Thoughts on the Super7 Transformers line? I have Optimus, Megatron, and Grimlock and they’re not that bad. Some cool, deep cut accessories as well.
>>
>>10992437
The ones that don't transform? Who cares?
>>
>>10991718 #
"Slam dunk" is a little strong for Kingdom Rodimus. The bar for Rodimus is low because even the original toy is shit, but Kingdom has a lot of issues for being a big $80+ suped up Voyager.
>>
>>10992437
Horrible articulation and boring sculpts for a ridiculous price. Accessories are cool to be fair but if I'm getting a non-transforming TF figure I expect it to be more poseable than its transforming brethren, especially for that price. IIRC Prime's elbows don't even bend 90.
>>
>>10992411
Most things hang around for awhile. I've had lousy luck in brick and mortar, but on Amazon they usually pop back up for MSRP after the preorders are fulfilled. BBTS and Pulse usually keep stock for awhile too. I'm not super concerned. I've never understood the preorder desperation for most of this stuff. Even imports almost never require it.

Now THIS dickhead being unsellable for two years straight is why we're getting his overstock retooled into Straxus.
>>
>>10992426
I have an original Optimus (G2, to be fair) and Missing Link, but I'm still willing to throw $25 at the new deluxe if it looks good. I'd rather it were a new Optimus with G1 toy styling more than a literal spruced up G1 toy since ML already serves that purpose, but oh well.
>>
>>10992458
Retooling doesn't work that way

What mainline release did you miss out on that you couldn't get for MSRP? I know GE Optimus was tricky (though Hasbro is selling another run through Pulse), and SS86 Ultra Magnus.

Apparently the Metalhawk PR in LegUni is gonna have better plastic colors (they called it "more toy accurate" as opposed to "animation"), fucking sweet. ...it's too bad I bought the current one just last month, but ah well, it was on deep discount anyway lol.

Really looking forward to 86 Bee and Straxxus, and also Steeljaw if he doesn't sell out immediately like Rumble+Frenzy lol. Springer looks really nice, but I've just never liked the G1 design; would be really interested in a new IDW Springer though.

Since Straxxus is a Pulse exclusive, should I just preorder him now, or will he be available on BBTS/EE/etc too?

yeah it's sad because they'd be making much MORE money if they did business the way they used to. but evidently morons are in charge now, exclusively. so money is not being made.
>stock market
that is definitely a big part of the problem. it has never made sense. Normally you make an investment and you get interest. in a stock, the stock goes up as the company grows, but they pay you nothing until you cash out. if the company stops growing (which it should), your investment stops growing.. so you should just sell it and enjoy your profits, but then the company suffers. it's mad. and now china is openly manipulating it to destroy economies that cross them.
>>10992383

>heavily compromised commander ultra magnus
I don't mind his Cinemascope-shoulders all that much per se, but as an Ultra Magnusfag it's kind of annoying that they went all-in on pure-animation-no-white-Convoy-allowed for the commander class price point. It would've made a lot more sense to apportion that for a traditional armored Convoy mold done right, as opposed to the awkward Siege/Kingdom half-assed one. As-is the Siege/Kingdom version just feels uncommitted and without purpose.
>>
>>10992717
It's just aesthetic. I think the new one looks somewhat better since I think the rounder parts do a better job of complementing the head, but it's all surface stuff. Even the face sculpt is a lateral move.

hand colors are not the best to assume since we know they fuck that up all the time and even in the comics they went from different colors. In the two part smelting pool arc Blaster was off model and colors between both issues, startin with Blue or Yellow hands in issue 17 to then be Yellow and red in issue 18. He’s been selling as good as BB, Optimus and the like. Also you really want to give them that much credit as they be smart enough to stop themselves? They rolled out leader Grimlock 3 times with less than 14 months apart. (SG, G2 and comic)

Strongly disagree. I'm not gonna pretend it's a horrible figure but I don't like how it has vestigial garbage from siege (VERY common theme with ER remolds) and the alt mode is terrible and gappy and leaves him with an ugly buttplate. Somehow they made him fail at turning into a cohesive brick

Felt like a different flavor of WfC/FoC Soundwave, The fan mode "radio" is cool to me and looks Soundwave like enough. It doesn't all have to be mini masterpiece and G1 designs
Tho given 3P is doing it for only slightly more price there really is no excuse by Hasbro to not get shit right

I unironically love Siege Soundwave. I never cared much for the tape recorder mode, so if he's going to transform into a brick, I'll take the brick that kinda looks like a spaceship. Plus it makes him a good pal for Cosmos, and I really like the thruster kibble behind his head.

