regarding the "one of them is a fursuit wearing furry", the idea keeps getting better in my head. i want something stupid like one of them being a non-furry, oblivious to the furry fandom, getting stuck with a shit job like being the guy who has to wear the donald duck costume at disney world and the partner getting obsessed with the idea of fucking donald duck.
>quack quack quack what the hells wrong with you quack quack quack
>o-open the b-beak
>quack glurk glurk glurk quack
"relationship problems?"
"he only wants to have sex when im donald duck"
"w-what?"
like go full send with the serious relationship drama side, but over something ludicrous. no longer attracted to them unless they are in the suit, people finding out about the duckfucker, being known as the guy who got fucked in a duck suit, yadda yadda
"you got promoted! your no longer donald duck, your mickey mouse, the star of the show!"
"oh god no please no not again"

X/1999 is getting a new premium edition, with a rerun of the tarot cards for japan residents who order every book. i see people wondering if clamp will finally finish the series, but with how ccs clear card was devoid of homo i'd hate to see how nu clamp will desecrate one of their few good series
>>
>>2992470
I'm pretty sure the first volume came out in '93, then there was another edition in 2013, so another decade later we're due for another anniversary set. I doubt Clamp would have the guts to finish it even in terms of sheer violence, aside from the no-homo debacle. I agree with you though, X is great and I'd rather it remained incomplete. It was so over the top edgy it's nostalgically lovable, and it was a rare instance for Clamp where there was a physical aspects to nearly all the romances. Even the het was decent (except for Kotori, but who the fuck cares about Kotori...)

I really fucking miss a good ass series with implied BL between the characters. It feels like years since we got anything like that. When YoI aired I thought it was a step in the right direction, instead its legacy was a bunch of mediocre ass forgettable sport shit. Can you fucking believe Kyoani still doing their mediocre ass bait free clone in the 2023?

Meanwhile fucking Gundam gets on screen lesbians even though Fujo carried the franchise so far.

Sorry to vent anons, but I'm just so frustrated. At least mangaka are starting to find some balls and actually slowly putting gay shit in their work even if as side characters (absolutely based WHA and Double authors) but it's so annoying to keep reading shit where you can even tell mangaka ships it and they tether on the edge of romance but they never take the plug. Fucking 2023 I think the only anime which we go with an explicit gay protagonist was N.6 years ago.
>>
>>2992569
Anon where have you been the last years?
Umibe, Given anime aired and is finally getting decent in the manga, the yakuza whore and his body guard, and Titan's Bride + Evologia got anime shorts.
Sasaki to Miyano also but I haven't watched it yet.
>>
>>2992569
Yuribros are very optimistic about Gundam but I think the outcome of its success will be the same as YOI's: Nothing. These sorts of things are miracles for us.
>>
>>2992569
Blame the production committee system, the studios can have all the ideas they want, but without corporate old-farts who'd agree to sponsor the production, nothing gets done. And don't sh*t on Kyoani, they're a shadow of their old self, they're doing what they can to stay afloat.
>>
>>2992570

Necromancer Survival manhwa and novel was my favorite thing I picked up in 2022, cute and a non-closeted gay mc with a real revenge plot centered around a betrayed raiding party with a typical korean modern era dungeon and guild setting. Its not that serious but its just fun, unfortunately its doesn't have explicit scenes with the mc, but some of the side characters are pretty gruesome like impregnating his own half brother with magic and keeping him alive with no limbs or tongue. Its also implied he fucks and tortures him when hes bored.

>>
>>2992217
>What was your favorite read of 2022?
2022 was a pretty great year, with strong competition and a lot of great titles.

