There are a few things you want to get as close to perfect as you can with figure studies, first are the line of the shoulders and the tilt of the hip. doesn't matter which landmark you use to check it, but make it as accurate as possible.
When trying to understand curves like the leg contours or breast shapes, use straight lines first, as few as you can and start adding more as you begin to see the form more clearly.
Be careful with adding shapes like the circles in the shoulder where its not really attaching to anything in particular, and will probably make you lose accuracy. Also don't chicken scratch, for contours, lightly erase and then go over the form once you develop the outline with the nuance you want, finding form and outlining are two separate steps.

asked a few times but haven't gotten a serious answer. how did you build up your intuitive understanding of space, should i continue doing loomis mannikins from imagination or design backgrounds and vehicles per Robertson. Both? or other methods recommended?

assume I'm, at least high beg, I can in rotate ze cube, and don't completely fail at placing figures in space currently, just want to get better. Things I'm struggling with for example are figuring out where the unseen edge of say a pinky finger would emerge from a hand from imagination and of course more exotic foreshortening.

I'm against categoricals. What kind of brush to use depends on what you want the result to look like.
I support the idea of starting simple but decisive. If you can't define sharp change, your gradients will be even more silly anyway.
But you can play with anything, just do not think you need a special brush that will make you a better artist. This is why it is recommended to just stick to hrb while you are a dummy.

Hi guys, I've been getting back into digital art these days and it's kicking my ass. I've mostly been doing studies to see what I can learn from my inspirations, and I got to the Bloodborne art book.

I'm really struggling to replicate this kind of texturing, not just from an art perspective but rather not knowing what tools to use. When I try to blend things the way I see them it just becomes a pain in the ass because I have no clue what brush to use for what so it doesn't take an eternity.

Can anyone who knows wtf they're doing tell me more about this? Pic related.

I wanted to draw a a girl and a mustang 2024 model in perspective while being relatively proportional to eachother (more or less)
At first and second glance does the perspective look ok.
Ofc the bodywork wont 100%match the lines of the original car. I still cant do that.
>>

Anon, Krita is enough for whatever you want to do. It is already a pro level tool. Just try it. Unless you work for marvel, Disney or any big Hollywood studios forcing you to do shit on 8k with a million edit effects in photoshop, you will be more than covered by Krita.

all I'm asking is that I already have csp, but people notoriously think it's shit for painting. apparently, csp has a reputation for being a line-art only program, so I'm wondering if that's really the case, or if I should try out Krita for painting. I've been trying to paint in csp, and it's been shit, either because of my skills, or the brush engines there. idk

What program do you use? Really you should just download a bunch of textured brushes and try them out to find the ones you like the best. Pay attention to not overrendering things as well.

I wanted to try this style so I went onto the csp store and downloaded the first rake brush I saw and used it combined with the prepackaged brushes to make this. It took me so fucking long and looked horrible most of the way, so I gave up on doing a full rendering.

try finding some speedpaints in the style you want and watching their process of drawing. You could also look into photobashing for some of the teaxtures.

So I'm just going to take a stab in the dark and say you have a Nasuverse/Type Moon influence going on here. Mainly from how you've styled the face and the more minimal clothing design. Is she a riding jockey?

For me it feels like the design is a little too plain, which could just be me. Feels very Melty Blood/Tsukihime esque. I feel like the design could have a little more to it. Specifically coming that could break the silhouette a little more like a small pouch on the straps around her thighs. Maybe some type of ornament like a necklace etc.

Her weapon design also feels like it could have a more interesting shape to it. I'm not exactly sure what it's meant to represent but it doesn't automatically scream threatening weapon to me.

Her pants could also have some additional impressions of detail. I'm certain the type of pants don't have belt loops but the seams and stitching should be visible to give it more interest.

