peen at all or what he uses to bang the wolf
>fuck the cowardly mangaka for not giving us a sex scene where the siren grows a dick halfway through.
Anyway rec me anything similar or involving embarrassing secrets in general. Body related or otherwise.

The licensed version of Tasogare Outfocus/Out of Focus changed my mind on it quite a lot. I thought it was very mediocre with a nice art style before. Now, I actually quite like it. The story is still nothing too special but Mao has a personality, it turns out. Every character comes off better in the licensed version. The narration still feels dreamlike but makes sense rather than being confusing. Here are some pages picked at random, can post more if anyone wants.
If you've already read it, I won't recommend you buy it because it is still fundamentally the same thing, but if you haven't read it and want to, it might be worth using your free bookwalker coins on.

>>2952416
Not that anon but I've been wondering too. I may be wrong but I believe it's Kodansha's own translation arm that did Tasogare. I don't know about Zanzou but it was popular enough that I don't see why they wouldn't translate it. Shame they'd both be digital only though, I keep thinking I liked Tasogare's translation and typesetting enough that I'd like the physical.

I don't get why everyone simps so hard for Suzumaru Minta. Her art style is nice but the same face is extreme and her characters don't behave like humans. Occasionally she does OK at building sexual tension, but overall her stories are bland and lifeless. She can't even make fluff that gives the warm fuzzies, but she keeps trying even though smut is probably what she's best at. Wholesome is my favorite tag but just once I'd like to see her break away from that and write something nasty and dirty. She'd probably half ass it too though.

Few years ago there was news that Japan was severely lacking in the male pornstar department and considering the ongoing and increasing problem with people being virgins at like 25+ I think it's unlikely. You'd probably be more likely to find them doing erotic ASMR or something like that than porn probably.
>>
>>2952940
There's a surprising amount of hot young dudes in new JAV but for some reason only in milf and NTR genres. No idea if they're ex-idols, they're usually not as doll-like. Gay JAV scene is just sad though, BL manga is just about the only place where really handsome men act in gay porn.

Any vintage BL enjoyers here? A friend recently dug out a lovely piece of history called Gakuran Tengoku. It's one of the first titles to run in Reijin back in early 90's. Drawn by a male artist for a BL (not geicomi) magazine, it kind of straddles the two aesthetics. As it's a set of self-contained stories, some are more romantic others kinky, and some are just gag-skits. The variety is probably the best part of the manga, there's a little bit of everything - riba, small tops, muscular sporty guys, friends to lovers and masochistic teacher-student relationships, voyeurism and even some shota. And oddly enough all the stories are rather wholesome albeit in a very 90's way.
Tragically the manga is not translated, but as it's on MRM for free maybe it'll tempt some moonspeakers here (or those who just want to fap).

I doubt a proofreader would help in this case if it's just a couple of people doing this for free without the experience.
This is always a problem with a literal translation versus a free translation. You have to worry that the meaning is being conveyed correctly. Sometime you can completely miss the correct context because there was a subtle difference you didn't notice. Which can contextualize the entire scene in a different way by mistake. It's something that you can only develop over time.

Their last scene are really nice, though I can understand why some anons feel bummed out after the epilogue, it does color them a bit negatively but eh. The way Hijiyama pretty much tells him he loves him and Okino "I will always be with you" are cute. Also the way he tries to play off his earlier confession as joke is very noticeable on replays. He's more into Hijiyama than he likes to admit and he uses sarcasm to deflect any rejection.

It was published by a BL company and the dudes don't look like transformers or anything. In this case, it's just a silly gijinka BL oneshot. And it's definitely not furry, a bus is not an animal.
It's not quite Pygmalion, but if you want something involving a statue, try Even Just the Tip/Sakitcho Dakedemo by Tojitsuki Hajime. I think I've also read one about a painting coming to life, but I can't remember its name.

Reminds me that one shoujo manga I read recently. Mermaid something? It was about a race of space dudes who could turn ito women once they hit puberty and it was a weird love story between this shota that became a woman and this other dude.

The weirdest part was how one of possible love interest characters fucked the MC rival (who was also a mermaid) WHEN HE WAS A DUDE, but then the other dude eventfully switched and also gave birth. He even has a line where he goes "I would have preferred to do this after you changed into a woman, but this is fine" before he fucks him.

It's some weird bizarre line where it's gay but also not.