But if there’s one bl that stood out from the rest for me, maybe not in storytelling, but in pure uniqueness, it’s gotta be Umi no Soko. Or as the board likes to call it, that Fishfucking BL.
>>
>favourite manga of 2022
If I don't count sequels (since that's a pretty easy cop-out), as well as something that wasn't mentioned here yet, I'll have to say Mitsuya Sensei no Keikakuteki na Edzuke. I like the relaxing cooking atmosphere. Plus, it doesn't feel melodramatic like other works I've seen this year, though there are many contenders who also feel pretty refreshing too. Also, nekojita scans did a fantastic job talking about the food featured in every chapter, legit above and beyond what most scans (even outside of BL) tend to research.
>>

>>
>>2992569
Take the narou pill, half of the time the characters are canonically gay-for-paysexual or "if they're pretty" with gay dudes and male prostitutes around.
>>
Weird request, but do you know any manga that's /about/ BL? The manga itself doesn't necessarily have to be BL, just about the topic of BL. Something like Metamorphose no Engawa, which is about a grandma reading BL for the first time. Sorry if the request is off-topic, but I feel BL often gets a bad rap, so it's nice seeing manga where BL is praised and given appreciation.
>>
Slam Dunk fujos are back and better than ever now that they know Ryota is a short king.
>>
>>2992856
Dunno if it's exactly what you're looking for, but in Fudanshi Kazoku the dead mom was a BL mangaka, the younger brother is one too though he has the father pretend he's the maganka and the older brother is a new fudanshi still dipping his feet in the water.
>>
Does anyone remember a oneshot/single-chaptered BL on 'dex that had a red background for the cover, and I believe a boy dressed in a yukata? There wasn't much plot, MC is in love with his friend, they go to a festival together, story ends either just before his confession or his crush's reply. The art was really good, detailed and really well drawn. Can't seem to find it for the life of me.

I got a copy of Happy of the End after my local bookstore accidently put it on sale a week early. I just finished it, and I'm going to shill it a little here with scanned pages because Tanaka really deserves some sales numbers for hitting it out of the park like this — this might be her best work, heads and shoulders above Escape Journey or Lonely to Organdy.
I love how much attention Tanaka put into even the smallest details in the plot and character writing. Like, for example, our uke, a gay homeless runaway, isn't a preternaturally beautiful twink or inexplicably has a perfect six pack. His body is awkward looking and emaciated, but it fills out slowly over the course of the manga, a development the manga never comments on but hints at the increasing strength of the character's relationship. Another great detail: there's a reason why our seme likes to wear black turtlenecks, even in the summer — the manga never spells it out, but the clues are there for you to put together.
A plot point or two may be a little melodramatic but Tanaka's psychological realism makes it all work. Please kick in $15 fujobucks so Kuma can keep translating works of this caliber (with a beautiful print quality and fully uncensored cocks + pubes too).

I didn't like the cliche quality of it, but it didn't ruin the rivals to lovers for me. Torikai's main conflict is that he feels encouraged by competing with his lovers in a friendly manner (which his exes all seemed to hate), so Yajima encouraging him to be proud of his accomplishments and being into their rivalry is why Torikai falls for him in the first place. Maybe it makes it less 'enemies-to-lovers' and more 'consensual rivals' but I kinda liked how it was handled.
>>
>>2994260
Yeah I think it made the couple feel more "developed" and have natural chemistry compared to Houen Catharsis which has fantastic development for the MC but it felt like the seme was accessory to the uke (admittedly pretty great) development.

Has anyone read Boku ga Otto ni Deau Made?
>>
>>2994331
Yeah, although I'm not sure I'd call it BL.
>>
>>2994331
Yes, it was good albeit felt a bit brief. The titular idea to present the MCs struggles before meeting his life partner was fresh, but at the same time as a reader I felt like the whole story progressed fast and the ending was a bit abrupt. Nonetheless it works as a well executed short overview of the struggles gay people face in Japan, told from the author's very personal perspective.
>>
>>2994325
Asada Nemui literally just posted an extra on Twitter about Sada’s past so that might shed some light on his dynamics. I’m guessing he does both because he offered to give Mamiya a bj and said he could stick his dick in on a different twitter extra. I think Mamiya is just clueless and has too much baggage to do anything right
>>
>>2994325

I completely missed the moment it got licensed but Rumspringa is now available with official translation on Book Walker: https://global.bookwalker.jp/de3cca62f9-5988-487b-9552-bc1d02afee3a/
It should be moved to the licenced section of the pastebin/controlc.
If someone's read the official version, how does it look compared to the scans?

