It just depicts one fictional pilot and how, in his fictional story, he ended up as a kamikaze. All I saw are men ashamed of what they and their kamikaze comrades have done. No one is proud about it, no one tries to claim it didn't happen. I don't think there is even a successful kamikaze in the whole movie that I can remember. The few actions scenes show Americans on carriers, and not in any poor light, destroying every zero that got close.