Missing Link stole that thunder. There's a huge difference in price of course, but it makes what would have been an exciting reveal a couple years ago just seem redundant at best and a little neutered by comparison at worst. Judging by the video it doesn't look bad though. I'm sure it will sell too.
>>
>>10992998
I don't like how lumpy it looks. It looks like a fanmode with some extra parts slapped on to make it kind of look like a tape deck (which is exactly what it is). Maybe a leader class paint job will make it look better, but I doubt it.

>>
>>10993049
His whole thing is being a microcassette player. Even ones that turn into vehicles still have a tape deck and buttons.
>>
>>10993049
that's a pretty poor excuse..
personally I don't think any soundwave altmode has ever been good. even in Prime where it was thematically on to make him one of those drone planes, they.. look dumb compared to other planes. The satellite movie toy was okay, but that wasn't very movie-accurate. and when they made him a way-smaller car, that was double dumb.
I have no attachment to an 80s microcassette player, but it seems to me if that's his altmode, you should go for full realism. After all, he's one of those guys like Prime that requires next to no cheating for the transformation, so why not?
>>
picked up x9 and tripredacus agent recently. don't love tripredacus agent but he looks really good. x9 is awesome all around but i will never understand why he's beige where he should be silver

i wish someone, anyone, would do a core/legends sized waspinator and quickstrike. also no more beast machines stuff listed, leaked or teased for the future on hasbro's end is sad. i don't want to wait til i'm 30 for botanica but i get that the toy industry is dying and g1 ad nauseam is the lifeboat
>>
>>10993049
Even with figures I tend to keep in robot mode, I find a better alt mode makes the transformation more fun and satisfying. I don't have a G1 Soundwave (Missing Link when?) but if I did I would probably keep it in player mode a good portion of the time. That's the whole fun of transformers for me, and why figures like the new Studio Series Megatron have no appeal to me whatsoever.

"ad nauseam" is kind of unfair given the sudden dearth of armada and cybertron updates and new weaponizers, but things like hasbro and takara both making "g1 toy prime but new," springer being a pretty mediocre upgrade for a whole new price point, and how they're raw dogging the shit out of ss86 to get every sunbow guy the most definitive toy possible in general in the shortest amount of time things feel like they're playing it safe as possible both on hardcore and casual buyer appeal lol

>>
>>10993137
it's pretty rough
a vehicle that turns into a limb has a tough time turning into a good robot (you can't just split the JOINTS up into pieces, that is a non-negotiable block of material. and that's not even getting into hands)
making the whole thing bigger makes it easier to make each bot more complex, but now they have to combine into a solid body, so that requires even more support / more limited articulation
combiners are awesome, but there's a reason they were a lot more popular in the old days, when nobody cared about shitty bricky robot modes and cheaty combiners that required a whole handful of separate pieces to be added on.

Personally, I really want them to do a new Superlink/Energon Unicron at Titan class. Look at his sickass Halloween colors, and the rotting/emaciated green energon details he's got going on, that's fucking rad as hell. He also shared that with Starscream in the show, making them both sorta zombie-lookin, but SS's toy didn't really reflect that the best.
Anyways this would make for a fucking awesome companion to the core SL Galvy they did, they oughta do more UT lads in Core class in general, given how every year had several huge Titans lol (Unicron twice, Tidal Wave's three colorschemes, the Planet Force-powered Starscream, Primus, etc etc...)

Beast Era guys should have more Core guys too, fwiw, but rather for "canon" scaling with the regular toys because I always found it funny how tiny they really were lmao.

SS86 Hotrod.

Spinisters good but I find him a bit fiddly and no Targetmasters.
>>
>>10993667
Spinister is great but I want a version that doesnt have the entire lower legs made of clear plastic. I'd probably consider Missing Link Prime to be a "perfect" figure, it has a very clear goal, be a highly articulated 1:1 remake of the original toy, and it accomplishes exactly that. Other than that its hard to think of perfect toys, even my favorites or the most highly praised figures have one or two things that slightly bother me or I wish was different. Maybe Siege Jetfire? Weird choice probably but he's just a really solid, huge, nicely poseable jetformer with a good amount of fun extras and the best blast effects they've ever done. Pretty much a perfect first Commander Class, and I'm not even super into jet/skyfire's toon design

Missing Link Convoy would have gotten that label from me if they had improved his neck. I feel like they easily could have retooled the head to give it an up/down tilt.