I've never engaged with Nasuverse, but I get why you'd assume so. The outfit is a riding jockeys yeah, but its also a personal appeal of mine and i'm fine with it being plain since it matches her as a character. The weapon is meant to be a guillotine on a stick essentially, I wanted its design to be pretty angular. My older drawings have a seam along the pants, I was just lazy and forgot them here. I am thinking of adding more to the straps such as knives. Thank you sincerely for the feedback.

it depends on your goals and your interests. one might be more beginner-friendly than the other but not as personally compelling for you and harder to slog through. just pick what seems more compelling and fits your goals. if they both more or less have the same appeal, do a coin flip and go through one and stick with it. the books will always be there to go over again. just go through one, try your best, and accept that things will not go perfectly.

yea this was unhelpful. Constructing proper height in perspective isnt multiplication. I found a quick enough cheat that I think loomis is using here, but constructing a same height bottom and top plane requires some messing around with finding your station point.

This is a much rougher sketch (and a much more challenging but fun pose.) but I was able to catch myself a bit more with drawing things out of perspective. However, I'm sure there's more mistakes that I'm blind too at 5AM that I'll be more conscious about after sleep.
>>
>>7171625
While it's definitely awkward at first, once you get into the rhythm of it it feels much easier to experiment with your sketches compared to traditional.

Having one of these things makes it so you can easily adjust brush sizes with the wheel. Then only adding the shortcuts you actually use on these keys.

When you don't have to open up any menus to quickly lasso something, transform mode, warp the size or shape of the selection it becomes really intuitive.

That being said, that period when you're not comfortable with all this it does feel shitty trying to remember shortcuts or how to get whatever program to do what you want it to do.
>>
>>7171625
Either you get used to it, find solutions for the problems you have, or give up.
>have to learn the actual software and a billion shortcuts
You only need to learn a few parts of the program as you go. Stop thinking that just because something is there, you need to learn it all at once.

Got a question about how objects rotate in perspective drawing. Pic related.

Two of the vanishing points are below the canvas. Red arrows in pic point to them. The red circled prism is what I am trying to draw the skateboard to look like, but some of the planes are pointing away from the top vanishing point. The prism with the A, B, and C labels at the center of the canvas is where the skateboard should be.

Do I have to make every line in 3-point perspective drawing align towards a vanishing point? If so, how do I achieve this downward rotated angle?

I feel like I'm doing a math problem at this point.

Lately I'm reading many comments like this, and I wonder if that's a thing happening with the new generations. The lack of creativity and motivation, they have no soul inside them it seems. I don't think it's their fault, but a result of a deliberate program by the global corporations. They created the perfect consumer, a numb blob, that doesn't think, just consume. It doesn't create, just consume. I'm so certain about it, and at the same time, I don't want that to be truth, I hope I'm just being paranoid.

I don't think it's the corporations but yea.
I used to be way more creative when i was younger, i'd dream up Dragon Ball ocs in the class and it would bring me so much joy the teacher would ask me why the hell am i staring out into the space and grinning like an idiot.

I think i cucked myself out of creativity by being very self-deprecative throughout my teenage years. I just assume that every nub of an idea is dumb and not really worth pursuing.

Idk how to fix that. I have the desire to create but not much else.
>>
>>7171860
I have a normal job, fixing things. But that's not the topic, what I mean is that earlier generations had a motivation to draw shit, to create our own version of stuff out there. Whatever that could be. But today, right now, this generation is drowning in an ocean of content and their brains are starting to rot, they don't need anything, they don't feel the need to imagine something, to create something. There's no time, there's a never ending line of media content and products waiting for that little instant of a second for them to step up and fill that second in their brains. "They" are killing a whole generation's creative brain capacity. I'm not making a right or wrong judgement, but stating a fact, that IT IS happening.
And the solution? maybe content needs to be curated, by parents and people in charge. A kid doesn't have to be bombarded by content 24/7/365, so parents "can do other stuff", or the kid to be "entertained" ALL THE TIME, they don't even sleep anymore with the damn screen-phone attached to their face.
>>
>>7171883
I'm asking this in good faith. Do you have any advice/solutions for a guy afflicted with the mindnumb lethargy?

