Truly dead. The ony thing that sustains this thread is drama.
I want to go to AnimeCon Birmingham in June. Last year was the first time it was held and it was pretty good. The friend I usually go to cons with cant go though and I don’t think I’d enjoy it if I went alone
I’m excited for koko next week!
>>10906179>just nabbed off another websitethis one?https://animecons.com/events/schedule.php?year=2024&loc=ukI'm going to liverpool comic con in may, most of the cast of red dwarf are going to be there and the hobbits! not that i go for the famous names but it's kinda fun to glimpse actors in real life. might bring some other anons, don't know if the other lads can make it though.
>>10906595Yeah. Years ago I would have just known, now not so much. I met Chris Barry from red dwarf at one of those comic cons.
>>10906179MCM London 2024 24-26 MayHYPER JAPAN Festival 2024 July 19-21The two I'm going to were missing. Considering AnimeCon Birmingham. I know, I'm a basic bitch. Two cosplays planned.
>>10906654have you been to a con in london before?i have not but i hear they are too busy to really do anything/talk to anyone. also hotels and prices in london are appalling. I had more fun at my last two cons which were really small and cost, i think, £20 and £7, than i have had at any other. First thing that happened when i went into the £7 one was someone gave me a nazi salute lmao had a really nice time there, met a wide range of people including one older guy who really knew his stuff anime-wise.
>>10906714Honestly i personally find big cons a little more relaxing in a strange way, just go with a couple of friends, enjoy a day wondering around looking at overpriced crap and just be another body in a huge mass of other humans. The smaller cons i find kinda bad for my anxiety as theres a lot of social pressure, most people already know each other, and i find cliques are constantly splitting and reforming, and i don't keep up enough with the social dynamics to know what drama is going on currently. But theres a lot of people on the opposite end of the spectrum who hate being just a rando in a crowd and love being one of those 300 or so people everyone there knows.
>>10906592same
>>10906776Being in a big crowd and realising no-one cares about you specifically can be kinda freeing if you have social anxiety.
Anyone going to the Manchester con in 2 weeks?Wouldn't mind having some people to say hi to
>>10906974I was going to but my face is still too busted
>>10906591I'd probably like to go, don't have anyone to go with. Are you a nice anon?
I hate how my closest cons are in London. I hate London so much and I always have the autism around a lot of people. I can't even drag anyone I know to one. Are all London cons that crowded?
>>10907304kupocon wasn't too busy at least compared to the really big ones but stilled filled out a hotel conference hall in terms of numbers.
>>10907005What happened anon.
>>10907389Got myself a glow up. Not gonna parade in a con with a black eye and swollen lower face doe.
>>10907304MegaCon and EGX aren't nearly as busy as MCM
fuck togs, stomp on togs, stir fry togs, etc
>>10907642 What did togs do to you? Spill!
>all hotels for MCM london on my charge 720-800 for 3 days>travelodge does flexible for 480 for 3 daysGuess we're using a poorfag hotel this year.
>>10907903October event I mean
kokoro good
>>10907965Is everyone in the UK that fat?
>>10907968Average woman is 71kg apparently. So likely.
>>10907965huh, i always put off going to cons because i thought everyone else there looked like instagram cosplayers or the ones they put in their press material.
Had a bloomin amazing time at kokoro this weekend!
>>10907965holy shittttafter all the crap we get about being amerifats look at this shit!!!!
>>10908064UK con attendees do seem to run fatter and more disabled than average. Dunno why though.
>>10908085Anon, you can't convince me anyone in that room could break out into a light jog, let alone run.
>>10907903So poorfag hotel and also poorfag pub by the said poorfag hotel after leaving the MCM merchant halls?
>>10908216Na fuck that place.
>>10906176For excel veterans here. Is premier inn or hampton hilton better? They cost the same but hilton has free brekkie
Recently found out about animecon Brum. What the fuck is this. Why do my eyes hurt. Holy shit. It's so bright.
>>10909110The website layout or the cosplayers?
>>10909124Their website is so glaring I never even realised the cosplayers.
>>10909110Are they sponsored by maccies?
