No not "septic" it's SEPTA.
>>
>>1979068
MFL is shit
BSL is fine
>>
I know a bunch of people who make fantasy maps for SEPTA's RR and metro, while the actual organization like no master plan for expansions or even just getting back the rputes they cut in the 80s whatsoever lol
>>
When I'm national dictator of American I will allocate 20 billion yearly to public transit
but it all goes to SEPTA
because it would be funny

>chronically underfunded its entire existence
>among the lowest funded per capita transit authority in the country
>illegal in PA for municipalities to raise a tax to fund public transit
>forced to allocate the funds it gets from Harrisburg almost entirely to operations
>$5 billion maintenance backlog
>operators make ~20% less than regional peers
>only ~200 transit police to cover entire system across the region

>"WTF WHY IS SEPTA SO DIRTY AND UNSAFE, CUT THEIR FUNDING IMMEDIATELY"

I still wish their regional rail did late night service. I Want to be able to stay at the bars till closing, not call it a night at 11

I wish the subways did too, taking a $$$ lyft / uber home because its 1am is annoying.

most of that shit is in north philly, tragic that black people can't stop shooting each other for 5 seconds.
>>
>>1981756
Can you extend a rapid transit line up Roosevelt Boulevard then up the Northeast Corridor up to Boston? I'm sure "rapid transit" can also include trains that move at 200 mph in addition to trains that run every 3 minutes.
>>
Has SEPTA built literally anything new in the past 50 years?
>>
i will never forgive them for building an s-bahn and then refusing to operate it like one
>>
Is Philly the first suburb city?
>>
>>1984226
They opened the Wawa station in August 2022 but that’s it really
>>
As someone who left to work in Center City at 4 AM, it was mostly reliable and easy to use.

Like the rest of Philadelphia, the only bad part about SEPTA was the other people who used it.

People hate on the system when they really just hate the people
>>
>>1979067
>>
yesterday I got on the BSL southbound and there was a person who DEFINITELY shit themselves the entire car smelled like human shit, plus 3 people smoking weed at the same time. We need armed transit cops on every car so bad telling people to cut it out.
>>
>>1981774
SEPTA suffers from such insane levels of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality, its workers have to beg riders to file complaints just to convince leafership a known problem needs to be fixed.
Totally functional transit authority we got here.
>>
I haven't lived in Philly for over a decade, what's their payment system like now? Are they still doing transfers and tokens and shit or have they moved on to NFC payments or something like that, what's the deal
>>
>>1986239
You used to have to use a septa card, you had to load these at a kiosk or online and those were the only way to pay (or cash at a booth / on the train for regional rail).

Last year in September they finally rolled out tap to pay for bus / trolly / subway. I don't think regional rail accepts tap to pay yet but it's coming.
>>
>>1986239
It's goofy.
You can buy single trip ticket cards at kiosks, otherwise you're stuck on their unholy marriage of an oyster card and a prepaid credit card. For Regional Rail, you can board and buy a card from the "conductor" (that they haven't gotten rid of yet, shockingly). They have to have that, because the turnstiles in Center City need a swipe and stations out in fuck-all don't have kiosks to buy tickets most of the time.
Buses still take cash, if the machine is actually working on the bus you're on.
>>
Is it really more dysfunctional/ghetto than the MTA?
>>
>>1987420
At least in NYC, I was able to buy an MTA card and load it/swipe it without issue. When I visited Philly, the card machine at the airport didn't work and the ticket to get to city center was stupid expensive. I wasn't able to get a card out of the center center machine on the way back either, so I had to buy a ticket with cash on the train again. I thought my own system (MARTA) was bad, but jesus christ.
>>
>>1987424
Lmao. I’m from Atlanta too. But live in NYC now. Probably rode Marta under 5 times growing up, and never a bus
>>
>>1987431
I've got a soft spot for MARTA. The headways suck, especially on weekends, but on weekdays it's generally been reliable for me and it's mostly normal people on the train. Family took it to Braves games at the end of the Fulton County stadium era and through Turner Field's lifetime. Then I took it when I commuted downtown for college. Always annoyed me that Gwinnett and Cobb fought so hard against it and that the GA legislature is deadset against giving it any of GDOT's road money. It's a good foundation for a wider system, but the disfunctional petty fiefdoms that make up the local regional government structure and lack of state support hamstring it.
>>
>>1979067
So much potential
>>
>>1979067
>septa key
>try and be a debit card

ngl septa would find a way to waste 90% of the money and use 10% for something thats completely unneeded and unused
>>
>>1980305
Septa? More like septic.

on account of all the poos and shitskins filling it

buy a car like i did and be free
you have nothing to lose but your chains

Regional Rail is comfy if you are going to/from specific points in the suburbs to center city, otherwise it's kinda useless
Both subway lines are disgusting, I would rather walk
Buses aren't bad, not great either

what if they made a second through-running regional rail system interlined with the current one for cross-suburban transit

>Exton to west chester

Kind of dumb, and your Somerton line goes to the ass-end of nowhere.
Everybody transferring either Norristown or Lansdale isn't great, but it makes sense given regional geography and existing connections.
Why not take Pottstown all the way to Reading? It's not much further.

>>

>>when the tracks to the NEC still exist
It's based around the Trenton Cut-off ROW, which has been the subject of a proposed Cross-County line in the past. I just expanded off that. Sending the cross-suburban line through 30th Street just kinda defeats the purpose, so the new ROW on the 202 was drawn.
>Kind of dumb, and your Somerton line goes to the ass-end of nowhere.
Neshaminy Falls and Langhorne which were the end of 15 minute frequent service in the original through-running SEPTA RR plan.
>Why not take Pottstown all the way to Reading?
Only included counties where SEPTA service exists currently.

>>

just in case
>>
>>1997422
There were some old rich retirees along it, plus the Delaware Valley rail passengers whatever association fighting to keep it.
For the record, I think it should still run, but it's hobbled by infrequent service and doesn't go far enough since the area north of Cynwyd is a trail. Its days are numbered to whenever that bridge over Zoo shits the bed.