Well you're here for a reason. You want to be a creative entity, imagine things, put it them on paper, to see them materialized, from your brain to a physical form. To be shared by a community, and to feel that joy of creation. That essential thing is in there, you just have to find the way to express that, to make it happen, and have fun. There must be a dream project for you, there is one always for everyone.
>>
>>7171891
I'm one such anon. Honestly kinda hoping that if i increase my skills the ideas will come, since i'll be more experienced with the medium.
I want to "be creative" and "make things" but it's not like you can force yourself to get an idea you're passionate about

feel like im missing out on a lot of subtleties of how the head curves when i draw these with construction and not line. Loomis is so fucking subtle in his construction its hard to internalize initially. Maybe this is good enough as a start idk.

just start writing down your dreams and going out more. you cant be 'inspired' by being in your room all the time. Make a sketchbook of industrial landscapes, natural landscapes, people, random objects etc.

I post stuff here as many anons, For personal fun, and others. I have my issue resolved already. As long as I have two eyes, two hands and a tablet I'll die having a laugh drawing bullshit for fun. I create my own fun. A self-thinking creative entity. That's what it's being erased right now. Look at that AI monstrosity, what do you think that shit will do to people's creative brain? It's a brain killing machine.

I'm not sure to what extent creativity is a trainable skill and to what extent it's a personality trait, it's definetly a bit of both though. Creative kids aren't usually scribbling super interesting shit, but just "knight from a video game fighting" or whatever, and as they develop their skills they become capable of more and more nuanced creativity. Creativity grows as your visial library grows, and as your skill at lateral thinking grows.

I think if you wanna become a gmi you need an an autistic hyperfixation on something. Even if you get good, if you're uncreativie, you'll just be a fan artist pornographer, and that's assuming you can draw enough to get good without the power of a hyperfixation forcing you to.

So figure out what it is you like. There's stuff I have to draw or I die, and so much o f it I'll never finish it all, because I know what it is I like, what my autistic hyperfixation is.

I agree with anon that you seem to know what you're doing but get lost before you make a full commitment to your drawing. If your sketching a full body you should sketch the full body and proportions before going into the smaller details. You're not bad anon, just change your process and keep learning

I guess one thing I notice now is that viewer shouldn't be able to see this much of the top plane of the head.
>>7171997
Thanks! Good redraw tho
>>
>>7172167
But how you make it?
>>
>>7172180
As another anon suggested, try not to symbol draw with a triangle and a pupil. Look up references of seductive eyes and try to recreate that with your own interpretation. Find what makes eyes appealing to you and apply them here. For me, I'd find it more appealing with a more half open at rest seductive gaze than what you have now.

Also, I know you didn't ask for advice on it but the breasts are bothering me. They're far too spherical and round. Breasts are like water balloons full of sand, they should droop down especially from the weight of they're large. Boobs are almost never going to be perfect circles. The bottom of the breasts should be wider than the top as they're being pushed up by her arm so a good amount of the boob fat as it were is going to be resting against the arm with the top of the breast tapering off on the top. Think a tear drop shape.

just look at an eye and draw what it looks like, if you want to stylize it, look at a style you like and copy that

ideally do both. learn what an eye looks like and the actual structure of it looks like, then see how you favourite artist translates that into a drawing.

I feel your face is weak but I actually really like the rest of the drawing,

anyway heres my sketch of the day someone pls critique

Ah shit, you actually drew something instead of asking how without posting work, my bad anon. That's on me for not reading.

hope you take this token of goodwill, also for the eye it's hard to make it appealing since it's kinda covered in shadow, for that I would have to increase the size/resolution in order to add more detail.

This is a comparison so retarded that only someone who neither draws nor plays music could have come up with it.
>>
>>7172356
A lot of times i've seen people here asking for advice on a book or task and you niggers either don't answer or just say "howie" without even responding to the question. So yeah it is like that.
>>
>>7172355
The real problem is there's a lot of people who ask stupid short questions so they deserve no answer, or short simple answers.

What you give is what you get. Imagine asking a programmer, "How do I program" what do you mean how? What do you want to program? What's the purpose of the software? who's the target audience? Do you have any references for code other people have used that would work well for what you're trying to accomplish?

When you get down to it, howies are either just trolling and don't actually want answers or they are genuinely too stupid to do any of the legwork to ACTUALLY ask proper specific questions.

So because of this people just jump the gun and lose any good faith for the 1% of people who are genuinely asking (No need to assume they are good faith unless they actually post work and make an effort)