>>
>>2954173
The main series ended but the ongoing sequel (named season 0) picks up where the story left off. Maki is still strongly implied gay though it's never said out loud. At this point it feels like Shimizu Reiko is afraid to progress his bait plotline too much, so instead she insterts petty fanservice every chapter or two and hopes everyone forgot about the more substantial homo she planted early in the continuation.
>>
>>2954169
Shojo these days is much less insane than it used to be, what happened to the genre?
>>
>>2954182
The sanitisation of women's comics and the death of josei. Women buy volumes of Demon Slayer now, not issues of Flowers. A lot of the stuff that was top tier shoujo back in the day would be published as shounen or seinen today and probably wouldn't get nearly as popular. Look at all the old shoujo Sci Fi, there's no way that would be published as shoujo now.
>>
>>2954199

>live action dramas based on shoujo manga further entrench that shoujo = romance
>male-MC shoujo and josei titles like Ore Monogatari and Kids on the Slope do well with men, get animes
>shounen and seinen open up to romance, even adopting some shoujo like Densha Otoko
>in the early 2010's many shoujo magazines close
>remaining shoujo editors play safe and go for gentle titles and traditional mangakas
>BL continues to do its own thing and thrives because shounen doesn't want the gays (yet)
>TL appears as a primarily online alternative to trad mags, with BL-style romance for het pairings and often explicit sex.

Through it all, BL has become extremely influential. Look at the covers of Betsuma and HanaYume, two traditional/non-TL shoujo magazines. The art styles either look very trad or share more with BL than 2000's shoujo despite containing girls. I'd even say that BL is the guiding light of shoujo for now.

At the time of publication, I thought it was Silva's worst novel.
The characters lack much of the depth or chemistry of MHTN (his best) or HIAYLM, and seem to fall in love for no beter justification than genre convention. A pity fuck at the end of the world is believable (and they don't even do that), finding a solemate in someone as drab as Mateo just strains credulity, or comes off as a massive cope.
The ticking clock scenario does have the promise of tension, since any second could be their last, but the novel squanders it with extended sequences in which nothing hapoens.

The manner of one of their deaths is also too unrealistic to be cathartic or moving.

Final verdict: a profoundly boring read notable for it's lack of note.

Hey that "Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu" updated. The first chapter got an extra page or two, and then an actual new chapter as well.
I guess that settles the question about intentions some of us speculated about.
But remember the bitching i had about the stange order/structure it had? The author literally just retroactively added a scene to chapter 1 that just changed the tone of the rest of the story, im really starting to lean into the "its out of order/made up as it goes/intentionally jarring plot progression" thing now.

Most sites show the update as a chapter 0 after chapter 6, so if you see the 2nd most recent chapter seems be chapter 1, just do that one to see the difference

Anon, those updates aren't a revised version of ch1, they are storyboards for different plot points in the story, some of which we haven't seen yet. The artist has had these on her pixiv for years now, so they are not retroactive additions but the blueprints for the current story, hence "chapter 0". Did the massive gap in art quality not tip you off?
And if we look at those pages we can see the current manga lines up with those plot points almost exactly, which means this actually has been planned out
>>
>>2954986
I wasnt talking the outright storyboards, but yeah, i that the kiss part going right into the "old woman grab his hand" actually indicated/implied it happen right before (which was chp3 not 1). I didnt see the little titles anyways.
>>
>>2954987
>I wasnt talking the outright storyboards
Then I don't know what you mean by "retroactively added", what scenes were "added"? Chapter 1 in the tanko version remains entirely unchanged from its web ace debut, there's no updated version of ch1.

As for the current realease itself, the tone has remained consistently within the horror genre, especiallythe most recent chapter.

It’s Hit on by a Kinky Guy, the (japanese) webtoon. After reading all 80+ chapters of it released thus far I can recommend it with some reservations.
It’s a TSUBO/bov manga, which means the first 20+ chapters are a hardcore mindbreak-y but somehow funny rapefest with a genuinely astonishing erotic imagination. It then takes a turn, and spends the next 60 chapters walking that premise back, with the couple falling in love and eventually going consensual. I guess the best way to describe the plot arc is “like Sneaky Red?”
The rapist redemption plot is nothing special, but the uke is extremely charming throughout the weaker half of the manga — he basically turns from blushing straight guy into a demanding power bottom with a penchant for teasing the now-apologetic seme with jokes and sex bullying — kind of like the Sakurada-senpai couple, now that I think about it. It’s a good enough read as long as you skip the melodrama and focus on the cute comedy segments.

