I have encountered GMs who relied on copying and pasting AI-generated text before: https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/96077242/#96077242I have been seeing this more and more. For example, I joined this one Daggerheart game. The GM has been flip-flopping between simplistic sentences and LLM-generated text.Examples:>This game takes place in the world of Dispatch—a living, breathing city where danger erupts without warning and heroes are the thin line holding everything together. I’ll be your DM, but in this world, you’ll know me as your Dispatcher. I’m the voice in your ear, the one who tracks the chaos, the one who sends you and other heroes into the field when Manhattan needs you most.>Your missions will range from capturing dangerous villains to rescuing civilians, stopping escalating threats, uncovering hidden plots, or confronting unknown anomalies. Dispatch calls don’t wait. They hit fast, loud, and unpredictable. When that call goes out, you suit up, step forward, and answer it.>Using Daggerheart’s Duality system—Hope and Fear—we’re shaping a flexible, evolving ruleset that grows with both the world and your characters. Every mission will test your skills. Every choice will shape the city around you. And as the story unfolds, we’ll refine and expand the system together, adapting it to the heroes you become.>This is a world where your decisions matter, where Hope fuels your rise, where Fear pushes back, and where every Dispatch shapes the next chapter. You’re not just playing a character. You’re becoming a symbol. And this:>► Duality Blessings (Doubles)Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>The necromancer is just a weird creepy guy but is otherwise harmless>The Illusionist is the real evil guy, able to trap you in a well of unreality
>>97097191The notion of "necromancy is evil" is fine but it's weird that when a group of fire mages carpet-bomb civilians with napalm they're treated much more leniently. Really makes you think.
>>97097227Naruto
>>97097191>>97097212It's certainly not outdated. People would still find it gross and unnatural for a zombie to crawl out of a grave, and they wouldn't be happy if you dug up their dead relative in order to use their bones to make a chair. It doesn't matter if it's 'utilitarian' to put those bones to a more practical purpose than rotting in the ground.Beyond that, evil necromancy is necessary for it to even make sense as distinct form of magic. If there's nothing special about animating a pile of bones, then you could also simply animate a pile of sticks and get the same results. And if there is something unique and special about corpses that makes them easier to animate compared to a statue or anything else, then it also makes for a far better setting if it's dark magic. Because then necromancy serves as a tempting shortcut to power, rather than just being objectively more efficient for no reason.
>>97097191This >>97097212There was a point in time where necromancy was so played-out that exploring alternative ways of looking at it was interesting. Now *that* bullshit is even more played-out and annoying.>"What if zombies... But they're the heckin' good guys?!"At some point, just accept that desecrating corpses to make zombie soldiers is just inherently bad and stop trying to sell people on it, goddamn. Even if it's not literally evil in the cosmic sense (It usually is.) what kind of freak is even going to get into that magic in the first place? Even if the magic itself wasn't evil, the kind of weirdo freak who's going to seek out those powers is going to be several orders of magnitude more likely to be an evil lunatic.
>>97097191>The notion of "necromancy is evil" is a weird and outdated concept, for sure.I don't know.I think it's more relevant now than ever.Like with how people are trying to bring loved ones back with AI, or making dead people speak. Most people who see people do stuff that recognize it as ahborrent.
Leslie Fish, fantasy folk artist passed today. Her music helped inspire me on some fun Traveller sessions back in the day.How do you use music in your games? Do you spend much time curating a playlist or just use the first playlist you find?
>>97091947o7
>>97088879Mostly for in game music that is taking place at the time. I used some of those songs when the players enter the Starport bar. Same with fantasy inns, playing a tune and saying "Walking through the night, your characters hear this in the distance" and playing a particular tune (Windrose for Dwarves, Rivendale Ambience for elves, Bilbo's party music for hobbits and peasants, etc) lets them know what they might be approaching. I also sometimes use sounds for what is happening in the background, burning fires, battles, horns, pipes, animal roars etc. Show don't tell.
>>97088879>Leslie Fish, fantasy folk artist passed today.Well that's a sad note to end the day on. I actually learned of her music through /tg/ over a decade ago, so I've associated her body of work with the nerds of this board for a while now. Figures that I'd hear of her passing through here as well. RIP to a good one.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyTIt4AioEI
I've brought up Filk music to help with worldbuilding in 2 of my last 3 campaigns. Love sharing the genre with people. This one hurts. "For space is wide and good friends are too few."
