Or if he was a girl before Gensokyo, then he's (I stoped caring about pronouns at this point) just a tomboy and the crown prince title is just something he feels comfortable with or is something passed down. Based off from reading the wiki, I think it's the latter since it wouldn't make sense that a preserved body would for some reason change its sex since its preserved and all, but this is Gensokyo (and ZUN) we're talking about so who knows.