>>10909110Comiccon wannabe. Last two events have been pretty empty. Rather go to MegaCon
>>10909291they get better guests than Megacon
>>10909291Why would you want to be like Comic con? Honestly comicon has been pretty shit
come to sunnycon
What did you think of Manchester Anime con just gone?first con in many years for me. made a friendgroup and spent the day+evening with them. Quite a fun time, though I felt some of the panels weren't to my taste
>>10909571too many kids, which is worrying
>>10909572Thats literally the main demographic for anime, anon. Were just old and decrepit unfortunately.
I heard Kokoro con had some drama any news?
>>10909774Committee had a falling out. Kita has severed all ties to Kokoro. I don't know the details.
>>10909838Got any source on that?
>>10909838lol, kita can get fucked
>>10909838Sounds pretty childish on both sides. >>10909849Why do you want Kitacon to get fucked ?
Secretcon? More like SECRET NO CON.What con clashed with it?
>>10910067Insomnia
Thinking of going to animangapop
>>10909838Calling bullshit. People have been trying to create drama between Kita and Kokoro for years
>>10910191and it's always members of kitacon and kokoro
which con do people recommend more, Kitacon or Kokorocon?
>>10909930Well this might be the last Koko. Kitacon is every 2 year Amecon has dropped like a pancake And toko is every year.
I'm going to Manchester megacon with a friend. Is good? Any anons going?
>>10912113I'm going. It's fun. Good (cheap) food options and accommodation around too.
>>10910703Koko, Kita, and Toko should all pack up shop in times like these, it's over for them.
>>10912113I will since im local. Assuming theres no heatwave (less than 26c that day)
>>10912286yeah, fuck fun conventions, we’re sick of that shit! we want a big over priced dealer hall that lacks any entertainment! give up trying to run something fun! arseholes
>>10912354Shall do. I’ll take up grilling or mowing my lawn instead.
>>10912354Those ghost town cons werent good either. Go to the NL or US for proper social/party cons
Liverpool comic con tomorrow, starting to get that convention feeling. Anyone else going?I don't go for the famous faces but man, look at their fucking line-up.full cast of red dwarf, the hobbits, fucking darth vader. holy shit we're the big league now.
>>10912733Aww man, I can’t afford autographs and meet and greets, but there’s plenty of people I’d want to see.Cool to see the childlike empress from never ending story, or a bunch of people from lost boys as well as the hobbits. At least you don’t have that glass panel between you like after covid.
>>10912733Yeah I'm going to be there both days. Not staying the night since I'm living nearby as it is.Primarily going to meet other nerds/weebs/etc and make some buds. Friendgroup kinda collapsed after lockdown and shithad good results in AL manchester last month but like the tard I am I forgot to ask for contact details
>>10912753>Primarily going to meet other nerds/weebs/etc and make some buds.me too>had good results in AL manchester last month but like the tard I am I forgot to ask for contact detailsrelatable. Will you be cosplaying as anything? I'm doing "Boys" Last Tour, atleast one of the days. Say hi if you see me, we can hang out, although it can be difficult if it's busy.
>>10912757Afraid not, I haven't been able to get it together in time so I've pushed it to the anime con in birmingham come June.Pretty sure my saturday ticket gets me in the afternoon so I'll say hi if I see you!
>>10912758what were you planning on cosplaying?
>>10912760Coincidentally I was planning on a genderbent cosplay myself. I rewatched PSG in anticipation of the new TRIGGER season - had a lightbulb moment as to how I'd do a bent Stocking75% of it is in my room waiting but some of the big items that need modification haven't turned up yet.
>>10912762psg = panty and stocking with garterbelt?
>>10912769you got it anon
>>10912780ah it was never my kind of anime, it looks too much like power puff girls. I'm all about that beautiful artwork.
>>10912757is one of your friends cosplaying yuu?
>>10912964no, unfortunately my friend who did this cosplay with me in the past has moved away recently. so I was a lone-soldier this time. If i had to choose, i always thought of myself as cosplaying yuu because i am tall and european. not short and japanese/asian like chi. Also my helmet is more similar to yuu's (see photo, I only have this one blurry photo showing my full cosplay, I'm there to enjoy the con rather than take photos so i don't bother taking any usually, but then regret it)I'd love to get an arisaka rifle for this cosplay. (dis-armed of course) although people have difficulty getting such things through security even though they are allowed by their rules.>>10912753this anon didn't come and say hello :( i can only assume you were too intimidated by my alpha-chad aura, have no fear, i am a benevolent commander.
