A 24-year-old Wisconsin elementary school teacher was arrested Wednesday for allegedly “making out” with her fifth-grade student — less than three months before her wedding.
Madison Bergmann’s alleged abuse of the 11-year-old boy came to light when the student’s mother overheard her son talk to the teacher on the phone, CBS News Minnesota reported.
The victim’s parents found alleged texts between the pair and the boy’s father then stormed into River Crest Elementary School with print-outs of the conversations.

Britney Spears ‘home and safe’ after paramedics responded to an incident at the Chateau Marmont, source says

Britney Spears is “home and safe” after a “major fight” with her boyfriend on Wednesday night at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, a source close to the singer told CNN.

Paramedics were called to the hotel, but Spears left with her security team, according to the source.

Spears’ representatives did not respond to CNN’s request for comment.

CNN has reached out to the Chateau Marmont and first responders for additional information.

Later on Thursday, Spears posted a text slide to her verified Instagram, in which she wrote that the “news is fake!”

Let me start with a disclaimer: The subject of today’s newsletter will make some readers uncomfortable. It makes me a little uncomfortable.
The Times has just published an article about Americans who believe they suffered serious side effects from a Covid vaccine. More than 13,000 of them have filed vaccine-injury claims with the federal government.
My colleague Apoorva Mandavilli tells some of their stories in the article, including those of several people who work in medicine and science:
Ilka Warshawsky, a 58-year-old pathologist, said she lost all hearing in her right ear shortly after receiving a Covid booster shot.
Dr. Gregory Poland, 68 — no less than the editor in chief of Vaccine, a scientific journal — said that a loud whooshing sound in his ears had accompanied every moment since his first Covid shot.
Shaun Barcavage, 54, a nurse practitioner in New York City, has experienced a ringing sound in his ears, a racing heart and pain in his eyes, mouth and genitals for more than three years. “I can’t get the government to help me,” Barcavage said. “I am told I’m not real.”

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, a powerful South Texas Democrat, was indicted with his wife Imelda on Friday on charges of accepting almost $600,000 in bribes from Azerbaijan and a Mexican bank.

Cuellar allegedly accepted the payments from Azerbaijan’s state-run oil and gas company after they had been laundered through fake consulting contracts to shell companies owned by Imelda Cuellar, according to the indictment. In exchange, the Laredo congressman allegedly pushed U.S. policy in favor of Azerbaijan, an oil-rich former Soviet country that borders Iran and Russia on the Caspian sea. That includes adding language to defense spending legislation to prioritize ties to countries in the region, including with Azerbaijan, and working to kill legislation prioritized by members who supported Armenian interests.

Fresh chaos, arrests on US college campuses as police flatten camp at UCLA

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Police forcibly removed scores of defiant pro-Palestinian protesters at several colleges on Thursday, including taking down an encampment at UCLA in a jarring scene that underscored the heightened chaos that has erupted at universities this week.

In the pre-dawn hours, helmeted police swarmed a tent city set up at the University of California in Los Angeles, using flash bangs and riot gear to push through lines of protesters who linked arms in a futile attempt to halt their advance.

Los Angeles police said on social media that 210 people were arrested at UCLA, and hundreds of arrests were made at other universities overnight and on Thursday.

"I'm a student here," one UCLA protester told cameras as he was led away, his hands bound. "Please don't fail us. Don't fail us."

The move, announced on Friday, allows participants in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) to enroll in the Affordable Care Act's health insurance.

DACA recipients can apply for coverage starting in November and may qualify for financial assistance to help them purchase quality health insurance, the White House said in a statement.

President Barack Obama and then-Vice President Biden created the DACA policy in 2012, allowing certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the country as children to receive protection from deportation and authorization to work legally.
The White House statement said that Biden continues to call on Congress to provide a pathway to citizenship to "Dreamers," a term used to refer to these types of undocumented immigrants.

"Today's rule also reinforces the President's enduring commitment to DACA recipients and Dreamers, who contribute daily to the strength and vitality of our communities and our country," the statement said.