>>
>>10993742
Neck articulation is frustratingly limited in this toyline. 99% of figures just have balljointed heads, ALL they need to do is put a little cut in the back of the head and bam, 90 degrees of head movement. It's that fucking simple, and they never do it
>>
>>10993332
I dunno. It's always hard to tell from a trailer because they might be cutting together the absolute worst bits in a desperate attempt at modern kid appeal. It doesn't look amazing, no, but I'm interested to see Hollywood stumble their way through something without any fucking humans for a change. RotB was such a goddamn homo-sapien slog.
>>
>>10993758
I think about this all the time. I have like one or two bots that have the space at the back of their head to allow them to tilt their necks up all the way. And it doesn't even need to be all the way; just let me get a 45 degree upward tilt, at least.

I don't know if it's 100% perfect (the tab for the gun arm snapping does make that arm useless), but off the top of my head it's pretty damn close. It's huge, it's loaded with gimmicks that don't hinder regular play, the transformation is simple and fun which makes it enjoyable to quickly switch between modes (almost as fast as he does it on the show), it's 99% show accurate which is impressive for the Beast Era, and the articulation is almost as good as a modern figure.

Ended up getting him for 12 CAD, but he's consistently on sale for 9 CAD now. If you can get him for dirt-cheap there's literally no reason not to get him. I found that rather than being scared shitless from playing with a favourite figure I might accidentally wear out, I've been playing a LOT more with Spike from an initial indifference to him, to realizing that he's actually pretty pleasant and fun. Pretty much he sure is an exo-suit, but having one human in a sea of robots means that's a pretty badass human. You can also pretend it's a pretender if you don't like Spike, or are put off by him not having a face

They could have. It would have just "bumped" it up to voyager class, the same way including a trailer with the voyager bumped it up to leader class. The only way a deluxe sized optimus would come with a trailer would be if the figure itself were actually core-sized, but that's not the case.

That's always been the case. Hell, back in Classics the original plan for Optimus was he was going to be a smaller deluxe mold and then sold with a trailer at double the price as a voyager as well. They eventually decided against it and upscaled the design (and gave him the transforming smokestack gun), but not early enough that fans didn't get to see a leaked listing saying that was the plan.
>>
>>10993945
The original is better than the new one too, though. The new one is just weird. It's worse in ways that are hard to square. FansHobby's is MP-scaled, but the engineering is extremely simple. Hasbro made it more difficult for no gain.

I own that guy and I love him, but he probably could have benefitted from a BIT more complex engineering. His arms just hang awkwardly off the sides of the alt mode, as the feet do off the back, and the sides are just generally scrappy.

He also ends up just being way too damn big in alt mode because of how little plastic is actually shared between the bot framework and the truck. Hasbro's alt mode is a LOT better looking, which is a weird thing to say given how much they suck at that lately.

They're definitely closer to 2010 than the average 2023/2024 figure, but where else would they put them? I figured the whole point of the "Gamer Edition" WFC downgrades was to keep the seat warm for Reactivate. The entire line being nothing but two-packs (or worse, just these four figures) doesn't seem likely to me.

You might be right about the rest of the line being lesser compared to the two-packs, but I'd still like to see more of these designs.

Kind of glad I'm getting cutting down on getting transformsrs, looks like pricing is really goin to shit. Springer is essentially a big price hike for no reason, and 86 Bumblebee tells me they really aren't adhering to the core concepts of certain series now either. Not to mention the Missing Link ones being as expensive as they are for what they are. Suppose I'll stick to my Beast Wars guys.
>>
>>10994186
I'm not that attached to the cassette babies hanging around outside of the cassette player context since they tend to feel superfluous, but I think a good way to adapt them would be as alt-mode equipment. Have Laserbeak turn into a radar dish that sits on the truck or something. It's not the same, but I think that's a better alternative than the way the Fall of Cybertron voyager just has them turn into hockey pucks. In all my years with the WFC deluxe, I never felt like I was missing out and needed the voyager.

Hasbro's really squeezing the last bit of blood from their consumer stone, as it were. They're getting extremely bold with their pricing and the value just isn't there.