Even though I hate Medibang, I’m glad that this confirms that Rumspringa’s English license is for sale. I assumed that Kaya or maybe Comic Chocolat didn’t want the title to appear in English, because otherwise I struggle to think of reasons why it wasn’t licensed already.
>>

I enjoyed it. I liked the main characters, both being autistic and detached in their own way but slowly finding comfort and reciprocal admiration in each other. I know some anons criticize wholesome/healing stories for being too boring, but I thought this one's well written.

Gonna review this shit for you two. Haven't done this for a while so forgive me if I'm rusty.
The first few pages had me worried, not going to lie. The old scanlation has a fuckton of typos and shit, but it had some nicely lyrical moments that made it worthwhile. I thought the new one would probably be a bit more literal, and I wasn't wrong.

However, as I kept reading, the dialogue in the licensed version was significantly smoother and more pleasant to read. I found myself getting lost in the story and characters like I was reading it for the first time. Their personalities shine more in this licensed version, though it does take a chapter to hit its stride.
The typesetting is definitely more boring in the licensed version but it has less weird ugly quirks than the scan. Really, we all know this manga deserves a Kuma-tier release so the quality of the typesetting can match the art. But I got used to this style quickly. It didn't bother me too much.

Another reason we need a Kuma-tier release: DICKS.
But to my great surprise... This version has considerably more dick than the scan! To be honest, I'm not 100% convinced of Azuma Kaya's dick drawing skills, but still. It was great to be able to see the action better. There's at least one decent shot of Oz's hole too.

This edition really began to shine towards the end. I was left with the impression that the translator enjoyed the parts about Amish culture the most. Some of those parts were just really nice to read. Theo and Danny's relationship was also much clearer in this edition.
However, as you can see from this page, I wonder how good the editor was. It's not full of typos or anything, but there are enough weird little errors and strange turns of phrase that I can't help but think it needed one more round of editing or something.
Overall, I give this edition a 4/5. A serviceable but cheap licensed edition with a little more charm than a lot of these have. A solid step up from the scan, which I'd give a 3/5. Not as big a step up as the version of Tasogare Outfocus on Bookwalker, which raises a manga with a 2/5 scanlation to also a 4/5 licensed edition. Not as good an outcome as Futekiya's recent version of Iberico Buta, which took a 2/5 scan to a 5/5.

I've always liked the works from the mangaka, and Takara no Biidoro is no exception. It's cute and the art style is really pretty. I also just like the dynamic of an innocent uke pursuing a tsundere seme because it's usually the opposite. Also >>2994431 for why the story works.

Also just recently finished reading Himitsu no Asa ni wa Kiss no Ame and I regretted it. It was pretty cute for the first 4 chapters and then the seme became an asshole out of nowhere in chapter 5. The translation is also still ongoing and I can't even have the satisfaction of seeing the story ends. For a better version of "two actors get close and intimate with each other to improve their acting skill" kind of story, try After-Shoot Snack, Bukiyouna Lion, and Engide Iikara Tabetekure instead.

Thank you for your service, anon.
One of the issues about the editing in the licensed version seems to be their stubborness about using one font size and one font size only per page.

Scanlations like this remind me of how I still have mixed feelings about making the leap (learning Japanese once and for all), I can't read a single scanlation these days because of my newfound translation autism, yet I prefer to read stuff in English if possible.

Boku no Papa to Papa no Hanashi
ぼくのパパとパパの話
The Story of Me, Daddy and Daddy
>>
Just finished rereading Motoyan Papa to Hitsuji-sensei and its sequel and I love it even more this time around. First of all, the fact that Hinata the kid ended up not having a crush on Hitsuji-sensei is already a pleasant surprise. I also like how natural the progression of Hitsuji and Hatoyama's relationship feels. They're just two former high school friends that by coincidence reunited with each other. Hitsuji did have a crush on Hatoyama before, but not to the point of making it his one and true love. He barely remembered Hatoyama when they first met again even. The way the manga portrayed their development is really sweet and touching. I also love that later on Hatoyama realized that he can be a good dad even without Hitsuji there, but his presence there within their family is what makes it complete, they can be at their happiest when they're all together.