The move does not go as far as Biden's initial plan to allow DACA recipients to apply for Medicaid. The decision was made after the administration received 20,000 comments on the proposal, senior officials said, per The Associated Press.
However, Biden's action does allow DACA recipients to buy insurance through the Affordable Care Act, which establishes marketplaces for purchasing private insurance.

Elon Musk says Twitter, will reinstate the suspended account of Nick Fuentes, a white supremacist and Holocaust-denying broadcaster.

Why it matters: Musk's announcement comes as the nation experiences a surge in antisemitism incidents and months after his social media company lost a slew of advertisers following his decision to back an antisemitic post.

The decision also came hours after Holocaust survivors launched a new campaign targeting antisemitism and disinformation online.
Fuentes' Twitter account was still suspended as of Friday morning.

Driving the news: Musk said Thursday that he would lift the ban on Fuentes after a Fuentes supporter demanded that the white nationalist be allowed to return to Twitter.

"Very well, he will be reinstated, provided he does not violate the law, and let him be crushed by the comments and Community Notes," Musk posted on Twitter.
"It is better to have anti whatever out in the open to be rebutted than grow simmering in the darkness."
Musk then posted that he couldn't be a defender of free speech and "permanently ban someone who hasn't violated the law."
"This will probably cause us to lose a lot of advertisers and makes me sad, but a principle is a principle."

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a bill banning lab-grown meat in his state Wednesday, in what he described as an effort to “save our beef.”

“Today, Florida is fighting back against the global elite’s plan to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs to achieve their authoritarian goals,” DeSantis said in a press release Wednesday. “Our administration will continue to focus on investing in our local farmers and ranchers, and we will save our beef.”

The bill, S.B. 1084, makes it “unlawful” for people to “manufacture for sale, sell, hold or offer for sale, or distribute” lab-grown meat in Florida.

“Florida is taking a tremendous step in the right direction by signing first-in-the-nation legislation banning lab-grown meat,” Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson (R) said in the press release.

“We must protect our incredible farmers and the integrity of American agriculture. Lab-grown meat is a disgraceful attempt to undermine our proud traditions and prosperity, and is in direct opposition to authentic agriculture,” Simpson continued.

Good Meat, which describes itself on its website as “the first company in the world to sell cultivated meat,” said it was “disappointed” that DeSantis “signed into law the criminalization of cultivated meat in” the Sunshine State.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Israel-Hamas war demonstrations at the University of Mississippi turned ugly this week when one counter-protester appeared to make monkey noises and gestures at a Black student in a raucous gathering that was endorsed by a far-right congressman from Georgia.

“Ole Miss taking care of business,” Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Collins wrote Friday on the social platform X with a with a link to the video showing the racist jeers.

The Associated Press left voicemail messages for Collins on Friday at his offices in Georgia and Washington and sent an email to his spokesperson, asking for an explanation of what Collins meant. There was no immediate response.

The taunting brought sharp criticism on and off campus.

“Students were calling for an end to genocide. They were met with racism,” James M. Thomas, a sociology professor at the University of Mississippi, wrote Friday on X.

The Rev. Cornell William Brooks, a former president and CEO of the NAACP and professor at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, wrote on X that a white man mocking a Black woman as a monkey “isn’t about ‘Stand With Israel’ or ‘Free Palestine.’ This is protest as performative racism.”

The disgraced former New York congressman released his first five videos to a Cameo account for his character 'Kitara Ravache' after users paid between $275 and $350 for the personalized messages.

Santos announced on Monday he was bringing Kitara 'out of the closet' after 18 years for a 'limited time.'

The 35-year-old politician previously denied dressing in drag when images were first uncovered, but later admitted it was him in the pictures. Now, he is fully embracing the character to help bring in more income after he was booted from Congress.

'It's your favorite, Kitara. After 18 years in the closet, George Santos pulled me back out — whatever,' Santos said on one of the clips shared on his Cameo.