How much do you care seeing the old voice actors getting together for likely the last time? The 4 parter is being presented in it's 1984 Movie edit from Saturday September 14th 1985 so it's likely a half hour special with the VAs at the start/end. For the cartoon it's not really worth it imo because it's nothing special beyond being the start of the series.
>>

If it's anything like the other specials the stuff will leak later online and I'm not sure seeing the first 4 episodes 84 cartoon is really worth it. If the did a best of collection like say Golden Lagoon, Auto-Bop, Triple Take over, and, Divide and Conquer I would have gotten a ticket day one. But More than Meets the Eye 1-4 is very slow because it's setting up the series and has a lot of wrinkles for it too. I guess if they had to do a multi-part "movie Ultimate Doom w/Countdown to Extinction would have been a much better choice.

at this point if you really wanted to do an homage to the old days when someone's dead or too old, the right thing to do is a voice IN THE STYLE of that actor. something that evokes the same ideas, but isn't trying to be a perfect mimic. Kinda like when Funimation took over Dragon Ball dubbing (But NOT like when Pokemon switched dubbing companies, hoo lord)

that said, Troy Baker's Hamill-Joker is so dead on and such an incredible voice that I don't give two fucks if it's unoriginal. If anything, he needs to go broader with it. and don't be afraid to throw a little of that borscht-belt stuff in there.
>>
>>10994396
>But NOT like when Pokemon switched dubbing companies, hoo lord
Dear god I had to stop watching the dub when that happened, still need to get around to starting it over subbed. It was like all the characters had suddenly developed brain problems.

way too on-rails. Nothing will ever be as magical as the first 3-5 episodes. It felt like aaanything could happen.

>do is a voice IN THE STYLE of that actor.

An iconic example of this is Zapp Brannigan from Futurama where it was cast for Phil Hartman originally in March of 98 but after his tragic death a few months later the roll was placed on Billy West who stated he made the character a tribute to Phil in how he performed the character listening to recordings of the late Hartman to ready himself when playing Zapp.

Let's just brute force it listening to billions of lines of dialogue until it gets it right. and unfortunately we don't have a lot of that to feed it, for her, without the effect already on it.

They need to just give Gary Chalk a call already. He's got a great voice for Prime, and he's ten times the actor Cullen ever was.

>>10994400
>It was like all the characters had suddenly developed brain problems.
Probably a symptom of them sticking more closely to the direct Japanese translations once 4kids got the boot.

Speaking of dead actors and Pokemon, Meowth's already dead, and Jessie's VA has spine cancer. Pretty soon, James will be the only member of Team Rocket left.
>>
>>10994476
yeah chalk should get a lot more work. I heard him recently in that Monster Beach pilot, and was reminded how he's still got it but is tragically underutilized.
for that matter, david kaye's optimus voice was pretty great.
>translations
this is something i've noticed really fucked up anime dubs recently (though I think anime is also getting worse)
in the old days, they freely changed tons of shit, for cowardly purposes or because of disinterest or distaste, or for humor, whatever. And that was, on the whole, wrong. not what people are looking for when they buy a product. They wanna get that product, in a language they can understand
but they went WAY TOO FAR in the other direction. translations now are utterly dry, and they translate untranslateable things like honorifics instead of just trusting the audience to know what -chan means. Leading to incredibly awkward addresses like "Big sister (name)! it's you!"
instead of translating the meaning of phrases, it's basically word for word now. AND scrubbed of swears. so everyone sounds super stodgy and dull at all times. Yes, britney spears references tossed into Those Who Hunt Elves haven't aged the best, but it made me laugh a lot more than any recent show.

also yeah that's a tragedy, rachel lillis is not allowed to have cancer.
>>
>>10994476
Chalk is the worst, just total wooden delivery. Ruined He-Man.
>>
>>10994459

I expected Slipstream to be awful sonce it was using that garbage Windblade mold, but it's even worse than I expected. It looks like the only new parts are the head and guns, meaning those parts were always included in the mold and they had no intention of a retooled chest or plane mode parts.

