Shatterhand for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
>>
It's one of those rental fodder games that's just of, like, there and you don't remember much about it.
>>

tried it out but it's pretty tricky. great game though, doesn't seem like an nes game at all.
>>
Right game, wrong time
>>
This was known as Tokkyuu Shirei: Solbrain in Japan and the cover art had some robot thing on it instead of the Stallone ripoff of the US cover. By Natsume.
>>
Has one of the coolest intros of any NES game. Maybe one of the best in vidya.

Def. inspired by Batman. It's a very nice game though and very polished.

the helper robot system is pretty memorable, because it's a lot of fun to play around with for a little while and quite annoying to try to seriously use in the long run (so either way, memorable)

So far all of you can die.
You are not talking about this game correctly.
Fuck you.

Lead by example.

The most memorable thing for me about this game was that the version of FCE Ultra I was using almost 20 years ago had issues with it.
>>
Good quality NES title. Definitely from a license that didn't translate to Western markets. Good music, not too challenging outside of the final stage. About as deep as you could hope for an 8bit action title.

>>10910449
The Japanese version has a completely different stage for Area C. Instead of a mutant laden submarine, you get an amusement park. Story also seems more involved, but I don't read moonrune, so I could tell you.

>shatter hand
>it doesn't shatter your hands
i feel so scammed.....
>>
DID YOU KNOW?!

When you use fire balls with the power suit upgrade, the closer you are to the enemy, the more damage you deal.

The GOD HAND for boomers

>Shatterhand
God i was always so fucking confused by the robot power up as a kid, some were straight up garbage and the other ones were amazing.

Great NES game, hard as balls
>>
>>10910423
Dope game.
>>
>>10910423
Incredible game, one of my favorite nes titles
>>10910778
Setting up the suit correctly is a must for some of the bosses too.
>>
This game is really good at getting people on /vr/ to say extremely positive things about it. In other respects it is not as good.
>>
>>10910423
Surprisingly great game.

I got this bootleg cart at a flea market recently.
Robocop 1 and 2 are to be as expected, Robocop 4 is 3 for some reason. Robocop 3 however is Solbrain/Jap Shatterhand. Pretty neat since i love the us version. I noticed there seemed not to be any level select after the first stage, unless this version is a hack that makes it a linear stage progression.
>>
>>10911841
Solbrain does have the same stage selection.
>>
>>10911931
Does it come right after the first level? This version immediately sends you into the industrial plant level.
>>
>>10911946
Yeah it's after the first stage just like Shatterhand.

Interesting, I'll have to check if your version's been dumped
>>
>>10911972
Yea, lemme know. Unless i somehow skipped right into a stage from the menu, but i doubt i did because i recalled there being a changed stage and i wanted to see if it was visible from the level select.

Elaborate, you vile fiend.

Sticking out that gyat for the rizzler. At a certain point a lot of the 3rd party developers mastered using the hardware and just made amazing music and graphics.

I made a thread about this once but it doesn't seem to be in archives. Here is my fresh Shatterhand review:

It has good (though somewhat forgettable) graphics and music. The basic action is pretty good. Helper robots and the weird robot selection system are a super cool novelty.

The player character feels heavy and stiff. He fights things that move fast or shoot projectiles, but he only has a tiny attack that he can't even use while walking. He has a lot of Mario-style inertia and so cannot instantly redirect himself to dodge. But he lacks Mario's countermeasures (stomping, bumping enemies off blocks from below, thrown shells, fireballs). He's clumsy and isn't a lot of fun to use.

Helper robots are a mess. Ricobot and Yoyobot are FAR superior to Shatterhand himself. The temporary suit you get for doubling your robot is even better. These elements strongly encourage the player to treat the whole game as a tedious escort mission in which you carefully shepherd your delicate, foolish, hard-to-control helper robot to various places so that it can do all the work for you. The robots are too good to ignore and too clumsy to be very much fun, once you're over the cool novelty of them. Bosses are often either too easy or too hard, depending on what level of power you're at when you reach one: Shatterhand alone, Shatterhand with robot, Shatterhand in suit. The suit turns potentially interesting fights into mindless (and usually pretty easy) damage races. And you control what robots you get and when the suit comes, so interesting surprises won't have room to arise.

It's a decent game that's fun to mess around with casually, but I think it's not very fun to actually finish. It always gets special mention in this forum for its alleged excellence and I still don't really see why. What's so great about switching back and forth between "Mario mixed with Contra guy but not nearly as capable as either" and an awkward escort quest?

It's fun to play and punch shit.
>>
>>10913686
The robots are a bonus, not the main treat. Get good and you won't need to slowly chip away at enemies with them in a boring way and they can take a few hits before dying. And even if they die, so what, use your fists, and you'll get another one soon enough.

Try doing a fist only, final destination, playthrough
>>
more like shitterhand, amirite?
>>

I learned real quick to stop caring about the bots themselves and just focused on making sure I doubled the letters to get the suit at the right time, that said I mostly preferred swordbot and grenadebot
