Something we can surmise is Kanto is a desolate shithole unable to support a diverse assortment of pokemon species, only able to support less than 150 species. Even among the original 150, many are not native or extant in the region, such as fossils and safari zone exclusive Pokemon, dwindling the viable species further. Every region thereafter support many, many more. In this thought, we can also see pokemon from (or merely present) in the Kanto region are some of the hardiest and most successful pokemon in their world, with most being found in many other regions (other than Unova). Outside of the obvious and meta answer Kanto was first, what in universe reason makes Kanto such a difficult environment for pokemon to survive?

Reminder that Sinnoh only has 151 Pokemon natively. Super Underground is the epitome of Pokemon being driven out. Maybe the somewhat colder climate in Platinum brought out the Platinum Pokemon (all 59 of them).