There ARE actually a few more femseekers in some of the newer shows(that I can't be bothered to watch), so I'd imagine something like a dedicated female seeker mold would just be treated like futureproofing for when they wanna bring those characters into generations, and THEN they could move onto wackier things like OCs or r63 versions of the original seekers. And I wouldn't discount totally new seekers considering they made those unreleased G2 coneheads and a Redwing of all characters. Granted those *technically* existed before, but they're so obscure they might as well be all-new. OC seekers definitely have more appeal than the "Infernac Universe" guys(I still kinda like the rocks though)
I just think a new mold that they can sell a bajillion repaints if they want would have made more money AND more people happy than just slapping a new head on Windblade and calling it a day. Every new mold needs to be made with some considerations to repaint potential nowadays, and NOTHING is more repaintable than a seeker

I just opened my Cybertron Starscream after letting him sit in the box for 2 full months. He is absolutely mid as fuck. Massively overrated. His proportions are actually atrocious, screen accurate or not idc. >>
>>10994585
>t shoulder chunks falling off while transforming it.
Really? That sucks. I was looking forward to a Sunstorm repaint.
>>
>>10994611
I don't love the proportions but I get the appeal. I just don't find it satisfying as a Transformer. The flip out swords being retained are nice, but the alt mode isn't that good (never was) and the giant shoulder bits are a hassle. There are nice quality touches to the articulation but it just doesn't click for me. I feel similar about Armada Megatron, though I think that toy is worse. Even in the best case scenario (which I think Legacy Cyberscream is an example of) a lot of these updates lose more than they gain. I'm getting burned out on them.
>>
>>10994613
They just plug in. They're secure in a general sense, but when you're rotating them around to pose or transform it it's pretty easy to swivel them right out or bump them into a position you don't want. They're just on basic pegs so it would be easy enough to make them tighter, but tightness isn't really the issue. It's not a dealbreaker at all, but it is annoying and makes things less smooth.

>>10994611

one thing you can't tell from pictures is that this guy feels excellent. all the joints and transformation points have just the right level of resistance to be easy to move and feel sturdy and solid. also he can do a handstand, so work that into your calculus wherever it's appropriate.
>>
>>10994583
The only difference between the ones in Cyberverse are the heads, so you wouldn't have a "female seeker" mold. Of course that was a moot point because most the toys were just recolors of Starscream instead of how the others actually looked in the show. Meanwhile Earthspark is still running, so they aren't going to make their Nova Storm and Skywarp in Generations' current iteration.

Dude. The plastic feels cheap in-hand. The robot mode is compromised in multiple ways just to make sure the alt mode can accommodate the human riders (no ankles, no waist rotation, no wrists, his entire back is hollow and filled with panels, etc). The thing requires partsforming to transform, he has difficulty standing in anything other than a neutral pose because A) again, no ankles and B) his feet are chairs, so he's balancing on high-heeled stilettos all the time. Oh, and since he's designed around fitting the two shitty whoever-the-fucks as drivers (in both modes - they can ride in his hollow back cage in robot mode as well), he really doesn't scale with any other Transformers figures at all.
Don't go telling ME I don't know what a shit toy is when you clearly have no idea what it is you're defending - I regretted buying him the moment I transformed him the first time, and he's pretty much the first and only instance of buyer's remorse I've ever felt. Honestly, Howlback was literally the only part of the whole damn set that was worth owning, and that's because she's just Masterpiece Ravage.

Culture War thing was nothing outside of like a week of the same tired old man YouTubers who don't care about the franchise at all mad about 'PRONOUNS?>!!?!??!' I watched the show a bit but there was just a lot of stuff that didn't gel with me. I thought it was cool the characters they had. Like I never expected Tarantulas to show up for one. I just think the music really didn't match the mood of the show and it was really offputting. It was like ambient so a lot of times if someone was doing something cool and 'epic', it just felt like some sort of royalty free shit that didn't get my hyped up for whatever was happening. I thought the designs were a nice breath of fresh air compared to what others thought, but there was a lot that wasn't really done that well and it was hard to keep watching.

I felt like there was a lot of cool lore that just never really amounted to anything.

A lot of shows get cancelled after 2 or 3 seasons these days because that's generally when they stop being profitable, regardless of how bad they suck.
>>
>>10995176
incorrect
a lot of shows that are straight to streaming are greenlit for 2 seasons no matter what, so they're "cancelled" after 2 but the decision is usually made before season 2 starts
For an animated show, 3 seasons is a success, 4 is a triumph, and anything above that is phenominal

What are some “obsolete” figures that aren’t obsolete. Good answers only
>>
>>10995188
Most of them. Obsolescence is made up as the toy itself does not change over time and it doesn't suffer the same levels of damage something like an appliance would have from many years of constant use.

