Rolex external finishing is extremely basic, and pretty much entirely done by machine. That's why even experts have trouble separating replicas from the real thing.

This is something that would never happen with something like a GS, because the difference between zaratsu and "regular" case polish is extremely obvious irl.

it functions without having to be connected to any jew, except the one that services it, I suppose
also, your phone or basically any other electronic is hot dogshit at keeping time if you disconnect it from the internet
it's going to drift way worse than even the cheapest casio
>>
>>18109695
Yes, this is why I want a high accuracy quartz. I dont like the feeling of being constantly monitored and tracked by a phone etc.
>>
>>18109692
It may seem confusing, but accuracy matters less the richer you get.

If you're a fry cook, seconds matter. A few seconds are the difference between burning fries and keeping your job.
If your boss tells you to be at work at 7:00 am sharp, you better not be a second late, but no one's there to tell the boss that he's late when he rolls in at 7:02.
In the professional world, a meeting can be scheduled to start at 10:00 am, but it doesn't actually start until the director decides to call in.
Beyond that, business is done on the golf course, which is a famously un-timed sport.

tl;dr: when you're rich enough to afford high-end timepieces, the true accuracy of any given watch correlates directly to how much power you have.
>>
>>18109697
You are missing the point MF
Its not about needing an accurate watch, it is about demanding a watch to be accurate
>>
>>18109692
Accuracy is one factor of buying an expensive watch, but not the sole one and probably not even the most popular. If it meant anything, I'm sure there'd be a flippening of watch brands deemed as luxury

The movments have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
The vintage Accutrons from the 60s use a tuning fork to regulate their frequency and move the geartrain with a very small ratchet wheel and pawl system.
The modern Accutron uses a brand new electrostatic movement.

>>
>>18109769
Also, vintage Accutrons come in a lot of different models, even with some complications (picrel has a GMT). The Spaceview with visible circuit are some of the mosty sought-after one along with the Astronaut GMT. The former because you can see the circuit which is nice but also for the fun fact that they were originally intended as window display pieces only but the demand was so large that Bulova ended up making them recular models in their collection. The latter for its flight cred and rarity.
Also, do note that vintage Accutrons are vintage-sized whereas the modern electrostatic is pretty large as the technology is in its first and second generations in movements. Bulova is likely working on miniaturizing it.

Unless you want one of the hype models (Daytona or GMT-Master II) or the unpopular models that are made in limited quantities (DeepSea Sea-Dweller) then getting a Rolex is not the challenge that it used to be.

If you're looking for an OP, Exp1, or DJ you can even find ADs that carry them in stock. If they don't have what you want in stock, pretty much anything can be sourced in a few weeks.

The only people left whining about wait lists are autists who think an autoresponse email they got from an AD "put them on the list" for a Daytona in 2020.

Pretty fascinating desu. Sounds like both vintage and modern might be worth picking up for me at some point.
I'm very interested in all different kinds of movements, these both seem unique in their own ways. Part of the reason I want a spring drive too, something kinda different from your typical mechanical or quartz movements. Yeah watches are cool as fashion accessories but most of the appeal to me comes from having some sort of little tiny machine on my wrist, and the various ways that manufacturers have achieved that over the years is interesting to me.
Not a wristlet so I should be able to handle the size of the newer one.
Probably.
A 2020 is an aspirational watch for me for sure, but I might be able to swing a used vintage one at some point.

>>
>>18109819
https://electric-watches.co.uk/
There's a bunch of odd pre-quartz electric watches out there but be warned that if something goes wrong with them, repair will not be easy and it will only get worse as time goes on and the supplies of spare parts run thinner and thinner.
>>
>>18109806
Why would anyone want an inaccurate watch?
>>
>>18109834
Neat.jpg

I don't necessarily need every possible type of movement but one or two notable ones from a genre might be fun.

Besides servicing are there any other downsides to many of these? obviously they're battery powered, I'd have to assume battery life is worse than quartz since it's using inductive coils.

I imagine accuracy might not be great either but I'm not overly concerned with perfect accuracy as long as it's not way way way off. Again I'm more a fan of the engineering in miniature and mechanisms than anything else.