Unfortunately, if it's Harudaki, you should just act as if it hasn't been picked up. They really should be banned from Manga Updates, it's misleading as fuck that they're allowed to post there. There's no way of joining the team even if you are highly skilled and would bring a lot to the table.
>>
>>2955177
I don't know, have you seen the Jojo doujin where they are snails?
>>
>>2955201
It's not his age that makes it a twist, but his position or role in the story. Basically the mc on the cover is the best fighter in the school who's been undefeated for years, until he learns his new teacher was the former champion and, well you know the drill. So teach decks him in 5 seconds and after they form a kinda Akamatsu/ Seven sparring dynamic. Point being, teach matches almost all the traditional checkboxes for seme (stronger, taller, more intelligent, more mature, way less emotional etc.), but then it's revealed he bottoms in a pretty casual, almost throwaway scene. It's actually really subversive when taken into context.

Other sekrid ones who do update there, you actually can join them and view their stuff, just code protected etc, but you can join. Them on the other hand, do not accept any new member for years now. If you check almost none, none of manga they have translated, has ever been picked by any other group. None of the works they have updated, more than 30 just this year are accessible to people. So that's breaking the rules, they shouldn't update there.

>Unfortunately, if it's Harudaki, you should just act as if it hasn't been picked up.
Yeah. What sucks is that BangAqua had done chapter 1 back in 2016 and then nothing until Harudaki picked it up. If I hadn't been able to read it from the start it wouldn't bother me as much. I don't know why BangAqua dropped it since they're still active, but I wish another group had picked it up before Harudaki did.
>>2955277
>If you check almost none, none of manga they have translated, has ever been picked by any other group.
No surprise, some groups tend to pick up more than they can handle already, making room for a manga someone else already translated even if they know most people won't ever see said translation is unlikely to happen.

Also, since Dear Gene is ending next issue here's my prediction:
Gene's not dead, nor is he and Trevor seperated. He's gone to visit his amish parents while Gene II stayed with Trevor. Anyway, Gene comes back and he, Trevor and Gene II have a heart-to-heart about coming out, family and staying true to yourself. Plot resolves.
We then get a nice riba scene where 30-somethibg Gene dicks down Ojisan Trevor. FIN

Upon doing further research, I have realized my question might be moot. I didn’t realize this manga was running in a seinen magazine. Good on the author for making it unambiguously BL when she didn’t have to, but it really diminishes the possibility of a happy end, let alone a sex scene.

>>
>>2955292
I was looking at MangaUpdates' FAQ and they have this little section about troll/fake releases and fairness in scanlating. I don't think anything of Harudaki's practices are "fair". If they only release their scanlations to their scanlating members, their "work" shouldn't be set as "Completely Scanlated", thus ensuring no other team works on it. There's a small discussion thread about Harudaki on MU - https://mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=129290
I can't believe the MU Admins allow it to go on. If none of their releases are allowed to be accessed, they should be banned from MU and all their releases should revert to No on Completely Scanlated so it's fair for other teams to pick them up.

>It really seemed like things were going in a different direction for a while in the late-2000s so I’m not sure what happened. The increasing price tag for games reducing people’s risk tolerance?
Probably the shift in Japanese culture and the focus on otaku pandering. Same reason you get one billion of LN adaptations nowadays where the title tells you half of the plot. Everything is more aimed at maximizing profit and pandering, games are no longer just games but multi media project you send out to launch anime/action figures/LN along.

Just look at an anime chart from 2006 vs today, there is a huge difference.

>>
>>2955440
Neither of us are saying they should stop pandering to waifufags, there's no reason to pander only to one demographic unless your game only has female characters. If having a male character's normal clothes be too sexy or expose too much is too risky, just give them alternate costumes you can find in the game or dlc costumes, that way those who don't want to see it can simply not wear those costumes.

