We’ve had a thousand yen threads over the years. They are trapped and they will keep intervening at key levels until they run out of funds. Even if they dump their US treasuries and nuke the world economy to save their own ass it’d just give them a little more time before the inevitable occurs. The yen is in almost the exact same predicament as Luna/UST was in, with no way out and carry trades putting constant pressure on the currency because the market can see that they are trapped. The only difference is that BoJ have a few hundred billion dollars to burn in order to delay the inevitable and hope for a miracle (which won’t come).