I don't mind the tail so much (but mostly because I prefer the beast mode of the original toy, so I just leave the Legacy one in bot mode all the time), but I would definitely dig if DNA design did an upgrade kit that made and extendible tail, bigger wings (the can also swivel up to go over his shoulders in bot mode), and a more show-accurate wolf head. Not sure all of those are feasible, but an anon can dream.

This. Most toys, especially those from the "classics" era, do something interesting or have some degree of appeal beyond just their accuracy and articulation, so they never really become "obsolete". Unless you're a tastelet, that is.

I'll follow up the praise for Cybertron and Classics-era toys, and throw an additional category in- non-combining figures of characters who normally combine. Maybe it's because I got majorly soured on combiners, but I've found myself liking the designs/characters of the individuals a lot more than the gestalt forms. In this pic, Swindle and Blades are both great redecos of really fun molds, and Onslaught is genuinely a fantastic figure. None of them feel worse for not being combiner components.
>>

I still don't understand why do people have to bring culture/politics wars into this. I just think the show was ugly as hell and didn't have any good toys, so it was bound to fail.
>>
>>10995252
>Scrolling through tfw threads about any TF with an even slightly complicated transformation
Or just "scrolling through tfw threads". I complain about this place sometimes, but at least it can be tolerated, more often than not, mostly because you can just call someone a faggot and move on. But TFW has all these rules that result in passive-aggressive posturing and dick-measuring that I absolutely cannot stand.

>>10995276
>I just think the show was ugly as hell and didn't have any good toys
This, basically. Some of the fight scenes I saw were cool, but the parts in between weren't good enough to keep me interested. A lot of the dialogue was just weird, too, like a whole generation of modern writers were raised on such quippy, Whedonesque trash that they think that's just how ALL dialogue should sound. I'm staunchly anti-AI, but honestly I can't imagine AI scripts being much worse than some of the crap we get.
>>
>>10995188
I still like Universe Cyclonus and Hound a lot. DOTM Megatron is leagues better than the SS version, also, I think.
>>
>>10995284
The absolute worst thing about TFW is if you post any opinions of any kind, someone WILL butt in and contradict you even if their argument makes little to no sense at all. Theres an large handful on there that just need to autistically converse about TFs all day and then some of them are also very angry and depressed. Its honestly gross and depressing and anger inducing if you spend too much time on there. Its also getting alot slower.
>>
>>10995284
I'm still bothered by how I just can't tell what any of the Earthspark OCs are meant to transform into. This has been a long-running problem with a lot of TF reinventions in general for me (first run of IDW and Prime for example) - I'm not asking for all of them to have a crane for a dick or something, but I just find it annoying when the robot mode is incredibly generic and magically transforms into something in the same colors as the robot. I'm not even joking when I say Rescue Bots was the single best example of how to pull it off, because all the designs had clear altmode parts in robot modes, so it puzzles me why a cartoon like Earthspark just completely dropped the ball whereas one meant for much smaller children pulled it off great.

The Generations WFC deluxes are an obvious choice given how limp the Gamer Editions have been. I'm still pretty fond of that Soundwave and Bumblebee in particular; pic related.

I also think the ROTF leader and Battle Blades voyager might still be the best movie Optimus toys. I have SS-05 and it's okay, but the backpack not securing is annoying, parts of the transformation are finicky, the arms like to undress themselves. I hear SS-32/44 are a touch better, but they looked too similar to tempt me at the time. It just makes me wish I had the old movie toys instead.

Another anime would be cool, but from what I recall, Prime killed any hopes of that (so much so that Go had to be distributed via TV-kun rather than aired). That happens here, too, albeit with much less frequency. But yeah, some people just feel the need to always throw their two cents in. Like they see someone happy and enjoying a toy that they don't, and they take it as some kind of personal attack.

Unrelated to Transformers, but one time I posted on r*ddit about how I enjoyed playing FFXV and getting the royal edition with all DLC for like 15 bucks on sale, and some fuming retard went on a diatribe about how I actually had an inferior experience and should feel bad just because I didn't pay full price for everything at launch. Going back and looking at it just further cemented this even more than I first believed. I'd remembered the bulkiness of the Battle Blades mold being worse than it is. The SS versions are a downgrade in all kinds of ways and I think even less of them now. Even ignoring the faux parts, why did they fuck with the transformation scheme so much? Why not have the legs form out of the front of the truck like they had before? Even the legends/Cyberverse movie Optimus toys did that because it was obvious.