>>10913128FUCKI saw you at the end of the day and it didn't click ;_; I should have kept a picture to hand to remind myself of what to look out forI'm sorry anon!
>>10913137keklook out for me next time, i am going to keep doing this cosplay untill i get to speak to someone who recognises it properly. a few guys have recognised it at past conventions but for whatever reason i couldn't speak to them properly at the time. It's kinda weird seeing thier clothes irl (chi& yuu's) becuase ... it's literally just milsurp. just a normal oldschool soldier. i think only really the symbol and pack are identifiably different, and even they look like a medic's cross and an old british army pack from WW1 (my friend who works in army surplus even mistook it for one!)When and where did you see me? sat or sun?
>>10913146Ah, my bad on the late reply anonI saw you towards the end of Sunday as things started to quiet down in the vendor hall - I saw the cross on your helmet/uniform and for some reason my brain decided it was a fallout thing instead of the actual honest-to-god symbol that GLT uses...As an aside, did you think the vendor hall was a bit meh for such a big con? Artists alley was TINY compared to AL manchester last monthI'll be at Animecon in Birmingham this june and some other ones too. If you're going to those I promise I'll look out properly!
>>10913653vendor hall was pretty good imho, about average, some good things caught my eye though and i ended up spending a lot, so maybe it was above average.feel like it was better pre-covid, as all things were, but it was above 5/10 this year.>Artists alley was TINY compared to AL manchester last monthmay well have been, it was in the other building, yeah? I tend not to spend much time there, fewer things which interest me there.in my experience anime-specific conventions have a big artists alley in general.
Enough circlejerkingMCM London and Animecon Brum are up next
>>10915672pretty hyped for mcm, going as the one piece admirals with a couple of friends, what should i expect from the after party except from body odor?
>>10915812Is this the afterparty? https://www.mcmcomiccon.com/london/en-us/things-to-do/after-hours.html How do I buy tickets? Where do you find all the afterpartys
>>10915926Theres also an after party at the Fox, a pub next to the excel center. No clue what to expect from it though. https://www.designmynight.com/london/whats-on/party/three-epic-nights-unofficial-afterparty
>>10915926MCM After Hours is the official evening entertainment, wraps around 8pm.When they first introduced it, there was a shit ton of confusion about where it actually was. Appears there's still some crap about getting a wristband?>>10916316>£5 to enter a pub>Last entry 9pmI'm always amazed this is as popular as it isWe usually go to one of the nearby hotel bars. The O2 is across the river and now has a Spoons, so that option is getting more popular. Sadly, there are few reasonably priced options in the area.Who's ready for the twice-a-year bitching about how busy MCM is, along with the claims that it's "oversold"
Been going to MCM London since 2005, never bothered with the after parties, usually too autistic to stand loud music and small talk, and tend to end up hanging out in the hotels with people I already know. What actually happens at them?
>>10917327the super secret orgies of course
>>10917080>£5 to enter a pub............... how much is a pint there?
>>10917709Nah, The orgies happen in the middle of the afternoon where people think they can fuck off to the hotel while it's quiet there and not need to do the walk of shame the morning after.
>>10917737If I had to guess it is probably £8 to £9.
>>10917709old secret if you ugly
See you tomorrow lads
Fence Expo 2024
>>10918229holy shit is it really that dead on a saturday at this hour.
>>10918232Yes. Might have some there about now though.
So how it was? It looked like emptier. Plus wtf with all the fences.
>>10909570Ok
>>10918568it was fun, seemed less busier inside and out
>>10918568>>10918568Definitely less busy than usual, or maybe I got lucky and missed the crowds. Was around all three days but did chill in my hotel for an hour midway through each day. Overall I had a good time.Heard some chicks got spiked at the Fox on Friday night though. Anyone know if that actually happened or if it was just a rumor? I heard it from four separate people telling my friends and I to avoid it.
>>10918568It was less busy than usual but that's nothing but a good thing. Idk about the fences but at least its not like last year where if you left the outside bit you had to walk all the way around to the entrance hall to re enter. Honestly i had a blast this weekend, looking forward to october.
