The whole situation was a little confusing to me, I understood the Shrine Maiden was concerned with my safety and it did seem weird to me that a young girl lived all by herself, but wasn't it a little wrong for an older man and young girl to be living in one household by themselves? I mean, sure there were separate buildings we were sleeping in, I just wonder if I haven't been roped into some strange marriage agreement or perhaps was being readied as a ritualistic sacrifice? Ah, I must be thinking strangely after such a long day, maybe some sleep would clear this all up. So, I bowed, was about to give my name, but before I could the Tengu's tongue clicked. 「Shoot. I should've arrived earlier. Hey can you make yourself scarce real quick? 」She asked me, but I struggled to understand. 「Ah, don't tell me you can't speak Japanese? Just my luck, here! 」Aya complained before taking out a cloak from her bag and wrapping me in it. 「There, hunch your back make it seem like the pack is part of your body, cover your face, lean on that stick like you need it, and whatever you, don't say a peep okay? You peep and you're dead.」 The Tengu said, pushing and pulling my body into a disguise and making gestures while she did so.Without much time to question what she was doing I heard the sound of stones shifting as various people seemed to land, or appear, atop the stones. I welcome a serious challenge you know?」The goat-like girl said.「Hmm, it might be hard for a mobster from New Hell to understand, but Gensokyo's balance rests on that girl's shoulders you know? It's certainly worth the gossip as to why she's taking her job more seriously. 」The mature(Raccoon?) woman commented.The collection of Youkai seemed to launch into a nonsense discussion, throwing around some terms like 'economy', 'seasons', 'weather', and more sensitive feminine topics which I wish I hadn't picked up on, all centered on Reimu...「Heyyy, I think I might know what's up with her. She got herself a man not too long ago. 」Suika commented. The other Youkai stopped at this.The comments then rained in,「No way in either Hell!」,「That girl? Nobody in the village is rich enough you drunk oni!」,「Are one of you pulling a prank on her? I thought we agreed those sorts of incidents were off-limits!」. Maybe I could sneak out in this mess.「Who're you?」A quiet voice asked me, I turned to see a pair of green eyes that belonged to a young girl with equally green hair. When did she show up?

Koishi, the green-haired one, lingered around me for a bit and at one point I think she was floating above me, but after one last look into my eyes she also disappeared from the clearing. 「Hahhh, that was a close one.」Aya sighed, rubbing her neck.「Some of them probably picked up on it, but they don't know you're Reimu's new squeeze, so count yourself lucky.」I raised my eyebrows at the mention of Reimu's name.「The frilly arm band's a dead giveaway you know? Reimu closed her eyes and exhaled through her nose. I wasn't quite sure why, but I felt my body brace as if I was about to trip and fall. But nothing like that happened, instead, her eyes fluttered open and she smiled. 「Oh, I see. It wasn't your fault then, that meddlesome crow just lead you a little astray hmm? Well, that makes sense. After all, you wouldn't break the promise you made to me so easily right?」「Hai...」I'm not entirely sure, but seems I was forgiven? Somehow I don't feel entirely relieved. 「Right! So no reason to dwell on silly little things like that.」 She clapped. 「I've been preparing something good for dinner tonight, so you can look forward to it! Oh but, make sure you take off your clothes. We'll have to burn them since once that fowl Youkai scent gets into something, you can't get it out you know? You decided a visit to the Hakurei girl would be in order, scary as it was also to think what she'd do to you once she learned what you had been up to. So, you got dressed, got your cane, put on your straw hat and packed some snacks for the long and dangerous trek to the shrine, and were on your way as soon as you could.It took several hours of hiking along a path that just kept getting worse as you progressed through the familiar rice paddies outside of town and into the forest of magic. You couldn't help but feel as though being watched. Perhaps it was just natural, given there was not a soul in sight, and the thick canopy of trees made it hard to track the sun and time. There were also a lot of stories about youkai and strange witches dwelling in this place, after all.This would have made sense, yes, but you had felt that presence as soon as you had set foot outside of your home. A lone girl in red and white was sweeping the stone path leading up to it, and you knew it had to be her. It was also about this point you realized you had been so tired and distraught over what had happened since last night that you hadn't really thought of what you would tell her. "Hello, miss Hakurei, I may or may not have summoned a millenary youkai and who knows what else from reading forbidden books at my local library. Help me, please, pretty, please?" If some youkai did not kill you now, perhaps she would for your foolishness, but it wasn't like you had much of a choice now. Here went nothing.As you slowly approached, the sound of your sandals against the stone alerted the girl to your presence, who now seemed to have sparks in her eyes."A visitor! Welcome!", she greeted you."Good day, I-""Donation box's right over there! I'll show you the way!", she continued, walking away."What? Wa-wait!", you tried to stop her, but she did not.Was she just not listening? You realised you wouldn't get to talk unless you followed her, so you began walking after her.Eventually, you reached the old, dusty box, whose only contents seemed now to be a a spider and her web. If you were looking for charms, we sell those, too.""No, I need something else.""You came for our purification service?""No, I didn't come to pay for anything. Then her annoyance from before gave way into some sort of resignation as she sighed, put her broom aside and let her head droop down."What book?""Here", you took it out of your pack and passed it to her.She took it and began eyeing its pages. After a while, she asked,"How much of this did you read?""All of it..."You couldn't help but look away after saying this, but you could still catch her lifting her face from the book to glare at you, then returning to it.As she read, she asked, sounding displeased,"Have you noticed anything odd since?"But just as you were going to try to explain, someone interrupted,"My, Reimu, have we got a new visitor?"An unknown voice. It forced you to return your gaze at the girl."Ah! How many times have I got to tell you not to show up like that?", the girl said, startled.And right beside her..."Awww, you're no fun!""Hard to be when there might be a new incident brewing, courtesy of my 'new visitor' over here."there was..."Yukari. You wouldn't know anything about this, would you?", the girl continued."Well, who knows?"The youkai's purple eyes, now staring at you from one of her gaps.