That would be the case if he had asked if he was an illegal immigrant instead of asking if he's from abroad. My understanding is that if the other guy hadn't said that he's a japanese citizen, that guy would've asked if he entered the country legally or something, which is reasonable to me, wanting to confirm whether or not he's an illegal immigrant isn't the same as assuming he is one. Again though, I have no context and don't know what that character is like, so I could be wrong on my interpretation, but if he really was racist the other guy being half-japanese wouldn't change much to him.

is the monster confusing a close friendship as gay, does the monster even know what gay is, is dark haired kid even gay, so on so fourth. evidence: the kiss, the monster doesnt even register the kiss being a kiss, he had a different motive. and the dying words, well, it pushes for gay but isnt definitive.

also, im still looking for it, but the entire thing is basically an expansion of a oneshot doujin of very, very much amateur quality. its super neat to see someones crappy rendition get a real artist and expanded into a full on storyline with chapters.

What we know so far:

Pro:
>Author has tagged both the drafts and the final comic as BL on her pixiv
>Author has repeatedy stated on twitter she prefers to read it as BL
>Chill chill has included it, presumably with the consent of the author and publisher, in their feature on horror BL.
>Publisher has registeted it as both "BL" and "Horror BL" with the Japanese government
> Within text, "Hikaru" repeatedly states he likes Yoshiki using hard "suki".
>Copious panels of Yoshiki sneaking glances at Hikaru's body (pic)
>Copious panels of Yoshiki blushing whenever Hikaru gets too close or touches him.
>Both the neighbourhood woman, and Hikaru's father confirm the monster only ever "took" romantic partners.
> In the drafts, we learn that the original Hikaru asked the monster to convey his feelings to someone (male).

Cons:
>The magazine does not market it as BL and retailers don't advertise it as such.
> Whilst maintaining the work can be viewed as BL, Mokmok Ren has stated it will feature no sex scenes between the pair.
> Despite being repeatedly told Hikaru "likes" him, Yoshiki continues to treat Hikaru as mostly a friend, and both of them never really seem to treat the statement as if it was a romantic confession.

Given that the author has drawn EXACTLY that on her pixiv, cumshots and everything, I dare say some were expecting this, or at least hoping for a doujin. But now that she's blown up in popularity, I think both possibilities are dead.

I mean... how is it relevant? Authors starting from doujins is nothing new, but from a normal magazine I would never expect a sex scene.

Boys of the Dead needs to updated on the bin from completed -> licensed, it was just released by Kuma two weeks ago.
Has anyone else had trouble finding Kuma books at local retailers? Tokyopop Kodansha and Sublime titles are basically at any comic store, but Kuma books can be maddeningly hard to find.

Your local shops should be able order it for you they might just not know that these are books they need on their shelves so they aren't ordering them. All these shops order their books through Diamond and Kuma is absolutely available to them, they just aren't ordering it at your shops. Pick a store you want to support and let them know what books you want and see if they'll order them. I've had almost every Kuma release basically on preorder at my local shop.

Sumiya Zeniko's "Iki Dekinai no wa Kimi no Sei" also needs to be updated, as it was licensed and published by Animate as "Breathless Momentum."
How do people feel about Animate's releases so far? They started releasing titles since this January, and are basically the English-language branch of Libre (Be x Boy magazine). Are they censored? Are they translated and typeset professionally? This is their lineup so far:
>Breathless Momentum (Zenko Sumiya)
>Mask Danshi (Mitsuru Sangou)
>Kabukicho Bad Trip (Eiji Nagisa)
>Lala's Married Life (Tamekou)
>Living with Him (Toworu Miyata)
>The World's End (Sagan Akagawa)
>>
>>2955851
I'm enjoying it but I wouldn't really call it BL.
>>
>>2956053
They're the ones who cut out whole fragments of that Sagan Akagawa volume for censorship, so they can fuck themselves regardless of their quality otherwise.
>>
>>2956059
Yeah, it was pretty dumb they cut the first story form the volume because of father/son incest. They seem to be okay with dubcon (Kabukicho Bad Trip) and lewd stuff (Tamekou) so I guess incest is where they draw the line? I hope that they’ll avoid repeating the problem by more carefully selecting what to license, though.
>>
>>2955831
Japanese fujos are borderline obsessed with anything gay and treat the whole thing as more of a fictional sci-fic genre than an existing minority group, some of them unironically would bully a gay male irl and many wouldn't support them so they can't really be called a decent audience if you refuse to see the difference or anything wrong with that, that's on you
>>

>retarded generalization
>>
>>2956076
I wonder why it's always fujo that get so generalized. It's never otaku

"All fujos hate female characters", "all fujos hate yuri", "all fujos hate irl gays". Like the idea is that fujos somehow think the same.