>>97091947heads up FYI, there's a guy that found tapes in higher qualities than that one.https://youtu.be/qxjNmjcI4Jo?si=uEbzHFQ72prN1GrD
I still think this book was the best way to manage martials. 4e's "daily" powers etc for fighters made them all feel samey (at least on the surface). 5e's battle master has no scaling.I'm sure at this point we can all agree the Tome of Battle got too much flak.
>>97096434>part of the game>Critical miss tablePick one and only one.
>>97094364Anything the fighter can do, another class can do more easily with no compromises. The DM can't do anything about this without changing the rules, which is an admission that the rules are bad.
>>97096402>The self-healing is probably the most magical thing on the whole listNot helped by D&D interchangably using HP to represent luck, morale, superficial harm, stamina, and abstract alive-ness, but only sometimes explicitly wounds, injuries, and bleeding.

I want to design a sort of alchemy system where I can use the 12 zodiac signs + 5 weeks per month (4 monthly weeks + 1 full moon week), + 5 element types (4 greek elements + ether). But I want sort of have 256 goddesses that can be summoned using a combination of those 3 dates. What I want is more or less design a mythological system with a fake religion to justify this alchemical system to summon goddesses as some chemical periodic table of magical alchemy.
>>97097092okay
>>97097092Sounds very convoluted. The starting point I would use would be Water. Greek myth already had lots of nymphs for seas and rivers, so having the 60 water-goddesses each associated with a particular body of water gives you a more concrete starting point. I know the zodiac itself has some elemental and date associations per sign, so you could probably make a handful of more prominent water goddesses based on the date Pisces/Cancer is at a zenith, or the start/end dates or something. Then you can sort things from oceans to seas to rivers. Could also have each one be the patron of a particular aquatic animal. Pisces might be fish as a whole, but other goddesses are her daughters and represent more specific ones. So there's a salmon goddess of one river. That would also make things easier in terms of alchemy, since it means that bits of certain animals or water from specific places is alchemically significant in some way. Earth is probably the next easiest, where you can use various types of metal and gemstones. That'd require grouping things together where possible, like having the copper/silver/gold goddesses be a set of sisters, or ruby/sapphire/emerald being triplets. Hitting 60 should be doable enough.Fire is harder because it's less tangible, which doesn't work out as well for alchemy, but if we assume that the sun is associated with fire, then what you could use as a basis is plants. There's plenty of flowers and trees out there with significant meanings in either folklore or flower arranging, and the goddess shows up when you light it on fire, and the ashes are also alchemically significant.Air is probably the trickiest one, since not only is it less tangible, but even if you wanted to be lazy and just resort to birds, there aren't really that many distinctly meaningful birds out there. Ether is even more nebulous, and doesn't even have any zodiac signs.

What are the essentials of a sword and sorcery setting? What sets it apart from other fantasy genres in setting and tone?
>>97096799They were pretty heavy correspondents. I would strongly urge anyone to read their letters.
>>96944273Sword and Sorcery is raw in a way tourists really can't interface with, and has a sort of underlying poetry that is lost on redditor types. It's also noticeably 20thC. american in a way that euros are too midwit gay to really do properly. What makes the genre is so interconnected that you can't really subvert any of these rules without completely undoing the structure of the genre.>Freedom is the highest ideal, slavery the most prolific evil, Civilizations lean towards the latter to exist. This is the american thing that euros struggle with because it's such an underlying feature and they all live in such miserable, autistic dystopias. Subjugation is THE evil of the genre and it's insanely pervasive, villains build their empires on the backs of slaves and ensnare creatures and gods. Likewise heroes exist to be self-possessed. Inversely the freedom of barbarianism is a positive thing, and even evil savages are not so torturous as the generals and kings whose tactics allow them to be much more dangerous. Heroes are salt of the earth types whose simplicity is virtuous. Heroes can be somewhat complicated but they ultimately take the most direct approach to solving problems. Politics by extension is a trap.>Butal violenceShock and awe is key to the combat. Tactics and strategy are the tools of the civilized villains. Likewise monsters aren't friendly, they're brutal savage creatures trying to survive like you are. >Unapologetic sexualityThe genre's portrayal of women is a sore spot for fat girls and their fat simps that gave them a fat voice. In reality there are 3 major archetypes, the princess, the heroine, and the femme fatale, and the sexual nature of each is integrated into their wider characters as they relate back to that whole freedom/slavery thing. Most of them are usually in possession of their sexuality UNLESS they are enslaved/ensnared by a sorceror/tragic backstory/ whatever. The male heroes of the genre tend not to rape them either.