It's not hard to find scale, actually. You just have to be okay with mixing and matching characters across toylines. I buy whatever I like, but when I make squads, I tend to do it based on alt mode scale. It's pretty fun, and it's led me to buying some pretty interesting bots.

Isn't that what Studio Series is? Granted starting with the Bumblebee movie and then SS86 it became fractured into sub-lines, and maybe that's what your issue is. I miss Studio Series being a predominately Bayverse line, even if they weren't all winners (>>10995352).
>>
>>10995434
I'm much happier with it this way. This way we get designs of toys we wouldn't get otherwise, and we have to see less Bayshit clogging the shelves.

It wouldn't bother me so much if SS86 didn't feel so similar to what Siege/ER/Kingdom were doing. The Gaymur Edition sub-line seemed like a refreshing change of pace and a good fit when it was announced but then the toys turned out to be shit. Legacy is a mixed bag with some solid stuff but it's far from cohesive. There's some stuff I'd still like from BBM but that's mostly been tapped.

At least we have a flood of TF1 stuff to look forward to, assuming the toys don't blow.

Scale is something that up until very recently the toys didn't want to commit to due to rigid price point and character restrictions. It took until a decade into the Masterpiece line for them to go "you know, maybe Optimus SHOULDN'T be twice the size of Starscream", and the movies toys didn't even attempt such a thing until Studio Series (again, a decade after the line started). That Generations took until Siege/Earthrise/Kingdom to get the main nostalgia line in on that action (again, 2018) emphasizes how recent this is.
For alt mode scale, well, shit out of luck, such as how earlier in these threads anon pointed out Bumblebee's beetle mode is actually a bigger car than Wheeljack's Lancia Stratos one but nobody ever thinks of it as such.

There isn't much to be done about alt mode scale unfortunately. That isn't to say they CANT scale, TheLazyEyebrow is a huge vehicle nut and actually does measurements and will put alt modes next to others of similar scale, but y'know
>>
>>10995598
i would actually find it a lot more interesting if the altmodes were relatively in scale on combiners.. that way the big vehicles can only combine with other big vehicles, smalls with other smalls, it puts a limitation on it and that's enjoyable. you'd have to struggle to find other things in the same rough size as a shuttle, or else the bigger parts could become more of the body, instead of rigidly sitting at 'four limbs one torso'

didn't we just have a Beast Wars movie? how well did that do.
>>
>>10995727
how the hell is that G1 circlejerking if its all new characters?

How different do you want things to be? maybe you should get out of Transformers and find a different property if you need THAT much of a difference.

Be careful when ordering from Amazon. Just got my Siege Springer and they just threw a label on him and that's it. No box, nothing.

no. we had another X-men '97 where "we set it in the 90s but don't worry we made sure to inject modern politics in every second" in-name-only piece of shit attempt at pulling in people my age
it's not gonna happen, you fucks. we didn't fall for 'totally radical' and we're not falling for this. our high standards are the reason you stopped trying to appeal to us in the first place.
>>
>>10995734
it's not all new characters. it's G1 plus a few new characters, whose focus is on how new and special they are.
i'm just tired of g1 being reimagined. make something new. then you can reimagine THAT over and over.
i swear executives only know 'harvest' they don't know 'plant'

because everything they "plant" nobody buys. They say "shit people keep buying Bumblebee and Optimus and Soundwave and not Nightshade or whatever his name is." so what do you think they're gonna go with.

that sounds like a bad idea to base a thread around, especially since i have no idea what you just said

why would i reward them for making something specifically aimed at pissing me off
>>

and so Hasbro will go back to G1, because that's what's bringing them the money.

I rewarded Hasbro for making something I like by pre-ordering the entire Kingdom beast line

every g1 rehash has one or two new characters that are the gimmick of the show. that doesn't count. a better example would be guys like Bulkhead and Knockout, those are original.
hell even the anime shows got redubbed so they're the g1 guys again. they can't let us have anything new.
>>
>>10995673
Of the deluxes Bumblebee and Grimlock are the best
Twitch, Nightshade, and Optimus are okay
Megatron could be a lot better

Bulkhead and Knockout existed in a world with Optimus, Megatron, Starscream and Bumblebee. They just put effort into making those incarnations distinct from previous ones.

there was more than two new guys
and your whole problem is that there are versions of Optimus and Megatron and etc running around even though EVERY incarnation has SOME version of those guys UT, Bayverse, Animated, Cyberverse.
The only exception is Beast Wars and you'd probably bitch that doesn't count because it's a continuation of G1.