Maybe I've just gotten mushy with age, but I used to not care that much for BL with kids, and yet I find them very appealing nowadays.

I feel kind of duped. I've always heard how heartwarming and emotional this manga is, and yet by the end of it I was left feeling underwhelmed. Like that's it? Am I missing something here? The whole story just felt too....vignettey for me. The breakup was so sudden and out of nowhere, the reunion was uneventful. They grew old together and died, that's sad I guess, but I've also already read Complex years ago and that manga did the whole thing better.

Anyone here that actually likes the manga and can explain why is it so loved?

I really didn’t expect a manga of this caliber from Soutome Emu. The pacing of the plot, the loving dynamic of the relationship, and the hot sex every chapter: everything is perfect.
>>
>>2994834
It's been years since I read this and I don't remember my exact thoughts on why I dislike it, but from what I remember of the story the seme is trash, irredeemable trash, his reason for the break up, hurting that woman he married too, then at the end when the author could've given him some redemption by having the uke be the one who dies first making the seme regret the years he spent away from the uke even more, they made the uke have to suffer for years again. I don't care if they got their happy ever after in heaven, I wasn't happy, it wasn't a satisfying ending. It may not be the worst thing I've ever read, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
>>
>>2994857
Lmao it's just in comparison to this one manga, at least the whole "separated then reunited then grew old together until they died" storyline was way more developed there.

>>2994875
Yea it fucking sucked. Their reunion is especially disappointing, uke slapped seme once then they made up and had sex and had a slight argument about refrigerator?? I guess life is too short to hold grudges but that just frustrated me so much.

I feel like you're coming from Life Senjou no Bokura from the wrong angle. You have to embrace vignettey-ness of the manga -- when it comes to vignettey literature the appeal is more in how each little snippet metaphorically and stylistically resonates with the other snippets and builds to a larger thematic whole, rather than following a plot or character development.
The big reoccurring image of the manga is the white line roadmarker, which is how the couple meet in the first place. "Following this line leads me to someone important" thinks the uke in the second chapter — romance is a straight line to each other, then continuing on (apparently) endlessly. The seme also believes in the straight line going to the future, but he thinks the future holds a stable family life and kids and is shocked when the uke quits his stable job for the risky life of the writer. It feels like their lives are going in different directions. First the seme, and then the uke, realizes how silly their old way of looking at relationships is -- at the end of the third chapter the uke follows one last white line on the side of the road, but then stops and cries when he hits the end of the line: he realizes that all straight roads have an end.
The climax of the manga happens in front of the aurora borealis in Alaska, after the couple has spent eight years apart growing and maturing on their own. Their relationship had dissolved in the first place because the seme felt he and the uke were going in different directions, but here is a beautiful image of curly, multidirectional lines that branch off each other: a visual contrast to the straight white line that doomed their relationship. The couple realizes that the "ups and downs" of their relationship are better thought of like waves, coming and going in cycles, and they decide to forgive each other.
>>
>>2994930
part 2
I know that sounds like a reach, but consider what the seme says when he finally catches sight of the aurora: "it looks like a line drawn in the sky." The manga ends on this note as well: "together in joy and in sorrow," the moral of the story.
I enjoyed this kind of thematic cleverness in Life Senjou, it reminded me of old school shoujo. This is what elevates the manga beyond its melodramatic plot, just like those old Year 24 Group classics.
>>2994875
It's clear that this manga is about learning and maturing over time, so the seme being trash in his thirties but a good husband in his forties is appropriate imo. The manga shows that the uke is a good-natured and cheerful old man even after his partner dies, which makes sense: he learned long ago that any romance has its ups and downs, and the time after your partner's death is the "down," but you just have to wait a while and you will reunite in heaven (the "up").

Sorry for spamming, but I forgot to mention that in retrospect I think my biggest problem with the manga is that I just didn't enjoy the vignette-style storytelling that this manga used. I wonder if The Summer Hikari Died is gonna have a kiss. The oneshot had it and was borderline BL but overall the manga made the relationship less romantic, it's more about friendship than straight love while also adding some homoerotism in some scenes.