>>10919406Getting your drink spiked is just a typical night out for any Briton of any gender, so it probably happened
Everyone got they're tickets for AnimeCon?Eventim was being dodgy with distributing tickets btw
>>10920195Got em!Chrome didn't work, had to swap to firefox, odd considering usually it's the other way around.
>>10920195Con, afterparty, trains bookedhotel booked (on the other side of the a45 lmao but saved £50)finalizing my Stocking wig this weekend. Hoping I don't fuck it up but despite making massive changes to it, I'm surprised it's looking so well. After that it's final preparation
heard some drama about vendors at anime con, some about them being angry, anyone know why ?
>>10920838Most likely over the London one being deadMuch like the previous MCM FENCECON
I gave them a piece of my mind
>>10920981I saw a youtube video and it did not seem that empty. They did it on the Ikea in North London right?
>>10920838Some vendors complained after the last one in London that it wasn't worth them coming - broke even or made a loss>>10921064It was fine. Yeah, old Ikea, now called Drumsheds. It was a decent medium-sized UK con. Attendance and the con overall were both decent.Would attend again next year, nice to have some competition in a space dominated by MCM
Are those anime and gaming cons any good? I've never gone to a convention before but was thinking maybe it's a good way to meet some people and make some friends. They look fairly small and cheap though.
>>10921227If you want to meet people then the smaller cons are the better choice.I can only talk for Manchester that I went to earlier, but I was broadly happy with the stalls (especially artists alley) - compared to L'pool comicon which had a lot more "general" merch and a very small art section.
>>10920838Animecon looking like it has more "creators" than attendees.
>>10920838Rumours are something about a large partner pulling out. I guess that's why they don't have CrunchyRoll this year.
>>10921241What do you mean by "creators"? The ones that show up have a cosplay page with 300 followers and they get free tickets for every con when the only thing that they post is 1 picture or two?Ive seen some atrocities made in MCM this year with the creator program and I question if its something that is even worth it for them.I would honestly agree that I dont think someone coming to do a 2 or 3 tiktoks in your event for their small community is not going to make much a difference in your marketing. Maybe they are going with the strategy of quantity over quality and even if its a lot of creators they might still buy somethign on the shops >>10921268Lol But Crunchyroll pretty much promotes everything its weird for me that they have pulled off. In the end we are going to see that the only con Thriving is going to be animeleague because they kept things small.
>>10920838Heard it was something to do that new Vtuber convention or something. But lamo Vtubers, fucking hate vtuber
>>10921241I've seen more "creator" attendees than non-creator attendees posting about the con in my Instagram feed. The website (no longer painful to look at) says their 2-day passes are now sold out. If it's busy though, I'll be amazed.>>10921271MCM goes between being too strict and too relaxed with who they give creator passes to. There's no consistency. A number of people who got one for last month's con didn't deserve it. I expect they'll tighten up for October and find a bunch of "creators" get salty on their Instagram story before paying to attend all 3 days anyway.>>10921275I saw a post about this event. How the fuck does a VTuber convention work?
>>10921293I have no idea what the metric for crearor even means if they said it's not based on follower counts. Is it just how much you're willing to shill the event?
The Vtuber con is just basically a con but exclusively for vtubers, kind of like secretcon. Only Vtuber related stuff is going to be there. I barely know 99 % of the guests but ive heard Bao the whale will be there. From there I have not really seen the rest of the guests.Maybe is going to be so niche that might actually work even.
>>10920838Heard that Alejandra Saab was bitching about animecon what did they do?
