Essentially what they were going for is that Char’s upbringing as the prodigal son of Zeon gave him a massive superiority complex that bordered on psychopathic, and this stuff gets paid off in the final Amuro confrontation when Char realizes how much this complex has changed him. That said, having a 7? Year old pilot a guntank is still fucking absurd.
