bought this game 10 years or so ago and i played it on and off across the years, still very trash at it, does someone have any good tips, cheese strategies or even just some random stories, please post.

Temporal Wardens are OP as fuck, if you want to win they are a good choice.
HP is basically the only stat that matters for the first 20 levels or so, use whatever gear has 40+ life on it.
Movement Infusions are overpowered, abuse them.
Don't do Vaults. Don't do the Crypts (with the girl being sacrificed), it is probably the most dangerous area in the game.
>>
Is the original ToME still up somewhere? Is it worth looking for or too undercooked?
>>
>>3476285
Isn't this the game with the pozzed character creation?
>>
>>3476406
no, this is the roguelike that slapped dragon age mechanics and bad graphics and lore to attract people who don't usually play roguelikes

there might be newer versions somewhere else. i think some guys was working on tome2.

>the link to the source on that page is actually dead
>2.3.3 doesn't exist on the main website's downloads page
>or in the thankfully accessible /dl/src
Hardly surprising considering the last update was almost 20 years ago, but still.
>>
For my money Infra Arcana is still the best RL.

I've been conditioned to kill him on sight by now.

Wew.

My best tips:
>Equipment with max HP bonuses are amazing for survival early. Towards the mid/late game you want resistances instead of HP
>Movement infusions are king: Use them to get out of dangers situations, always flee to fight another day
>Temporal wardens, Paradox mages and Solipsists are overpowered classes if you want to win
>>

i learned the hard way to avoid vaults. Nothing like opening a door in a lvl 16 area and finding a lvl 32 lich waiting you KEK

There is an addon that unlocks all the races and classes, so you dont have to unlock everything. I recommend it, especially if you ever reinstall.

Every class is good, except for rogues imo. Archmage and Oozemancers are easiest easy mode, probably of any roguelike. Archmages are busted if you can get an early rune of reflection, one of the BEST arcane items in the game. Oozemancers can kill most enemies while they are offscreen and have great survivability.

Most roguelikes put a lot of value on movement skills and get out of jail cards. TOME has many options. People have mentioned movement infusions. Teleport runes are also pretty good. Many classes have some kind of movement skills you should strongly consider.

Much of the game is full of what tends to be called "popcorn" enemies, little mooks that you just need to pop with a minor dps skill or your basic melee attack. Find a bread and butter low cost low cooldown skill and use it on all the bears and snakes and spiders of the game. Keep your bigger skills off cool down so you can always panic buttons in case you chase an enemy and you round the corner around some scary shit.

Some enemies are scary, some are terrifying if you get them as a unique variant. If you are unsure of a unique, get out of there and try to make sure you face it one on one, or just leave.

You get a series of escort missions. These are crucial to fleshing out your character, and you only get a finite number of them. If you are going to play an anti-mage, you can transport them to zigur for non-arcane options. Having any arcane skills will prevent you from learning anti-magic.

Lots of people are recommending maxing health early on but I disagree. Max your main dps stat to 50, followed by Con. Many enemies are going to be dangerous and you should be interested in killing everything asap. Most classes can explode common threats and early bosses easily until you get to the Master.

Rogues suck because their stealth gimmick doesn't scale to the end game. There's a point in the game where you're just facing hordes of enemies everywhere. It's no good sneaking up and stabbing one orc mage when on the next turn his 40 brothers are going to instantly detect you and blast you bits.
All classes have their way of fighting, whether it's a warrior with survivability or a mage with extreme damage output. A rogue has fucking nothing.
>>
>>3480801
Nah, rogues are okay because they have good survivability with Trained Reactions, even when their damage is below average.
Some classes like Summoner just have no survivability at all.

>>3476285
Try the addon "Automatic Talent Gambits". It makes the game twice as fun for me. Also, Oozemancer is almost a pure AOE class if you just want to wreck everything. And their stuff doesn't even damage friendlies, which is infuriating on other classes. Almost impossible to kill as well. (Never fight your clone or you'll be stuck.)
>>
>>3480827
Damn, I forgot about Summoner. What a joke of a class. I wonder if they would be better if their summons had no time limit, like necro skeletons.
>>
>>3480827
Yeah i have scouting someone and accidentally killing the scout because my AOE exploded him
>>3480837
I was playing as summoner the other day. After level 25 things got really fucked but the summons were fun for a time.
>>
Of all the roguelikes out there why do retards obsess over the absolute worst one that plays like shitty turn based diablo? Just depressing.
>>
>>3481124
Cause roguelikes are a shit genre and the one game that's least roguelikeish turns out as its biggest success.
Fucking imagine my shock anon.
>>
>>3476285
>Everyone naming strong classes
>Only a single mention of Solipsists
For shame.

>>3481255
>turns out as its biggest success.
The biggest/most successful modern roguelikes are probably either Qud, DCSS or CDDA. Definitely not TOME, as much sway as it holds.
>>
>>3481124
More like shitty turn based Diablo and Dragon Age mixed. Basically because it's easy and has flashy effects.
>>
tome4 is fun because you can powerfantasy most classes into a monster, but many of the high end special enemies are also power fantasy monsters. Its very fun to get awesome gear that works great with your current build and go wild, but youre rarely so powerful that some of the special bosses cannot put you in your place. Nothing like a boss getting a crit on their Massive Blow, hitting you into a wall, and instagibbing you through your plate armor to remind you that you needed to play safe once in a while.
>>
>>3481255
>turns out as its biggest success
But ToME isn't a big success.

No, you mistook it with your birth.

>>3481814
ToME4 is a babby roguelike for weak millennials though.

Reworked Brawlers let you faceroll over a good portion of the game. They have two skills that scale with two stats which passively buff all their other stats. Max those two to be good at everything, then max a buffed stat to have double what anyone would normally. If that doesn't make it easy enough be a skeleton with another stat raising skill that raises one of your buffed and scale stats.
