I was talking with my friend about Flamengo's victory over Liverpool in the 1981 Club World Cup final and how this is a source of immense pride for the fans. They made songs about it and still boast about beating Liverpool 3-0. However, he was incredulous when he found out that Liverpool used their reserve team for the match. This brought up an old question for me about how important the Club World Cup is for Europeans. Is it true that you value the Champions League more than the Club World Cup? Here in Brazil, winning the Club World Cup is almost like winning a World Cup; it has nearly the same significance in the football scene.