>characters got together and everything is fine
>author needs more drama
>uke SUDDENLY has uwurexia
>so thin, so frail, so fragile
It was pathetic and cheap. What little good will the comic had managed to gather until that point instantly went out the window. It's not even like the illness shit added any drama either, it's just so boring and ONLY crops up out of the blue when it's convenient for the author. Also, the art is ugly and inconsistent.

If someone wrote a BL where one of the pairing has a severe eating disorder and it is slowly unveiled how it fucks every corner of the character's personal life even though they're getting better slowly and find love, I'd read the shit out of that the same way I read Iberiko Buta. If it were a misery fest with a brutal honesty towards the experience of having something bad like that happening, I'd read it like Cruel God Reigns. If someone like Harada, Asada Nemui or Tanato used an eating disorder for shock and edge, I'd read that. If someone wrote a wholesome story where a dude getting over anorexia finds love despite his difficult past like the Campanella manga, I'd read it. But fucking Heartstopper, man. Reading that comic was like having my brain slowly turned to mush and brained out of my ears. She managed to take a secretive, nasty, self-destructive illness that's really common in the gay community and make it twee and boring as fuck. Even Sasaki to Miyano is fucking spicier than this bland drivel. At least Miyano wants to fuck Sasaki about as badly as he wants to be fucked. At least they have some reason to like each other. I'm saying this stuff, but I find Sasaki to Miyano almost painfully dull. Heartstopper is worse. Do not bother reading Heartstopper, but if you must, pirate it.

I read some of those mangas and I appreciate them, I'm not talking about bl authors however, I was mainly referring to how your local jpn fujoshi friend would be like, overseas fujos tend to imitate their level of retardation when it comes to bl but aren't as more prevalent, of course you'd cross others who don't fit this category but chances are you wouldn't so easily. But hey some Korean and Chinese manhua/manhwas are way worse than jpn ones I'll give them that.
>>
>>2956138
Thanks for the reply, anon. I’m sorry you’ve been in such shitty fandom spaces. I agree, there are some fujos out there who aren’t socially aware, and they can be predominant in certain fandoms (Iike shounen fujos, for example, but that’s probably because they skew young).

But fujos aren’t a monolith. Those who read straight up 18+ BL manga are noticeably chiller than others, in my opinion, which might be why so many people in this thread are disagreeing with you.

>>
>>2956148
Appreciate you for trying to understand my point man yes I'm talking specifically about the type of people who genuinely think a man loving a man is a fictional concept that they themselves created or an empowering movement exclusively for women, talking with those is insufferable to say the least.

Hi Alice oseman
>>
>>2956138
I've had Jp fujo friends and I prefer to hang on the Jap side of fandom most of the time. I agree they're not half as into lgbt issues as English speaking fans, but those that actually have anything against irl gays are a stark minority. Even those that only interact with BL as complete fiction that has nothing to do with real gays don't try to say gays irl don't exist/face no problems in society, they're just not personally invested in gay rights and lives purely by the virtue of reading manga. Even that is a big generalization because you see all kinds of fujos with all kinds of awareness about lgbt and other issues, one can always choose who to hang with. The whole thing started with you deciding that the entirety of fujo fandom is not a decent audience and that it's normal to take issue with it, which is just unfair to the competely harmless majority.
Also so as not to rely only on my personal observations, here's a study on women (fujo and non-fujo) and gays' opinions on BL as well as irl gay people: https://researchmap.jp/mai.sato/published_works
I don't have enough time to translate, but it's quite interesting and relevant to the discussion. (Btw if anyone else wants to make a digest of the results, please do).

Thoughts?
>>
>>2956318
Astonishingly accurate.
The article at one point says the defining style of semes in the 2000s was "supadari" and "oresama-kei." I know what Super Darling is, but was is Oresama-kei?

This is what the article says are the trends of the 2010s:
>the three dominant genes are Dark BL, Ahoero (comical love between dense people?) and "Hapi-en" BL with a happy end
>ukes and semes looking indistinguishable
>taller ukes
>older characters
>reversible couples becoming more common
>>
>>2956320
Oresama could be translated as a haughty/arrogant man, like the name suggests it's the type of guy who would add the high '-sama' honorific to himself. (And 'kei' just means 'type')