I have to admit, it took me a while to realise that there was also glass in the space between lugs and not only on the left and right sides. It feels more like a gimmick though but still it's pretty neat.
>>18109830
I've grown to distaste the presence of date windows on watches, so whenever I see them, especially when poorly implemented, it kind, rustles my jimmies. I find the annual calendar version is extremely guilty of this. It looks like it's tacked on.

I have a vintage Accutron and an electric Timex.
The Accutron eats through batteries in 6-ish months and you need an isolating ring around the battery or else it will short the movement. The movements were designed for a type of battery that's not really produced anymore. It's not a big issue since you can just wrap some adhesive tape to the side of the battery, but still, if you take it to watchmakers who don't know about it, they might conclude it doesn't work at all when really they just shorted it. Otherwise, they are pretty sound movements and were very accurate for the time. The smooth seconds sweep is nice too. Main issue can be waterproofing due to the caseback "crown" not always being completely safe.
The Timex also eats through batteries faster than your typical quartz. The way it works is, it sends magnetic impulses to regulate a balance wheel and also powers the geartrain. It has the same sort of geartrain you'd find in a regular mechanical watch except for the mainspring. That means you get a battery that drains quickly AND the inaccuracy of a cheaper mechanical watch. but hey, they were real cheap at the time. And now they're still have as wacky relics of a weirdly experimental age in watchmaking.

Yes. 42mm with the 2500-D variant. (the stable one that doesn't just randomly stop working)

It's a great watch. It's listed at 42mm but it wears like a 40mm because of the asymmetrical case. It's 14mm thick but wears thinner because of the thin midcase and conical caseback.

The new ones are just terrible. They are absolutely huge and sit tall on the wrist to make things worse. The glossy dial and ceramic bezel make it feel more like a piece of jewelry, whereas the old version felt like a performance dive watch.
On one hand, it's sad to see what's happened to the model, but on the other hand, I got mine, so I really don't care that much about the new ones either.

What's the consensus on the Kith and TAG Heuer Formula 1 collaboration?
It seems like a bit of a flop. The Moonswatch had people screeching for months.

Maybe it's because it's far more limited than the Moonswatch or because it's far more expensive. Maybe people just don't have that much nostalgia for the old Formula 1 from the 80s.

Is that the one with the fusée-and-chain?
>>
>>18109983
>>18109985
Exactly this.

The Moonswatch is/was selling like crazy because they are priced in that sweet spot that many working people can afford at the end of the month after all the bills are paid, without thinking too hard about it. You bring that over 1000 dollars and besides the 4 digit price tag psychologically influencing people, it starts to become a bit too expensive to impulse buy.

Within 3-4 seconds per day is fine; it's always better to be slightly fast than slightly slow.

If it's been well adjusted, you can always speed it up or slow it down by leaving it on its side or on its back overnight.
>Slightly slow: leave it on its back. Slightly fast: leave it on its side.
>>
>>18110019
I read that the Daniel Wellington Sheffield Classic is rated at 15 seconds per month, so half a second per day. I think I will purchase that watch.

>>18109998
as long as it's between +1 sec/day and +3 hour/day, it's fine. Accuracy isn't that important.

Orient Bambino is a mechanical watch so you'd get the craftmanship, heritage and soul that goes to a mechanical watch. Today, for me, it is this vintage automatic Timex.
I'm gonna daily this thing for a while and see how it does on accuracy. IIRC it wasn't noticeably off over a month but we'll see.

Neat because it doesn't have any jewels in the movement, I think it's just metal on metal or at absolute best just metal on oil impregnated brass bushings but I don't think it's even that fancy.

You can hear it ticking without even holding it up to your ear but like I said IIRC it keeps good time.

I actually have two of these little guys, identical, on different straps. I got them for free in a bag of watches I was given. Mostly crappy old quartz and women's watches but I was pleased to see an actual brand I've heard of.

>>18110090
I have an Amphibia.
It keeps decent time but I think they're prone to magnetism because I had mine go way inaccurate for a while but I demagnetized it and it seemed to clear up.

I would personally skip the Komandirskie because it's not THAT much cheaper and it isn't automatic. Just doesn't appeal to me as much as the Amphibia.

I think it's OK to have one or two in your collection because they are neat. Tons of dials and cases to choose from.