>>10921364Publicly MCM says it's based on follower counts & if you actually post MCM content after they give you a pass. but then multiple people with 100k+ have been denied while people with sub 500 followers get approved. Seems to be in reality, random number selection but pushed so that the cosplayers and cosplay photographers don't shit up the press and industry applications like they used to
>>10922481Photographers don't get creator passes as easily as the cosplayers do
anyone at Birmingham right now? I have friends going that one. the ringleader of the cosplay group socially outcasted me so if you killed them it world be nice
>>10922589AnimeConUK? it's decent
>>10922500Almost every photographer attending mcm I've seen on Facebook has either a press or creator pass, or they don't enter the barriers and charge for off site shoots
>>10922481I once heard is first come first serve but I dont think this is the case anymore>>10922500Im going to be controversial on this but I think both of them do not deserve such unless they also have a different type of approach of showing the event but by presence and posting pictures, I think cosplayers should go more in the room of guests instead of creators as they are part of the show not contributing with content to it. What I think it would be different if that cosplayer or photographer would report also in the event their experience like a small blog or something like that, then it will be reasonable to give them such ticket, they are pricey so they need to earn their spot.>>10922722And here is my whole reason why I should not give photographers a Creator pass but press can do if they are covering for anykind of media. If they come to the event dont pay anything and dare to charge people for pictures they should pay for it like any other stand or artist would do, period. As a final note I would say, I do understand the whole why you want a bunch of cosplayers, photographers and overall creators coming to your event because marketing is expensive, youu clearly want to show the event to many people as possible to convince more people to come and specially if you have photos of it all over socials after your event is done. But I think this has came a lil too far with how the filter is done. Yes I do agree that having a reasonable size on your social and output is a must have, you dont want someone with around 200 followers on instagram and 3 likes in their pictures be given such an opportunity to represent in some way or form your event. But also there is so many FOMO in the industry, you never know who is going to be the new biggest creator or something, many people make a lot of effort this includes cosplayers and photographers to get noticed nowadays on their work. But they should be more consistant to who and why they give passes to ppl
>>10922737And well ok I will add one more thing to my Controversial opinion (4chan limit) The whole reason why they are CREATORS (And I mean everyone) is because if they were guests they would obviously mean they will have to market for them and give them something according to the status (like a stall or even some money or accomodation) when you get them as creators it means you dont need to give them anything but the ticket, so I think this could be a way around on WHY they are doing this, they call them creators because they want a bunch of cosplayers in the event so other people can come but in reality and ive seen a lot of times this happening, I see few people ever approaching the stands of the cosplayers when they are guests.I guess I should become a creator myself and do a rant on Tiktok about this at some point.
How would you rate Animecon everyone? For me I'd say 8/10. Stalls were all quite good and there was a lot of stuff that actually interested me. Cosplays were super varied and went well beyond the "top 3 anime and games" list I saw in Liverpool last month. Actually, I thought I was going to be a literal who cosplaying Stocking but got recognised a bunch of times and ran into a bunch of other people cosplaying them tooAfterparty on saturday was a mixed bag. the sekrit miku show was a fun treat but the afterparty felt more like a concert than a social event. Others seemed to enjoy thoActually went to some of the panels about cosplay and wig styling on Sunday and was happy with the info. I gave the con-sanctioned social events a try and had to walk out tho. Everyone there was like, a decade older than me and everyone had pretty bad social anxiety.Made some more friends (and last minute even met a youtuber that I had no idea was there) so I think I'll be going again!
>>10922778Oh was the fat guy who is super loud?
>>10922778It was like a better HyperJapan
I'm hearing that the artists weren't happy with the layout of the alley and some reported really bad footfall. I wonder why they left half of the hall empty instead of making the alleys longer?>>10922880Nah, they're an artist/video essayist that was sharing a booth with someone else. I'd walked past their stall what must have been ten times thinking "huh the art looks kinda similar to theirs" but didn't actually go up to ask until near the end of Sunday. Imagine my shock when before I even open my mouth i see a business card with their name on it!>>10922889I just had a look at that and I'd say Hyperjapan had better food kek.
>>10922904HyperJapan definitely has better food but it's a culture festival so they get a one-up on it automatically (and desu I'd rather just go to Subway or spoons right outside). I agree that the layout was a bit weird but it didn't appear to have any dead-corners that an artist would've been shafted into. One vendor I spoke to said they were doing above expectations for sales so that's a positive. I think they should have better directions for where the stages are next time because it was confusing which stage was which (and not typically up against walls where you'd expect them), both stages had the back facing the middle of the hall.
Anyone else coming to Birmingham Anime & Gaming Con 2024 on 17,18 August? I'm new to cons, only been to two before. I feel like I can not fully enjoy what conventions have to offer if I have no company. But I do not know anyone that wants to come with me.
>>10922916I agree on the stages layout, massively confusing. I also think they need better projectors for the creator stage since they were so dim.>>10922917I was planning to go however, I might be working overseas during that time ;-;