You want a whole brand new franchise with no connection to its history so you can feel it belongs to you. Why are you even into Transformers?

Don't be obtuse, when this is also the same reality where G1 had also gotten several modern updates DURING the time of these modern shows/comics/etc getting their firsts. If you can't settle for toys of that time, why are we suddenly the unreasonable ones? Stop looking for excuses to create wars between imagined generational lines, you're the one distancing yourself from everyone else, not the other way around.
More to the point, you really think every non-G1 toy was a smash hit? Most Beast Wars figs strongly lacked in screen accuracy and sometimes critical posability, ntm the flaking chrome and GPS. Armada and much of Energon were just as brick-y as G1. Energon, Cybertron, and even Animated n Bay also had more than their share stinkers, despite also having others that still hold up today: for every TFA Prowl, we also got a TFA Ratchet who literally didn't have elbows. Rescue Bots never once had regular toys until today. Once we get to RiD15 and Cyberverse, sure maybe the rare Deluxe was okay, but so many of the toys were completely butchered thanks to obscene budget cuts - just a bunch of plastic waste I wouldn't even give to a toddler.
We're talking about main characters in all of these shows, here. Not some 87-92 nobody who probably never even appeared in Sunbow/Marvel or even Dreamwave or IDW who you only want to buy because of your "must complete muh teams" collection autism.
And don't even get me started on how shafted GoBots fans are.
>>
>>10995782
well i didn't watch earthspank. on account of it sucks.
were there any cool new characters you liked?

i'm okay with having 'a convoy' and 'a megatron/galvatron' but can't we largely leave it at that? recycle archetypes if you want, but make them new guys.
I just want it because we've seen they can do that. the transformers concept is not these few recognizable guys, it's much more than that. it can work for infinite new casts.

Good CGI doesn't age. The Bay TF movies look better than nearly all of Hollywood from the past 10 years. The original 1982 TRON has probably 5 minutes total of CGI, yet it still looks cool as shit because it leaned into the aesthetic.
Beast Wars had a big budget, but tried to do an organic and realistic aesthetic for a TV show when the animators were primarily tech geeks, not professional animators who understand the principles of animating movement.
I'm not dunking on BW, I actually have an insane amount of respect for what they achieved, and how even during all this, they made sure the characters were always very lively and full of personality, even if they were just in the background of a scene. They gave a lot of care and polish to it, even if the models and animation were sometimes jank from lack of experience. Pioneers gonna be pioneers, etc.
>>
>>10995848
Well you can't see the toy in the package so you need to have something to sell the toy on.
>>
>>10995849
BW definitely improved significantly on ReBoot in terms of bodily animations.

Do you mean the Takara repaints? That's not on Hasbro, or you

It's kind of funny since Mainframe approached Hasbro about doing a show since they probably saw G1 and the G2 toys and commercials on shelves and went "well shit, blocky robots are our JAM!" and then Hasbro said "sure, here's your new toyline it's about organic living creatures"

primarily it happens when a show is designed in 3d.
Cause there's no reason to make them technically transform from one to the other, so they just make 2 different models and create a transformation sequence that blends the two.
Beast Machines really started it.

My nephew is 6 and he loves Transformers. He came over my house and saw the original G1 show on my Plex server so he asked to watch it. We didn't make it through a single episode before he lost interest.

Retarded manchild toy collectors are already out of touch with their own generation, never mind younger ones. Unsurprisingly, "OLD THING GOOD" doesn't actually hold up in practice.

>Transformers was never meant for 6 year olds, it's for slightly older children

I watched G1 when it premiered in 1984 when I was six and was never bored.

It's because children today are constantly bombarded with media that anything that isn't a 5 second TikTok video puts them to sleep.

Also, you have to take into account that we hadn't seen anything like G1 Transformers at the time which made it fresh and exciting to watch.

So it's understandable that children today can't sit down and watch anything as they all have ADD!!!FACT!!!