Great baby's first mechanical.
>>
>>18109771
Not my taste but you definitely have a specific taste, most of your watches have the same proportions with a smaller circle inside the dial.
I only like the Ginza dial Seiko and the Junghans (tho i would have chosen a smaller size for thay wrist size).
Junghans are all dial, it wears bigger than the adverized size.

How do you figure? Atomic watches? Technicality argument that a watch might be more accurate than a phone's internal hardware clock?
Phones otherwise use NTP to get time from a master source, they don't need to be hardware accurate to read nearly perfect time, all the time, every time.

You're the tard, you're trying to argue something that doesn't fucking matter. Phones are always going to be more accurate than any watch. Nobody sits with their phone off in a cabinet for months. It doesn't matter that the RTC is technically shittier. If a phone isn't connected to a network it's not really being used as a phone. I have never heard anyone say "damn my phones clock is so inaccurate" who cares if a watch is better than some shitty phone hardware clock, it doesn't need to be that good because there's a better way to stay accurate.

I love the finishing and the dials on a lot of grand seiko models but there's always something about the case shape that throws me off a little, what is it? Anyone knows what I'm talking about?

Suspicious to me

So glad I dont have an expensive watch, would drive me nuts

Received a washing machine today and there was no protective skin on the display. Full of scratches. I am returning this shit no matter the effort. I wont accept it. Should have been a lot more thorough when accepting the delivery. Those delivery untermenschen always fuck shit up
>>
>>18110910
Most watches use sapphire which is pretty hard to scratch, the case is the only thing that would get scuffed up. These arent noticable unless you look for them. I wanted the sapphire version for the durability but it just looked so much worse ill just get over the scratches and use poly watch occasionally.
>>
>>18110913
Saphire looks worse because its like a bulb?
>>
The swirls and chips in my cars paintwork also drove me insane. Feel relieved having sold it. They should dedicate more scientific research to preventing scratches

It doesnt have the same roundness of the hesalite, instead its more of a hard step up and then a slightly curved face. When you look at it straight on its got a milky white ring around the edge which i just didnt like. I was resigned to dealing with some scratches, i was just hoping to get through the first week without them but oh well.

>>18110919
ceramic coating helps with preventing scratches fairly well. You can also get your car wrapped and then coated and if/when scratches do happen in places all you need to do is replace that section of wrap.

Had a technical interview today with the same guy following last weeks disaster the hiring mgr wanted to be sure. I totally rekt him today. Asked him some basics and he didnt know shit. Man I feel angry how people are just frauding alll the time

what kind of role was this for? I've had interviews where i used to know the information they wanted i just havent been doing that specific stuff in long enough it's no longer something i particularly remember but would pick it back up quickly.
>>
After few minutes I said ok I think we are done here, I have gathered all information I needed. Bye.

Then I told that stupid noobie recruiter that people who claim to know everything usually dont know jack shit. Somebody who really knows his shit is usually humble and aware of the reality of not knowing everything, not even close, offensive that people would believe it to be possible even
>>

>I've had interviews where i used to know the information they wanted i just havent been doing that specific stuff in long enough it's no longer something i particularly remember but would pick it back up quickly.

That would be normal and understandable

Is that Spotemgottem?

That nigga has been on my mind. No cap, I been thinking about that time when I barebacked him raw in a Boca Raton Air BnB. That shit had to be the tightest, blackest, wettest boy pussy I've ever laid pipe into. I swear to God, the most heavenly high is gargling that wonderboy's nuts while going fist deep into his shitter. I had Spotemgottem screaming in the sheets with head too ridiculous to ignore. That nigga frotted my cock until he busted on my mouth, I had to return the favor. That nigga Spotemgottem and I been fucking non-stop ever since, but keep that shit on the DL. He does that shit for free. If you're gonna ask me how to "long" Spotemgottem, I'll be deadass. All you gotta do is ask, be straight up, and get physical real quick. Touch his nuts, get on ya knees, talk your shit. He doesn't play around with no pansy-ass niggas either. He likes his men manly, and his dick thick. Dark skin, 6'5 is the minimum and I ain't talking about height boy.

That nigga Spotemgottem stole my heart and drank my seed
